“You don’t have to talk to me if you don’t want to, Kyle,”
Heidi knew this wasn’t really the most ideal situation for either of them. They weren’t exactly each other’s favorite people, and she knew that. Still, that didn’t mean that they had to dislike each other, right? She hadn’t disliked them since they were both still children. Now at 14, she felt like she wanted to bridge the gaps between them.
“I wouldn’t blame you if you still resented me for how I treated you. I was horrible, and I’m sorry. I really, really am.” She’d been going to therapy for so long now, while her vegan diet had been brought back to how it once was. The change in diet had helped her lose the weight she’d gained from Cartman deceiving her, while a lot of the toxic mindsets he’d planted into her head no longer felt right to her.
“I don’t expect us to be friends, or anything like that. I just wanted you to know that I’m sorry, and I’m not the person I used to be while dating Eric.”
He wasn’t going to lie — almost every part of him was hesitant to talk to Heidi again. STILL, that small remaining part insisted he hear her out. Kyle had been reassured by quite a few people that she had genuinely been trying. It seemed like she was actually improving.
It just seemed too good to be true.
Kyle wasn’t sure how to respond. It’d been such a long time since the two of them had spoken and he couldn’t tell if she was being honest or not. Shifting his weight from one foot to the other, he seemed to size her up. He supposed it didn’t matter too much. It wasn’t like they had to be best friends or anything to start talking again. He didn’t even really have to TRUST her.
“ Yeah, don’t worry about it, ” Kyle said, his tone a bit stiff. “ It was a long time ago, right? Glad to see you’re doing better. What’ve you been up to? ”
