Some of the ridiculous situations I’ve gotten myself in whilst hitchhiking. Although I was dumb enough to get myself into them in the first place, I like to hope I’ve learned from them as I’m about to embark on my next adventure.

Things to remember: Check the weather forecast. Don’t sleep with food in your tent. Always carry emergency contact. 

I'm normally really good with these rules but I occasionally make mistakes...

I’ll try to make the next comic more positive. My failures are far more entertaining, tho.

Hitchhiking New Zealand 2015-2016.

Poor camera quality, I had to travel extremely light and was limited to my phone. For 3 months I hitchhiked New Zealand, sleeping solely outside and travelling solely by thumb.

I briefly considered dropping an absolute photo dump on you guys, of my travels in New Zealand and Asia from 2015, but figured I wanted to keep my blog more art focused, really. Here’s just one photo from Christmas Eve at the bottom of the world, one of my fave memories.

I wanted to ask- what would you guys like to see more of in terms of travel comics? Hitchhiking experiences with people? Camping problems? Times I got lost/stuck? Advice? Serious stuff or funny? 

Honestly I just have years and years worth of information and it’s very hard to be selective about what I draw. It’d be awesome to hear what you actually want to see/read about. Feel free to leave an ask~

Well YES SHE DID. I've been brutally busy the past year with everything from moving city to starting a new concept art job to hitchhiking for 3 months and I just.... didn't have the spare energy to actually complete anything worth posting.

So I thought I'd start creating comics about my adventures whilst hitchhiking! Cos im certainly useless at fuckin WRITING these stories down..

I'll make this into a lil series of all kinds of tales and stories if people are interested? But for now, here's a few of the stupid animal problems I had at night..... super goddamn rough because that's all i can achieve at the moment

I love this so much! As someone who’s only really started to travel in the last year, I totally get that initial terror. I’ve been pretty fortunate, and made so many friends all over the world. I went to Boston on a whim this weekend and got to spend an evening with comic people I met mostly through twitter - and everyone was wonderful. Yes, I got terrible food poisoning on the way home, but I also got to have barbecue and Manhattans with people who used to be strangers. Travel! It’s good for you.

This is very important to me and I feel it describes perfectly what I have a hard time trying to explain to people who ask or warn me about my travels.

I've been on several hitch hiking trips across Europe and America, including one I'm currently on now. Most would agree it's borderline stupid for a young girl to travel this way, as it's quite easily the most precarious method- which is true. But it's a matter of accepting the dangers, being aware of your surroundings and being confident with yourself. Limiting yourself to experiences is damaging- and perhaps i open myself to a severely concentrated manner or experiencing the world, but it's a decision I make and am happy with. It's about finding a way to get what you want out of the world, and being fearless about it- being scared makes it easier for others to give you a reason to be scared.

hi lauren! your drawing "the witch's son" is really interesting, and it would make a great story. have you ever thought about making it a into something, i mean the idea is brilliant!

I’ve had endless numbers of people offering to write stories for the picture, and that’s fantastic, because I’m sure other people have more imagination than me about where to take it next. I never had any plan of doing anything with the concept, but since all the attention it’s had, I was considering starting a comic. I have a small backstory in mind, but nothing too detailed just yet. It would depend on how many people were interested in me following it up myself, I suppose.
