Nothing Lasts Forever: Transit Farewell Tour
Last night was an emotional night for me as I saw Transit take the stage for the last time in Philadelphia. I started listening to Transit in my sophomore year of high school. At this time, I didn’t have a lot of friends and struggled with depression. I remember sitting alone in the hallway before class listening to Keep This to Yourself or skipping lunch to paint and listen to Listen & Forgive. During a hard time in my life, Transit was one of those bands that made life more bearable and made me feel like these problems were only temporary (which they were). I’ve been to a bunch of their shows over the past few years, from opening for The Wonder Years to Warped Tour to playing basement shows on Long Island, but last night was by far the most special.
They opened with “Stay Home” and I immediately got chills when the whole room was yelling, “keep running, keep shining on.” Then they went into some more fan favorites like “The Only One” and “You Can’t Miss It (It’s Everywhere).” Because this is their last tour, they had a huge set list and had the chance to play songs they don’t usually get to play. The highlight of my night was when they slowed it down and played “Indoor Voices” because I’ve never heard it live before and honestly never thought I ever would. I’ve always resonated with these lyrics, especially the line, “I’m getting tired of being told that you’re only one person to the world, when to one person, you could be the world.” It was impossible not to get choked up during this song. They played songs from This Will Not Define Us all the way through their newest release, Joyride, so there were songs for everyone. They played their most popular song, “Long Lost Friends,” but instead of doing encore after, they continued playing a few more songs including the most fitting for the occasion, “Nothing Lasts Forever” and “Skipping Stone.” Everyone sang “I’m getting good at saying goodbye,” but it meant even more than usual knowing we were actually saying goodbye to Transit this time. However, even with the sadness of knowing this was my last Transit show, I still could not stop smiling the entire time. They somehow managed to pack years of memories and emotions into an hour and a half set and I felt like it was the perfect way to say goodbye to one of my favorite bands. I know I will miss seeing them so much, but I am so glad I will have memories of this night to hold on to.
