Candle Safety Rule #2: Do not add flammable items to candles or burn candles with embedded items!

In 2022, the National Candle Association conducted a safety test for candles with added botanicals and reported that the candles did not meet fire safety standards. [Source]

We get it. They look cool, and if you're of a witchy persuasion, they seem like a great way to put together a candle spell. But adding things like paper, herbs, flowers, crystals, or oils to a candle is a major, major fire hazard. They can cause the candle to burn in unexpected ways, experience rapid changes in flame height, put off smoke, throw sparks, ignite from multiple points, or even combust.

Practice good fire safety. Don't add things to candles. For further information on candle safety, please see the National Candle Association's Candle Safety Tips page.

Once again begging video creators to caption their videos correctly.

If the audio says 'shit', the caption needs to say 'shit'.

If the audio says 'S-[bleep]' then you can write 's***' (though [bleep] is better and more accurate)

If your audio says 'shit' and your captions say 's***', then you're treating your d/Deaf and hard of hearing audience as children you need to protect from your Icky Naughty Words [pearl clutch] while your hearing audience are Grown Ups Who Can Hear Grown Up Words.

It's NOT a New Years resolution. We've talked about this.

But since I am starting a new planner, I have blocked off a little section for three things: Consume, Create, Maintain. And each day, I want to have at least one thing in each box.

Consume can be: Watch movie. Scroll social media. Look at pretty art. Play video game. Read book. Listen to music. Listen to podcast. Drink a latte. Have a candy. Brew some of the fancy tea. Etc.

Create can be: Draw, paint, doodle. Crochet. Write a long blog post. Write in my journal. Put stickers in my journal. Work on a jigsaw puzzle. Make some food that involves more than opening a box. Have an in-depth chat about our D&D characters with friend. Arrange trinkets on a shelf to be aesthetically pleasing. Create a playlist. Etc.

Maintain can be: Text friend and ask what's new. Write a letter to grandma. Call sister. Dust off the bookshelf. Put away that half finished craft project. Brush the cat, or clip his nails. Change the sheets. Go grocery shopping. Use a sheet mask. Use that leave-in conditioner. Throw out that dried-up nail polish. Etc.

Because y'all know that otherwise my ADHD ass will pick ONE of those categories and do it ALL DAY until I collapse.

Fuck, Disney, you can't just grab the Big Name Actors Of The Day and have them voice a Ghibli movie. Voice acting is a different skill than on-camera acting, and tbh a LOT of these folks do NOT have the voice acting skill.

Anyway, I couldn't do it. One single line from Liam Neeson had me running to borrow the subtitled version from my friend Roger.

Me: I should work on that page on theatrical magic I want to put up on my site. I have a bunch of good things to put on there if I can figure out how to organize it. Some good incantations and charms to make and how to tame theater spirits and that thing about liminal spaces and circle casting as it relates to the stage…

Also me: I want to put a Backstreet Boys section on my witch site. Because.
