do you think that one the reasons why pepper dislikes magnet is because she sees parts of herself in her? she is obviously supposed to parallel salt but some of the thing magnet says are eye-opening.
YES YES YES 100%!!!! I think a lot of the initial disdain that pepper had for magnet was very "who does this girl think she is" and "you dont know me," but now a lot of the discomfort is coming from the attachment. my biggest wonder with the current situation is if it's making pepper more uncomfortable being "put into a salt role" or if she sees herself in magnet and is terrified that that's what she looks like
also, on the topic of magnets codependency and its parallels, im using this as an excuse to talk about the most fascinating magnet scene weve gotten so far
salt and peppers relationship is defined by codependency (as the show keeps telling us), but we only ever really see peppers side of it. ive seen some people say that this moment has her exhibiting pepper behavior, but honestly i think its more interesting to continue viewing this as her being a salt prototype.
each of the s4 newbies behaviors are more exaggerated than the characters they're prototypes of, and for magnet specifically i feel like a lot of the intent with her is to say more out loud the things that salt keeps in her head. obviously they aren't a one to one, but magnet is chock full of salt-isms, and seems genuinely hurt when she realizes pepper isn't following her.
when pepper isn't around salt, she starts freaking out. she gets anxious, she's unsure about herself, and she fidgets with her hands more than usual.
salt hasn't been without pepper since mid season one. when she was, she was self-sufficient, and attached herself to oj instead. but also, when she was, the characters were a lot less fleshed out and the creators had less of an idea of what they wanted to do with them.
when magnet is alone (and this is the first time we see her without pepper since she latched on to her), she starts spiraling, but not in the way that pepper does. for pepper, she needs someone to be around; to assist; to follow. for magnet, she needs the attention. if someone isn't following her around, she's doing something wrong. if someone isn't following her around, she's a bad trend setter.
i wouldn't be surprised if we see a similar moment happen to salt when we get to episode 9 in the remaster.
