#captiveprince #vashwood #questions
This is my second blog under a new nickname for all my fanarts or drawings of shows and books that don't fit on my main and are sometimes containing more mature themes.
Hey capri community! I would love to hear some book recs from you! Setting: prefer fantasy/otherworldly/period over the real current world.
Gender doesn't really matter, there can be romance and spice (slowburn is always fun). Can have darker topics if done well.
Most importantly I really want to feel what the characters experience. Can be love/deep connection, fear/panic or whatever emotion but I want to gasp or laugh when reading… It's really hard to describe.
Pacat gave all that to me, but it's hard to find in other books so far. (Freya's A Marvellous Light was one of the ones that managed to do it, the second book less so tho, haven't read the third yet.)
So if anyone has a recommendation, please drop it in the comments. 👉👈

EDIT: OMG thank you so much for all the recommendations! I compiled them in alphabetical order, so other people can refer to the list in case they need a recommendation as well:

Hey is the captive prince a written story? I love your art.
Yes, indeed it is and thank you!
It's a three book series by C.S.Pacat.
Captive Prince
Prince's Gambit
Kings Rising
Summer Palace (the short stories)
As this is a story with difficult topics, please check the trigger warnings before reading.
Here is a thing i started last year and haven't continued (ノ´ヮ`)ノ*: ・゚
Have you read Erha? (full title below) I haven't yet (it's next on my list) but apparently everyone who loves the Captive Prince trilogy loves this one too.
The Husky and His White Cat Shizun: Erha He Ta De Bai Mao Shizun by Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou
I believe someone recommended it already so it should be on the book recommendations list that I started in April. :)
My reading was actually very spare the past months, because I had so much on my mind, so I wasn't able to fully appreciate all the recommendations that were given to me.
I'm currently reading the Riehse Eshan series and even though I'm on book 3, some things do bug me about it, so I might switch to another book for now.
Hi! I just tore through the capri series and I wanted say how absolutely obsessed I'm with all your art and how well you capture each scene!! Like the composition?? The colors/lighting?? Their expressions!??? INSANE thank you <3
I would like to ask if you are planning to read dark rise? you would love it, just like all capri fans
p.s. your latest arts is magnificent I was walking and screaming around the room
Once again I didn't see these messages because they are not shown on the phone app. T_T This is from April, whhhhaaaaa.
Hi delafran!
I have read Dark rise, even made a little illustration for it which you can find on this blog, but it's under a spoilertag.
But as you might have noticed I'm currently a bit inactive on here, because some things changed in my life and I was focussing on that for now. But I hope I will get back to drawing fanarts of whichever book I'm reading very soon.
My friend @ming85 asked me if she could color my little abandonded comic and look at all the cool backgrounds and clothing details she added! <3 So cool to see it (the glorious butt) in color! Check out her capri tag as well, her own illos are incredible!
I really dislike photo covers for books, so I made my own for this story.
(The book was recommended to me on my book post, that you all left so many book recs on, thank you so much!)
I just realised that so much of the CaPri art I really love is from you... Haven't recognized it before but thank you so much 🥰
I mean the new one with Aimeric of course, then the one with Nicaise and the feather and Nicaise and the fork (Really love that one)... And Laurent asleep cuddled against Damen (This is just perfect)
I love the others, too, but those are my highlights 💕
Thank you!💕 💕💕 It's always interesting and sometimes suprising to see which scenes people like.
The feather is actually an earwig It's a bit meaner towards poor Damen. (I know, hard to tell because the drawing is so tiny and quickly done.)
I came here from Pinterest and I just want to say that the way you draw Laurent and Damen are so amazing, the angels are soooooo good and the lighting is actual perfection 😭.
Is there anywhere else you post all of your comics/fanart and stuff, in one place?
Also - any tips on male proportions?
Thank you so much! 😊
I only post on tumblr, insta and in case tumblr complains that it looks nsfw I will post that drawing on bluesky. (I had a twitter, but since twitter went the AI way, I removed all my drawing from there.)
I know I post super rarely (apologies!) but I'm currently learning a bit of animation which takes all the free time I have.
Hmm, not sure I have any tipps.... for a long time I mostly drew ladies and couldn't even draw men very well. Proportions can vary so much from man to man, so there is not the one correct thing. I guess make the shoulders a bit wider, the hips less so and the angles a bit more squarish. Otherwise I mostly draw them the same as the ladies as the anatomy is not that much different. You can look up "anatomy for sculptors" if you want to understand muscles and things like that.
Hii! Your art is sooo beautiful!!! I love the atmosphere and the colors you choose, they are always perfect!! All the dynamic movements are soo beautifully captured by you and it feels like such a difficult thing to master! Maybe this has been asked before, but if it hasn't, how did you get so good at art? Did you go to art school or are you self-taught?
Thank you so much!!
I did go to art school, but think it was pretty much a waste of time because the school wasn't very good. So it's mostly self taught with help of tutorials and online courses I suppose. I did meet a lot of great people outside of school that were a big influence on me though, so I will always be greatful for that. <3 I think theses days going the self taught route is much easier with all these resources available, than when I started.
In regards to difficult things:
It all seems difficult and it still is ( I still struggle a lot), but it really is just a lot of practising and actually trying to draw the things you find difficult.
For example if you are scared to draw backgrounds and never do it, you will never get better at it, right? Because you haven't gone through the actual process of figuring out a structured way to do them yet.
I was always scared to draw more than one person in an illustration in the past. But then I had to get over that fear because I needed to all of a sudden draw like 6 people in one illo for my job and that is how I learned it: By just doing it, struggeling at it but not giving up and it the end it turned out okay and everytime I got better at it.
Not sure that was helpful...😅 But yeah struggle through it and be kind to yourself! Sometimes we have to draw 50 ugly drawings to get to that one pretty one. <3
(Sorry for the late reply, i never get notifications for these messages on my phone.)
Gonna let this one go into the archives.... I can't make it work.
But I thought I post at least the sketch, because I haven't been able to post anything the past months.
I’m absolutely in love with your art grahhhh!! Do you do commissions at all?
Thanks so much!!❤️❤️❤️
Sorry that i've seen these so late. Somehow messages don't show up on my phone?
I have never done any personal commissions for three reasons:
1.)I think I would have trouble drawing characters that I have not come in contact with or seen/read their story. I feel like I wouldn't be able to fully draw them as the people they are. But maybe that's just my anxiety talking, haha.
2.) I feel much more comfortable asking for appropriate payment from big publishers with big budgets than from individual normal people.
3.) I have not much time to draw outside of work. 😭I'm not even sure when to draw the fanart I want to draw for IWTV.
If I ever change my mind, I will definitely post it here for all to see. ❤️
Just wanted to pop in and say your Damen is so handsome. Most handsome iteration I've seen. Making Laurent's "You're very...attractive" line ring very true.
Thank youuuuu ❤️ I try my best to do justice to that fictional man.
