ahhhhhhhh i wanna write but feel like i don't know how to anymore. but im determined.... so if anyone wants to plot i'm down hehe
For her entire life, she could never once recall a single time where Bear and Noah hadn't been there. They had been inseparable since they were tiny, and now that one of them was gone, it truly felt as though there was a fracture that could never be fixed. No matter how close she and Bear were, no matter how much they still held onto that friendship, their trio was now a duo and it was painful. There was a moment where she felt as though his gaze was on her, and she turned to look at him with a soft smile. There was no denying the hidden feelings deep within her that had been there for many years. She would go as far as saying since she was a pre-teen, but she had never vocalised them. There was no way she would ruin their friendship, nor did she want to ever make Noah feel like a third wheel.
"I think..." She paused, glancing over at the lake with a smile. "We've earned a break. The rest of the stuff can wait."
It was music to his ears. Bear had a sneaking suspicion that the longer they spent setting up camp and dwelling on how Noah had single-handedly saved their asses when it came to camping, the easier it'd be to get caught in an endless loop of grief.
His brows lifted with his smile as he tugged his shirt over his head without a second thought. He wasn't wearing his swim trunks, and he didn't particularly feel like digging them out, either. "Well, c'mon. What are we waiting for?"
He tossed the shirt aside before following it with his pants. Standing there in nothing but his boxers, he somehow felt both completely comfortable and oddly self-conscious all at once. Hell, just a few summers ago he'd gone skinny-dipping in this very lake, and Noah had stolen his clothes. It'd been a full moon in more ways than one that night. Compared to that? This wasn't so bad.
Grinning, Bear started walking backward toward the lake, waving both hands for her to follow.

She offered a small smile to her friend. Every year, they could have watched Noah doing this, could have learned, but they each had their own skills that they brought to the table on these trips. There had never been any reason to think that they would have to do this without him, but life had a funny way of catching people off guard. Her smile became slightly sad as she thought of Noah and his vital part of their trio, but she quickly focused back on what Bear said.
"You're right." she replied, chuckling. "Come on then." Brushing her hair behind her ears so that it was out of her face, she moved to help him work, trying her best to use logical thoughts instead of assuming where the pieces went. By the time it was (somewhat) erected, she tilted her head as her gaze examined the tent. "Oh he so would. Wherever he is, he's absolutely laughing his ass off at us for this. But I'd say we get at least a solid B- for our attempt."
Bear was no stranger to loss. When his beloved childhood dog passed, Noah and Taryn were there to lift him up. When his own father passed, they stood by his side as Bear sorted out all the complicated feelings and fallout that went with it. Now, Noah was gone and he wasn't sure how to be enough for Taryn. She was grieving just the same as him. It was both beautiful and tragic to know exactly how the other must feel.
Bear glanced at her and found himself at a loss of words. The sun cascaded a glow behind her like a halo and she was about the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. And somehow, that made him feel awful. This trip was about Noah, and even when he was so deep in thought of him, it somehow came back to how beautiful Taryn is. Now, that would definitely make Noah laugh. Bear cleared his throat. "B- for sure," he agreed with a quick smile. "Should we keep unloading or just skip right to the good stuff?" The good stuff being the nearby lake practically calling his name. At least it could distract him from his battling thoughts.

It was 3 am.Β Fucking 3 am, and someone was at his door. The man sat there for a moment, contemplating all the people it couldβve been outside of that door. Of course, he liked to jump to the conclusion that naturally someone was there to kill him. Rubbing a tired hand over his face, he got up and finally went over to the door as he tugged on a black t-shirt that was inside out. He opened the door slowly, peeking out, and then immediately sighed as he saw them standing there. Of course there was a part of him that always liked these visits, but he knew it couldnβt go on forever.Β βJesus, itβs 3 in the morning, yβknow? Scared me half to deathβ¦ What are you doing here?β

This was the second wedding out of six they were obligated to attend. At least this one was in Napa Valley - a promising location. A gold dress hung on her shoulders, the back unzipped as she finished up in the bathroom. She walked back into the hotel room and looked at her friend as they got ready.Β βAnd so many destination weddingsβ¦ I mean, itβs always beautiful, but Jesus Iβm tired of flying everywhere for these things.βΒ Chey turned around and quickly added,Β βZip me up?β

