For those who have been keeping up with our dev logs, especially the first one, which is an insightful look into how we went about designing our uniforms, may have an idea by now how much we wanted to find a solid and creative design of our own. This philosophy of ours also brought us to the quest of finding a style for our character design fitting to the story we wanted to tell.
Set on this job was our sprite artist Sunna(NSFW 18+), and here are his many iterations of one of our major characters, Beatrice:
As you can see she went through three different designs before reaching our current one, a style that went on to dictate the creation of all other character sprites. Her hair and eye color were our guidelines for the character and so they are present in all versions, but her facial features, hair complexity and general art style went through very dramatic changes.
All of these changes and re-designs evolved together with us as we developed Last Stanza and from the feedback we got from our playtesters, we hope the final result is pleasing to you as much as it is for us.
Now, for a little extra bit, we have here a few expressions who were meant for Beatrice, her reactions to certain situations and how those reflected her personality.
