Hair punching process to final piece.

I bought hair extensions from an African hair shop in Peckham for £5.95. This is what I will use to add hair to my creature character for my final outcome.

I have painted the sculptured head and covered it again with a layer of latex so that it is now ready for the hair punching process to begin.

I opted not us use the casted latex mask that I had mad for my final piece but instead I will just use it as experimentation. I therefore covered my whole sculpt in plaster of Paris bandage to cover any cracking that formed from the air drying clay and then once that had dried I covered it in a layer of latex to resemble human skin.

I made my own tool for hair punching into latex. I cut the eye of a regular sewing needle and an angle do one prod was slightly longer than the other so that made the product capable of catching/ picking up individual hair strands. U then wrapped some masking tape around the needle end for grip and the used these pliers for extra grip.

Latex body pieces. I used plaster of Paris bandage over a male mannequin in order to get a casted make torso, then I poured thickened latex into the mould in order to create the latex body parts.

In order to try and get a more detailed and defined latex cast I used plaster of oaris bandage to make to mould and then filled that with latex.

I covered my sculpt in Alginate in order to test and see if it was possible to cast a latex mask of it straight from the Alginate. I found that this is probably nor the best idea when making masks as it took quite a while for my latex cast to dry rather than if you were to cast from a plaster of oaths mould.

I began to sculpt my final outdone for the project. The character is based on a hybrid creature. Since I enjoyed researching both gargoyles and goat men characters such as fauns. I decided to make my character a mix of both with human characteristics.

I attempted to life cast the male head by applying Alginate them plaster of Paris bandage I top. Once the bandage had dried I went to remove both layer of material to find that the Alginate subj into all the little polystyrene fibres on the head making it impossible for me to remove the cays without it breaking and therefore being no use to me.

Materials.

Since u want my final outcome to be a male character I have ordered a male polystyrene head alongside a plastic male torso. The reasoning for doing this is so that I will be able to cast a replica of a male figure before sculpting on to of it.

Since I based my hybrid monkey creature character on the film planet of the apes (2001) I decided to reflect upon what the female character in the film looked like and that's when I noticed that one of the characters had a short vibes styles hair, therefore I pinned my own hair up at the back and pulled out little ruffs of layers so that the photographs resembled and connected with the inspired design idea coming from the film planet of the apes (2001). The original hybrid monkey creature sculpt out of clay was based on a male character however since I had to use my own face to place the l casted mask onto I decided to make this character I. The photographs female. In saying this the mask can be unisex.
