Leah had always known she was different. It had started when she was young. She would get angry and things would burst into flames. She thought it was coincidence until her mum sat her down and explained her powers. Apparently the gene was from her dad. The dad that up and left. So she was magic. Shunned from her old friends she decided to enroll in St. Deveraux so she could be around the right people.
"Mhm!" she hummed in reply with a small smile. "Y-Yeah work is kinda blech ~" Fintan scrunched up her nose a bit at the sound effect while her face was still met with a smile. The little dragon gave a small giggle. "P-Pretty good… not a uhm h-huge fan of the snow ~ dragons don’t usually prefer the cold…"
Leah nodded in sympathy on the comment about the cold, agreeing completely. "Oh god yeah, the snow has been crazy, hasn't it?" She asked, rubbing her arms is if fighting off the cold. "Where do you work?" She added, smiling slightly at the sound the other had made.
Fintan took the book with a gentle smile. “Th-Thank you… O-Oh..! Y-You’re Leah right? We met a while ago… How are you?” she asked pleasantly.
Leah nodded in response to both the thanks and the name guess, smiling slightly. "Yeah... You're Fintan, right?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. "I am good, work is a bitch, but I'm good, how are you?"
"U-Um… S-Sorry to bother you, b-but could you help me reach that book..? Th-That one… Life of Pi.” she asked nervously to the person with their back to her.
Leah turned around at the quiet voice, smiling slightly. "Oh, uh, sure..." She replied, reaching up for the book asked for. "Here ya go!" She added, handing the book over.
Athena let a soft laugh escape her lips but she also couldn’t help but admire the confidence Leah seemed to hold. “I doubt you are out of tune,” she interjected a slight rush of nerves following afterwards. To which Athena was going to ignore but as the conversation turned towards her again her nerves escalated slightly. “Oh,.. well not much truly,” she wasn’t entirely sure if admitting that her time was mostly spent studying, reading for leisure or gardening was the right idea. Not everyone shared her interests. As she had quickly learnt in years gone by at previous establishments, “w-what about yourself?” Athena asked quietly willing the conversation away from herself.
"Oh no you'd be surprised about how awful I sound when I sing. It's absolutely shocking. I'd definitely get a no from Simon Cowell..." Leah argued, grinning at the girl, though she felt herself blush at the compliment. As her question was brushed off, she frowned slightly, confused as to why the other wasn't revealing any information. "Me? Oh, I don't really do much, I mean... I have quite a few shifts here, but other than that I mainly read, drink and go shopping. I'm quite social, yano?" She explained, sticking to the minimum of answers she had to give, her eyes glancing over the labels at the ends of bookshelves, looking for the section they were heading for.
As Leah slowed Athena matched her pace finding the slower speed more natural despite being a faster runner, disregarding her clumsiness, the unicorn much preferred a soft and slow walk. She loved to take in the beauty of all that around her and ever more so when out in the great outdoors but even here in the library there was beauty to be found. Athena caught the reference having watched the animated musical only a few weeks back, she was always terribly late to the latest craze, a quiet giggle escaping her lips, “that song was in my head for days after I saw the movie,” Athena said brightly. Her enthusiasm became more subdued and with a softer smile she added, “I’m Athena it’s wonderful to meet you Leah”.
Leah smiled at the comment the other gave about the song. "Oh same, and I definitely let my dorm know about it. By singing it loudly, and very out of tune..." She commented, laughing slightly. She knew in the back of her mind that she wasn't a good singer, and that when she did sing it probably annoyed everyone else. She was enjoying the conversation they were having, it was making her day slightly less dull. "So what do you get up to, Athena, because I don't think I've ever actually met you before..."
Leah nodded slightly as she came out from behind the desk, she knew what it was like to get lost. “Yeah, I know you have to be super careful with the water, but unfortunately that’s not my problem…” She started, starting down an aisle, beckoning the other to follow her with...
Leah smiled at the girl, slowing slightly so she didn't charge too far ahead. She listened carefully to the words, paying attention, interested. "Well I will admit that the cold doesn't bother me..." She commented, the Frozen reference slipping out uncontrolled. She seemed to enjoy hearing about the flowers, the slightly dreamy way the other spoke drawing her in. "Oh I'm Leah, and yourself?"
