The Wind, 5/29/2026
Yesterday was a lovely day, 60s and sunny, tho' a bit breezy. Last night we had a storm front move through with the first rain in a few days, but the wind was a bit intense. (The airport recorded 49 MPH gusts, I think we might've had stronger than that up here, it was very brief, but wild.) I accomplished some new garden digging, but I got tired and quit early to continue reading Hail Mary, which my boys passed on to me a few weeks ago, I finally took it up as my porch read, they are dying for me to finish it so they can talk about it around me...Weir does know how to tell a good story, but nothing surprises me too much, or maybe I'm just too tired and unfocused...however, yesterday, I was so tired, I dozed off with Harper Lee snug against my left side purring her heart out. When I woke up the wind must've been enjoying the book very much because I started to pick up reading again and I was lost...so I had to find my place again, and finished another chapter.
This is yesterday's garden adventure (one of them):
I disturbed a good sized garter snake in the north garden (I might have screamed a little, not a loud girly scream, just a "Oh hi there, you startled me" sort of exclamation). I found it again later, it was hanging out near my cart in the driveway before disappearing into a patch of goldenrod. A few minutes later I heard Harper Lee hiss loudly and she sauntered out of the goldenrod, slightly bushy-tailed. She looked a bit annoyed with quite the scowl on her face. She probably tried to catch it to bring it to me as a present. The day before, she brought me a baby chipmunk (old enough to leave the nest, but still pretty little). Thankfully, it was unharmed, and made its getaway while I praised her for being such a good kitty! She's always bringing me presents...
This gorgeous bumblebee was hanging out with me while I was working. She was enjoying the Creeping Charlie that has entangled itself in the lower gardens, I don't mind the weed being there because the bees love it so much, and rely on it in early spring. I do tend to it to keep it in check throughout the season, it comes up easy enough.

There is more going on in this sketch, light marks, but they don't show up so well in the photo.
The clouds are working on clearing out, still breezy, it's 46 degrees, not much warmer since I got up at 6AM (that's sleeping in for me, I'm not used to this luxury, yet.)
The lower garden view...a work in progress.
The snowball bush in full bloom!
That's all for now...I think I'm going to do Saturday posts from now on, it's what I used to do before COVID, I believe it's time to dial it back.
