she had considered going home after her second drink , a pleasant enough buzz to go home and curl up on the couch and mindlessly binge some trash television until she fell asleep . and she had also lost track of trixie somewhere between the staircase and the crowded living room earlier . instead of utilizing her favoured irish exit being a social recluse , she decided it was best to hover in the corner watching the games of beer pong get progressively more sloppy the more people drank . her own drink was knocked out of her hand as she moved away, dark eyes too focused on scanning the crowd for one of her friends. winnie’s lips curled into a grimace , delicate hand wiping at the stain on her white t-shirt . “ sorry … can i just grab another , ” winifred gestures past a person in front of her and to the table of drinks before looking down at the empty cup in her hand . “ i’ll try not to spill this one on myself . ” she mutters with a huff of laughter, more to herself than the person in front of her .
his attention is , yet again , on the assortment of drinks sprawled on the table , blue eyes far too focused on the cup in front of him as able hands find the right amount of this and that liquor to add to the concoction archie was calling a cocktail . he gives a satisfied grin , more to himself than any of the other attendees , before he tastes the drink . “ perfect , ” he muses . his back to the table , he lets his eyes move through the party and almost misses the voice coming from right in front of him . “ oh , hey . yeah , yeah , sure . ” he is moving as he talks , a grand gesture with his arm opening the way to the table for the girl . “ what kind of host would i be to leave a pretty girl without a drink ? ” he grins mischievously . “ actually , ” he starts . “ how about i do you one better and make you something ? i promise i’m the resident mixologist . ” self-appointed , of course .

the name carroll is synonymous with power and prestige ; it shouldn't be a surprise that it came with high expectations . from the moment archie was born , his father had a detailed path he was supposed to follow ; he was being groomed to take over the family empire , whether he wanted it or not .
he attended the right schools , had the right friendships , went to the right places , and never wanted for anything . to anyone , it would look like the perfect life , but behind closed door it was a different story . no amount of toys or international trips would make up for a mother who was too preoccupied with charity luncheons and society events to pay attention to her child , and a controlling and demanding father who would , at times , become physically and psychologically abusive in order to keep him in line .
archie learned early in life that appearances were what mattered the most , so he played the part . the golden boy to some , the rich asshole to others , it was easy to get lost in what people expected him to be . walls were built to keep from everyone’s eyes all the parts he didn’t want them to see . that they didn’t need to know — the doubts , the frustrations , the bruises . and when he needed a break from all the noise , he found his peace in the ice .
through it all , he has always had hockey . of course , his father found a way to try to suck the fun out of that , too . always reminding archie of every mistake , a turn over suddenly the worst thing in the world , and a win nothing more than his obligation . but it was one thing that archie loved without any pretense , so he persevered and threw his all at it . he got the best coaches , attended every development camp and by the end of high school , he had a pile of offers .
choosing the university of michigan was easy ; it was harder to go against his father's wishes . carrolls attended ivy league schools , they don't waste their time with hobbies like hockey . in the end , he won that fight . he is on his senior year , a defenseman for the pioneers with a lot of attention from sports enthusiasts and a high projected draft pick . the ice is still where he feels like himself .

archie has a loud and expansive personality . he is very extroverted and loves attention . he’s incredibly outgoing and has a knack for making people feel like they know him much better than they actually do .
sometimes he can be an arrogant jerk , but he’s not that bad and usually feels bad when he knows he crossed the line . he and his parents don’t get along , his friends are his family and he cares deeply about them and is loyal to a fault .
he hates showing vulnerability , so even when things are going badly or he’s feeling down and worried , he’ll have a smile on his face and a joke to tell . despite being highly extroverted , he keeps his guard up when it comes to more serious matters .