Leah frowned slightly at the name of the flower, she’d never heard of those before. “Uh, yeah… That would be in the exotic flowers section I think, do you need me to show you?” She asked, though she honestly had no idea where to find the book. Shaking her head slightly she...
Leah nodded slightly as she came out from behind the desk, she knew what it was like to get lost. "Yeah, I know you have to be super careful with the water, but unfortunately that's not my problem..." She started, starting down an aisle, beckoning the other to follow her with her hand, not wanting to leave her behind. "I'm a fire elemental, so I'm a bit hotter than most, so I think the plants get too hot and die..." She explained, a small smile playing on her lips. "I don't mind, it's nice to hear someone actually enthusiastic about something..."
Leah felt her throat tighten, both from the force the other was using to grip her neck and from the coldness of said grip. She knew the other was doing this in revenge, but had a strong feeling that if Nyla wasn’t stopped, she was going to die soon. Closing her eyes she...
Leah laughed at the scream of pain the other released, the sound giving her the motivation to fight more, her fingers beginning to claw at the other, scratching any flesh she could get her hands on. While she knew that fighting was the only way to stay alive, she knew of someone didn't help, it would be futile. Through the steam she saw the outline of a figure approaching. "HELP!" She screeched, trying to get their attention.
Francesca ran closer to the commotion she had spotted after hearing a scream. Noticing the fire, she closed her eyes, finding something inside her to give her strength. "Hey!" She shouted, trying to draw the attention of those involved, shooting water from her fingertips, hoping it would shock the fighters apart.
Leah thumped her head against the desk she sat at, the graveyard shift at the library - which was practically every shift - was her least favourite shift of all. Hearing the small creak of the door, her head snapped back up. “Do you need any help?” She asked, trying to look...
Leah frowned slightly at the name of the flower, she'd never heard of those before. "Uh, yeah... That would be in the exotic flowers section I think, do you need me to show you?" She asked, though she honestly had no idea where to find the book. Shaking her head slightly she let out a laugh. "It might take a while, by the way, I've never ventured into the flower section, I always tend to kill them when I try to grow them..." She added, shrugging.
Leah thumped her head against the desk she sat at, the graveyard shift at the library - which was practically every shift - was her least favourite shift of all. Hearing the small creak of the door, her head snapped back up. "Do you need any help?" She asked, trying to look as though she wasn't bored out of her mind.
Leah stood glaring at the other as she screamed, conflicted about what to do. Nyla was her friend… Wasn’t she? As she felt the first hard hailstone hit her, Leah let out a screech, dropping her wall, to create a flame umbrella, to protect her head, falling backwards as the...
Leah felt her throat tighten, both from the force the other was using to grip her neck and from the coldness of said grip. She knew the other was doing this in revenge, but had a strong feeling that if Nyla wasn't stopped, she was going to die soon. Closing her eyes she remembered that fire was enough to kill a fairy, so she allowed herself to be engulfed in flames, like the Human Torch, hoping it would be enough for the fairy to release her.
He was riding - he could see it..! But he couldn’t see it either. Vesper was seeing but not with his eyes - riding on the back of a black stallion that seemed almost like a creature that had been damned. His sword was carried at his hip as it always was, but what was he holding? Dear Christ...
Leah let out an embarrassingly birdlike screech as she heard a horse whinny, her head snapping round to find the source of the sound, her eyes widening as she saw a horseman. Due to her transformation she could see better, a small grin forming on her face as she recognised the head that was being carried. "What do we have here?"
Ainslee looked at her, ” It could be a lot worse, I saw a few other girls who were turned into a lot more worse things then what you are.” she said, ” It won”t last forever, just a few days at the most I’m sure.” Ainslee said, trying to comfort her.
Leah raised an eyebrow at that, wondering what could be worse than being half bird. "Well a few days is longer than I would like to look like a bird. I really hate the headmasters." She muttered, having finally stooped crying properly.
Leah walked past a mirror and let out a scream, which came out sounding more like the cry of a bird. She was a bird. Or, half of one. Running into the hallway she let out a sob, her beautiful face… It was ruined.
Ainslee saw a girl run out into the hallway as she was...
Leah let out a choked laugh, looking at the other girl. "And how do you call this okay? Look at me! I'm hideous!" She snapped, feeling utterly pathetic. She knew it was just a spell, but she liked her looks, and this was not how she imagined waking up.
