Here I am in Thailand having the time of my life. Doing the mission of the Great Commssion and showing the value that women that work at bars here, it has been an adventure. We have lately been working with Lighthouse Ministry here in Chiang Mai and we go out every night sharing the love of God through friendships built with men and women in the red light district.
Lately God has been teaching me patience. I've learned to step back when I need to and speak up when God tells me to. I'm very grateful to have a guitar here with us, a lot of time getting away has involved that since I don't have an ipod. I've learned to serve even when I'm tired and how to comfort our team when in times of stress.
A few crazy situations that have taken place with the team have been: someone slipping in mud slitting their lip open (needed stitches), everyone on the team getting sick (throwing up for about 2 days), someone busting their chin open while water rafting, someone getting a badly infected bug bite, and home sickness. I was involved with home sickness and getting sick for about a day. I was still super thankful through it all.
I've been learning to be flexible with when and what we are doing next. Sometimes I might be a bit too relaxed about it and it may confuse people but I try not to communicate anything to the team unless I'm 100% positive that is what we are doing.
Although I'm not crazy homesick I do miss friends and family and literally think about you all at least once everyday.
Fun times. Some awesome adventurous things we've done while out here in Thailand is ride elephants, stay overnight in a village 3 hours away from the city life, went water rafting on bamboo rafts, hiked up a waterfall...it was made of limestone so it was super grippy, visited a beautiful waterfall, lit sky lanterns for the New Year, watched fireworks and lanterns in the sky on a rooftop for the New Year, had a dance party on a rooftop and work in the Red Light District of Chiang Mai! So far I must say I've had a blast and look forward to seeing more.
As far as ministry goes, we've seen fruit from Lighthouse, girls are wanting to leave the bars, our guys are sharing facts and truth about trafficking victims to the men at the bars, we've prayed for healing for a girl with an eye patch in the slums, we've shared love by playing and hugging lots of kids in the slums, and everywhere we go we look for ways to share the Gospel whether through actions or words. I truly do love being here, I'm also learning to be radical with my faith and loving out loud by stepping out of my comfort zone listening to what the Lord tells me to do!
Please keep our team in your prayers for continual safety and protection for health. I'm very grateful for things not being too crazy when it comes to health and safety. Also, for continual favor as we partner with minitries that help prevent or bring awareness of human trafficking.
