Lily made a face at the mere thought of a sunburn, “Honestly, I can’t think of anything worse than that- the red burnt look doesn’t go well with a lot. At least for me, you would look great even with the tomato look!” She said, holding the sunscreen out to Lola. 

Lola laughed bashfully, “I doubt it actually but I appreciate the sentiment all the same,” She took the sunscreen and started to apply it, “Sometimes I really do forget and it’s because the sun is that enjoyable warm and not that scorching hot and then all of a sudden I’m burnt. It’s crazy.”

“Are you sure? At least let me talk to them about making sure they’re maintaining their building.” Alex said- with anyone else Alexandria wouldn’t have cared, but she didn’t want this to happen to again Lola when she is by herself. 

“Alex, I love you but I can handle it,” Lola said with an appreciative smile, “But if he tries screwing us over, I will let you know and you can kick his ass, okay? I promise.”

“Wow, these are really good,” Amy said, looking at the pieces. “Can you teach me to do this?”

“You want me to teach you to draw?” Lola said and smiled, “Okay, sure.”

“I suppose. Big thing to drop out of though.” Because it would have been hard to go back to that if it was something she enjoyed. He doubted Logan would have been too impressed that he was the reason for that change at the very least. A scoff seemed to unintentionally leave him when Lola commented on him being nice than his exterior showed. “Don’t know about that… most people would disagree but you’re a kid and you’re Logan’s sister. I’d never hear the end of it if I insulted you.” Okay, not entirely the truth, or rather it was but it wasn’t the reason he was being nice to her. After what they had both been through, he felt like he didn’t want to add to that. She was nice enough and gave him no reason to be mean towards her.

“I was only really doing it because my parents anyway. I mean I’m capable of doing it but I don’t know how much I would have enjoyed it. I like helping people but it’s a lot of pressure and I don’t know if I would have enjoyed it or been able to handle it on the occasions when I didn’t save people,” She shrugged, “I kinda prefer art anyway,” She furrowed her brow, “I’m not a kid. I’m 21. Do you see me as a kid?” She asked, “I can take a few insults you know. I mean if they’re malicious, I won’t be happy about it but I can take it.”

James smiled slightly. “It’s okay, really,” he insisted. “It’s not like you could’ve known, I don’t wear my ‘parents are dead’ shirt often these days,” he joked.

Lola tried to stifle a laugh, “Sorry. It’s not funny,” She took his hand and squeezed it reassuringly with a smile, “It’s nice that you’re reading her favourite book. I would do the same. I don’t think I’d ever put it down really.”

Amy nodded excitedly. “Oh yes!”

Lola grinned brightly, “Awesome! Hold on one second,” She went to grab her book for watercolours and opened it to find the write pieces, “Oh here!” She handed the book to her, “That page and the next few after that.”

“Maybe you should move. This place? Not safe.”Alex said with a shake of her head, “Do you want me to say something to the landlord?” 

“I couldn’t do that to Sadie. The apartment itself is nice, so is the landlord. Don’t say anything. There’s no need,” Lola just didn’t like confrontation or causing trouble, “Maybe I’ll just take the stairs from now on.”

“I know-.. and I believe that they didn’t give you any other information other than my location. But that’s still-… if you were able to do it so easily, who’s to say they won’t be able to do it to find the both of us.” And he couldn’t face his parents, not after all this time, not after everything he had been through. “A clean slate with nothing but transparency from here on out, okay? I’ll be honest with you, if you’re honest with me.”

Lola frowned. She hadn’t thought about that, “Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that but if it does then we can deal with it... together. I mean we’re both adults, it’s not like they can drag us back home right?” She shrugged but then nodded eagerly, “Yes, absolutely. 100% honesty, I want nothing more,” She paused, “Umm... do you want to call me Lola or Leila?” She asked, “You’re the only person in town who has called me both at one point or another. I don’t really mind which one you call me now.”

“You dropped out to find your brother…” Aaron spoke slowly, almost as if he was trying to process what the girl had said. “That’s pretty dramatic. Does Logan know?” He asked after a moment because he wasn’t sure how the blonde would feel about that. “And you’re welcome… He deserves to be happy and if you really care about him and want a relationship with him then he deserves a good family.”

“Yeah, I did. After I found out that my parents had disowned him rather than him just leaving like they told me,” Lola then nodded, “Yeah, I told him. I mean, it was kind of a minor detail in the middle of my whole story of how I ended up here but I did tell him,” She continued to grin at him, “I do, I really do,” She paused, “You’re a lot nicer than your tough exterior leads people to believe you know. Thank you,” She said again.

James was taken aback for a moment at Lola’s comments. “I’d love for you to meet her too,” he responded. “But she died when I was younger.”

“Oh James, I’m so sorry,” James said, “Me and my darn mouth. I always put my foot in it, I’m sorry.”

“Are you sure you don’t have any?” Lily asked, “I think I might have some…” She paused to dig through her own bag, before pulling out some sunscreen. “Aha! Here it is! Do you want some? You can’t go out in the sun without it!” 

“Oh gosh, please, if you’re willing,” Lola said with a bright, grateful smile, “I literally will turn as red as a tomato without it.”

“Oh! Right,” Lola said, laughing sheepishly, “The sunset. I meant the sunset. It happens in a few minutes, come on.”

🌅 - our muses watch the sunset together/get up early to watch the sunrise

“James, James!” Lola called out when she spotted the familiar face, “Come on, you have to come with me. Or we’ll miss it!” She exclaimed, “We don’t have much time and I found the perfect spot, will you come with me?” She didn’t seem to process that she was giving no details about what she was talking about but she was too excited.