He huffed as he wiped the grease from his stained hands, smearing it further across his skin in the process. Closing the hood of the car with a little more force than necessary, he finally looked up to meet her gaze as she stood there watching him.
βI swear, I think you do somethinβ to this thing just to piss me off.β
The amount of times she had called him over to fix this car was honestly ridiculous. At this point, he was convinced she either had the worst luck in the world or was somehow breaking it on purpose just to have an excuse to bother him. And yet, somehow, he never actually hesitated to show up. No matter how much he complained, no matter how many times he told her she needed a new car, he was always there. βAnyway,β he said, tossing the rag onto the hood before crossing his arms, βitβs fixed. Again.β He gave her a pointed look, trying and failing to hide the small hint of amusement on his face. βPlease, for my own sanity, try not to break it this time. Or, better yet, maybe consider gettinβ yourself a new one before this thing finally kills me.β

There were many benefits of not living too far from a bar - like getting to drink as much as he wanted without the worry of transportation. He and his coworkers spent the evening downing one too many shots to ring in the weekend. It had been a while since he had gotten this drunk, though he wasnβt particularly unfamiliar to it. Leon wasnβt an alcoholic by any means, but he often found it difficult to turn down a drink when offered. So, he was practically pro at the wholeΒ drunk walk homeΒ thing.Β
Stumbling down the hall of his apartment complex, he wrangled with his keys in his pockets and flipped through the random ones on the ring until he found the right one. His vision was slightly blurred and his head felt like it was in a washing machine. He blinked hard and hoped the feeling would subside if he focused hard enough. Attempting to unlock his door, it seemed like no matter what he did, the key wasnβt going in all the way. He jiggled the doorknob and let out a quiet groan of frustration.Β βCβmon,βΒ he mumbled and turned the key around to try a different angle. No luck. Just as he went to jiggle the knob more, the door suddenly swung open. Leon stepped back and took a look to see his neighbor. His eyes squinted and he gave a confused look.Β βWhy are you in my apartment?βΒ Except Leon was missing one little detail in his drunken stupor - this wasnβt his apartment.

It always started with a two worded text message from Fecility at a god awful hour: Hey, Stranger. As soon as she made it to a certain area code, she seemed to always message her. City came and went with the wind, perpetually traveling or taking on some new grand adventure. It was nice to know there was something familiar in this specific town. It was nice to know she would always be there.Β
She sat at the bar and sipped on her cosmo at a glacial pace. The blonde beamed when she saw her finally enter through the door. It was hard knowing just where they stood - did she enjoy their time together as much as City did? Or was she sick and tired of Cityβs restlessness? She showed - City supposed that was a good start. βHey, stranger,β she greeted, just like that first text message earlier that night. βGuess whoβs back in town for a few weeks?β
It felt strange to be out there again just the two of them. She wasn't sure she would go so far as to say it felt wrong, but the idea of it no longer being three of them just sat like an unfamiliar weight on her chest. But being there in his honour felt like the right thing to be doing. She had assisted as best she could as Bear had worked on the tent, mainly gathering the wood in preparation for starting their fire once the sun began to set, but as the fabric and poles went tumbling to the ground, she couldn't help but laugh slightly.
"I don't know how he made it look so easy." Taryn replied, shaking her head as she glanced over at Bear. "Surely it's not rocket science... right?" An eyebrow raised when her gaze returned to the artist formerly known as tent that lay there at their feet. "Take two?"
She was right - he never once questioned that the tents to assemble could be difficult because their friend had put it together with such ease. Bear was tempted to scour the area for a good enough phone signal to watch a tutorial video on youtube, but that felt even more pathetic than the heap that laid in front of him. Though he often worked with his hands, he didnβt realize florist skills would not translate to being a camping expert.
Β βListen, if he could do it, we can,β he attempted to joke. Noah, their late friend, often lacked certain brain cells for other mundane tasks and was often the butt of Bearβs jokes back in the day. But out here? He was a godsend.Β
Determined, and a little embarrassed, Bear worked while mumbling curse words under his breath until he finally managed to erect the tent. Would it last all night? Time would only tell, but it was standing. βThere.β It was then he realized the sun was nearly gone and the singing bugs got louder as they awoke for their nightly tune. How long did that take him? Bear could only laugh and knew Noah was laughing too somewhere. βHeβd get a kick out of this.βΒ

