with Laurent's tendency to just say weird ass non sequiturs and Pacat's narrating style that only provides the context for what he said paragraphs later and my own personal brand of being illiterate, the first time he says "sweetmeat?" I full on thought he was trying to get Damen's attention by calling him this brand new derogatory nickname. I thought. essentially. that he was calling him his meaty sweetie

#i didnt know sweetmeat means sweets/candy/confectionary #i may be stupid #i thought that it was a derogatory name for damen who was previously described as big and muscular #and the sweet part was the deamining/fake tender part since many other lord's dot on their pets #and book1 laurent could definitely try and humiliate him
