The Silent Beast.
Optimism.
Just. Want. To. Be. Her. Is that so much to ask?
this is true
“I no longer believed in the idea of soul mates, or love at first sight. But I was beginning to believe that a very few times in your life, if you were lucky, you might meet someone who was exactly right for you. Not because he was perfect, or because you were, but because your combined flaws were arranged in a way that allowed two separate beings to hinge together.” - Lisa Kleypas -
Girls are taught a lot of stuff growing up. If a guy punches you he likes you. Never try to trim your own bangs and someday you will meet a wonderful guy and get your very own happy ending. Every movie we see, Every story we’re told implores us to wait for it, the third act twist, the unexpected declaration of love, the exception to the rule. But sometimes we’re so focused on finding our happy ending we don’t learn how to read the signs. How to tell from the ones who want us and the ones who don’t, the ones who will stay and the ones who will leave. And maybe a happy ending doesn’t include a guy, maybe it’s you, on your own, picking up the pieces and starting over, freeing yourself up for something better in the future. Maybe the happy ending is just moving on. Or maybe the happy ending is this, knowing after all the unreturned phone calls, broken-hearts, through the blunders and misread signals, through all the pain and embarrassment… you never gave up hope.

Taking Time to Look Up
It's a beautiful Thursday afternoon in September, the sun is shining and the weather is warm without being scorchingly hot. Usually at this time I'm between classes and would probably hole myself up in the library to get some work done...but today is different. The climate is too wonderful to ignore and all too reminiscent of home.
Living, eating, and breathing in the sample place 24/7 can be isolating and make you lose perspective on the world. Trust me, I live on a college campus, one of the most self-sustaining and independent establishments around. Everybody here is the same age, has similar goals, and does similar things. As such, it's easy to forget about the outside world with all its joys and wonders and problems.
So I'm sitting on a bench, playing a song by a Danish band called Mew coincidentally called "Comforting Sounds." And I had one of those moments. You know, those completely and utterly peaceful moments where you're focused on the melody of the music and nothing else. It's almost like you're viewing everything around you from a hundred miles away. Out of body experience seems cliche, but whatever. I tilted my head back...and looked up. The sky has always fascinated me, but today it meant a lot more. It reminded me that this is not all there is and to keep things in perspective. There's something far larger and more wonderful out there to work towards and think about.
CrossFit Gangnam Style...so awesome!
Long Distance
I am in a not-so-unique situation, a long-distance relationship. Other side of the country, that's how long. Seems nearly impossible, right? But my boyfriend and I accomplished it. In fact, we stuck out an entire year of it. But now here I am, back at college, gearing up for a second year of missed phone calls, misunderstood texts, lonely nights, and long hours of waiting and missing and dreaming. But I also look forward to those epic reunions, precious moments made even more so by the ticking clock. I look forward to long Skypes, surprise packages, even surprise visits.
The hardest part about long distance isn't the distance itself, surprisingly. It's the stark dichotomy of happy and sad: the high highs and the low lows that can hit with a startling ferocity.
I am in a long-distance relationship, and it eats away at me day by day. It may not be practical or natural or healthy, but the heart wants what it wants. I love my boyfriend, and that keeps me fighting day by day to beat the immense odds stacked against us. That fight in me is waning, though, and I feel such pain in admitting that. But when there seems to be no growth or progress, when we continually fall back into the same frustrating patterns, I feel helpless and tired.
Sorry for such a sad post, but I needed to vent a bit.
