Resources for the Internet Classicist
I've been meaning to make a new pinned post for this blog with a few resources etc. for a million years and now I'm procrastinating so here it is.
Link to old pinned post (articles about racism and white supremacy in classics) here. I highly recommend checking it out.
Under the cut you will find a list of resources that I have found invaluable. Please put your own in the replies and reblogs!
some that i use regularly include:
allen and greenough’s latin grammar on dickinson college commentaries (which you have already mentioned). specifically the indexes, for instances of ‘is this a specific weird verb use or am i stupid’
digital prosopography of the roman republic for quickly searching genealogical/prosopographical/dates of magistracies etc info for the roman republic. it’s like broughton’s magistrates of the roman republic but better
attalus, specifically their index of names and chronologies of sources
topostext, which maps primary sources onto. a map. of the ancient world
indexes to the works of ronald syme. you do have to download this one and it is massive and hurts my computer to search. but it is very useful if you are rummaging through syme

The Witch by Salvator Rosa, dating to circa 1647-1650, has been purchased by the Uffizi Galleries for 450 thousand euros. The imposing oil on canvas that reaches 212x147cm went on display from January 11 until March 2025 in the Sala Bianca of Palazzo Pitti before being moved to the rooms dedicated to 17th century masters.

The Visconti–Sforza Tarot is used collectively to refer to incomplete sets of approximately 15 decks from the middle of the 15th century, now located in various museums, libraries, and private collections around the world. No complete deck has survived; rather, some collections have a few face cards, while some consist of a single card. They are the oldest surviving tarot cards and date back to a period when tarot was still called Trionfi ("triumphs"i.e. trump) cards, and used for everyday playing. They were commissioned by Filippo Maria Visconti, Duke of Milan, and by his successor and son-in-law Francesco Sforza. They had a significant impact on the visual composition, card numbering and interpretation of modern decks.
Amid the glitter of its art, Renaissance Italy was also scourged by wars, while the church’s displays of pomp and wealth provoked disdain.
The designs of tarot cards emulate that turmoil. The Visconti-Sforza deck reflects the prevalence of corruption within the church and the proximity of violent and sudden death. One of the images in the pack is a skeleton holding a scythe.
