excuse me if I do not jump anymore
when someone tells me they love me
that i keep my feet firm and flat against the earth
when in my heart,
i am leaping
i am swollen with smiles, and rivers of euphoria course through me
i am warm, arms outstretched, and desperate for embrace with those who confess such feelings
i am painfully open to new bonds
and i love, love, love to be loved
and to love
i am love
and i have spread it far and wide and bestowed it freely to all who have held it out to me
but that love doesn't always keep
like all things, time changes love
it spoils, and it sours, and it melts away into rot when it is not maintained
contempt and resentment mold over the edges
what was once a sweet, savory bond has turned sticky, a cling to the skin one can never wash off
i will not jump anymore for mere words
lesson learned
not all who speak love can nurture it
not all who love me can truly see me