This little vacay couldn't have come at a better time. Vigo, the current fiancΓ© and director of the off broadway show just cancelled before the first dress rehearsal pulled it's first test curtain, was off sulking and getting obliterated and Nev, when City pulled in a cosmic clutch with two tickets to another timezone there was no hesitation. Bags packed by daylight. So now, day whatever of heaven, the two stood at the open bar, noticing watchful eyes and City's clear worry as she racked through a faux scenario in her head, leaning back against bar on her elbow and pointing to the partygoers, "Oh, I already told that bald man I danced with that came up to my tits that we were hired by the groom to entertain the groomsmen afterwards." Letting that sit for a second too long before laughing. Having already taken advantage of the free champagne, sat her glass down and casually turned to the blonde fully, "Honey. Baby, darling, sugar puss. Don't think about it too much. Whatever first comes to mind, voila, then that's it. . . was it a car? A near drowning where she fell off a pier and you had to jump in the freezing temps after her? Oh, you stepped in when someone had a knife and was going stab her? I like that one actually."
Downing what had to be her third or fourth glass of champagne, City nodded enthusiastically at Nev's suggestions. Truth be told, Felicity wasn't all that nervous about getting caught. She had an undeniable, almost mysterious way of getting what she wanted. And if she wanted to avoid getting arrested tonight for crashing a wedding, then they simply wouldn't. She'd already made up her mind.
"I know, I know. I just live for the details, y'know? Why be boring when you can tell an extravagant lie?" City snapped her fingers and pointed at her friend. "I'm definitely going with the knife story. Maybe I'll say I got stabbed defending her. Where's the scar? Oh, sorry, that's in an area too risquΓ© to reveal in public."
Grabbing an hors d'oeuvre that looked far too fancy for her to identify, she popped it confidently into her mouth and took in the view of the reception. Everyone seemed just drunk enough not to question how the girls had gotten there in the first place. But it was a beautiful evening on the Amalfi Coast, and City, for one, was ready to dance.
Just then, I Touch Myself by Divinyls came over the speakers. She pressed a hand dramatically to her chest and feigned shock. "I can't believe they'd play this song at such a fancy reception..." Of course, it had absolutely nothing to do with City harassing the DJ for five straight minutes until he agreed to add it to the lineup. The moment the first verse hit, she was already moving. She handed her empty champagne flute to the nearest waiter before motioning for Nevada to join her on the dance floor.

One night stand. Itβs been a while since she had one of those, but she didnβt regret it in the slightest. No exchanging of numbers, not a lot of exchanging of words to be frank. It was perfect.Β
Yet, the universe had a funny way of often fucking over Chey Johnson. Her one night stand was now standing in front of her as she realized they worked at the location they would be shooting at for the next week or so.
Chey cleared her throat awkwardly. βSo.. I guess we never talked about what we do for a living.β Again, they didnβt talk much at all.

The bugs hummed their songs among the towering trees, a reminder that summer was still here whether they were ready for it or not. Their annual camping trip was smaller than ever. More somber, too. Their trio had become a duo, leaving a hole in what remained of the tradition. Despite his own grief, Bear was determined to make the trip enjoyable. Itβs what their friend would have wanted.
βItβs not the worst tentβ¦β he said uncertainly, staring at the pile of tent poles that were barely holding the thing upright. The tent collapsed a few moments later.
βOkay, so it is the worst tent.β He looked down at the tangled mess. βHow the hell do you put this thing together?β That had always been their friendβs area of expertise. Bearβs specialty was identifying which leaves would give you a rash and making dinner over the campfire.

An all-expenses-paid vacation in exchange for a few tourism photos? Felicity had practically been foaming at the mouth over the opportunity. Sheβd even managed to convince the travel company that her βspouseβ absolutely had to accompany her. Of course, her so-called spouse was actually her best friend. The less they knew, the better.
βHow long until you think weβre busted?β she asked under her breath in the buffet line. She was on her second lie of this job - the first had gotten them a free vacation, and the second had somehow landed them here at this complete strangerβs wedding for the hell of it.
Yes, they were wedding crashers. βIβm still putting together our backstory on how we got invited,β she said. βMight tell them the bride saved my life once.β The bigger and bolder the lie, the better. At least, thatβs what she always said.
