Is the death penalty effective
The death penalty also known as the capital punishment is a government sanctioned practice in which a person is put to death by the state as a punishment for a crime. The sentence that someone receives is the death sentence, whereas the act of carrying out the sentence is known as an execution. Even though death penalty has been developed in many countries, It isn’t really effective to reduce crime.
First, we need to have a idea of which crimes have as punishment the death penalty, there's a number of 41 capital offenses which are punishable by death, including espionage, treason, and aircraft hijacking. However, they mostly consist of various forms of murder such as murder committed during a drug-related drive-by shooting, murder during a kidnapping, murder for hire, and genocide. With all these crimes resulting in the death penalty, we would suppose that the crime index will decrease but no.
Based on an article written by McCann Erickson Berlin there are 31 countries that have death penalty in america, but it isn't really effective to reduce the crime there, in a recent study made by the Professor Michael Radelet and Traci Lacock of the University of Colorado found that 88% of the nation’s leading criminologists do not believe the death penalty is an effective deterrent to crime. The conclusion of this studies states that the 78% of the criminologist of those surveyed, said that in a state that supports death penalty doesn't necessarily have a lower murder rate. Now, if we analyze this, we can find out that if criminologists with experience in the area, says that death penalty isn't effective, maybe we have to start considering that it really isn’t.
The death penalty is a waste of budget and it doesn't really serve its purpose for society. The US Police exposed the idea of removing this punishment, they say that many of the states that have such punishment, have a higher average murder rates than other states, proving that the death penalty doesn't really affect the murder rate.
In conclusion with all this prove i’ve already gave you, i want to make clear the idea that we don't have to see death penalty as a first action to punish a crime because it won't change anything and it will be worst based in studies made by great criminologist and U.S police securing that the death penalty isn't effective, in my opinion this people are right and the death penalty have to be remove from punishment.
