This special is from a scene much further in the LU comic. It felt like a fitting way to reflect on the journey that started it all. What an impression it left, as we still feel that sense of adventure all these years later.
had a conversation in the ravio discord about my headcanon that legend is sensitive/allergic to most metals. @itsrosaross brought up that fae hyrule would also have a sensitivity to metal, but for a very different reason, and that it would be funny as hell if he just assumed legend was also secretly a fairy.
the conversation ended with us both simultaneously making gay jokes
Linked Universe Update: North East Basement 5 Thoughts
(The first time I get to do one of these, Wahoo! All art discussed here was made by Jojo @linkeduniverse Go read the update here!)
First of all: Zelink fans how we doing? =D
Hehe Look at those expressions, boy’s in love ^u^ Warriors’s “I get it, you’re 17” is so funny to me, I love this scene.
And the way Warriors’s expressions are drawn here?
Jojo has such a talent for visual storytelling. Man’s gone through shock and wasn’t even electrocuted.
Speaking of storytelling, I wanna digress about this pairing for a minute:
I think a lot of people forget that, while Twilight is paired with Wild most often and is technically in his game/adventure, out of the 9 Links, Warriors is closest to Wild in the timeline, at least in my view. Hyrule Warriors classic has portals to the Sky Era, OOT Era, and the Twilight Era, all of which happen on the same timeline, in what can be assumed is Wars’s past. Meaning that he’s actually the second latest Link in the timeline.
And of course, he’s also a narrative foil for Wild. The knight who stayed in the military vs the knight who got a chance to reinvent himself. One detail-oriented and sworn to his job leading others, and one who’s more a free-thinker and is still finding his purpose and place in his world. Both were thrust into that life at an early age but took vastly different paths, and it’s fascinating. Seeing them connect in this way is awesome, like they’re filling in each other’s gaps.
AND THE ENDING. Y’ALL. I need to unpack this a moment.
Wild’s answer to where he’d be in 5 years is “with Zelda.” He swore to protect her, just as, I assume, Warriors did. Jojo has mentioned that Warriors cares strongly for his Zelda, but because Wars is convinced that he needs to focus on his captain duties, and/or perhaps because of Cia and other traumas, he’s held off going further in his relationship with her. Look at the careful way he watches Wild in the panel above. He’s being quiet, reverent, actually listening, but there seems to be something deeper on his mind.
This could mean so much under the surface. Another foil between Warriors and Wild is that Wild got a chance to rebuild his life and duty alongside his Zelda, and seems to be actively choosing a life with her (cough cough he’s got a crush cough). Warriors still swears himself to his Zelda and is at her service as her knight, but is holding himself back from a life with her.
When he asks Wild, “What exactly is this path with Zelda you’re taking?
...Where does it go?”
He’s both prompting Wild to find a goal in life, and asking himself the same thing. Where is Warriors going with his Zelda? What will be the end result? Will he be stuck her captain forever or will one or both of them give in to their true feelings?
The page that follows is so interesting given this context. Wild can now clearly see his goal: He wants to make a better, healed Hyrule alongside his Zelda. And given Warriors’s resolve and inner thoughts just after, I imagine that goal is very similar to his own. But the degree of "with Zelda" is something Wars still struggles with.
Jojo said in the tags that this has more than one meaning. The most obvious is that they’ll tread more carefully in the dungeon. But deeper, he speaks about life. They are both accomplished knights, heroes that have completed their quest. Now they have to consider the possibility that, just as Time and Malon demonstrated, they might have a shot at happiness with the one they love. If they’re ready for that step is another question. Another step to consider.
Above all else, Warriors and Wild are starting to understand each other more and more, and that's beautiful.
The more I see of Warriors and Wild the more I’m reminded of Time and Sky’s discussion about lovesickness and finding your purpose and finding peace after the adventure and AAAAAAAAA! I love this comic so so so so much. There’s always something new to explore and narrative bits to appreciate.
@linkeduniverse Jojo you’re super awesome and your art is beautiful and I hope you know how much your creative spirit is appreciated ^u^
I was sleepy but wanted to do something so I picked out some memes on Pinterest and redrew them with Warriors while vibing to a specific set of songs I thought suited the mood on loop
I’ve been thinking about this for a long time and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s thought of this but I think it’ll be super compelling (and angsty lol) if when Lana and Cia sent everyone home that they also wiped everyone’s memories.
As guardians of time I think their most important priority is to keep the timeline stable and I think the best way to make sure that happens is to wipe everyone’s memories of the War Across Eras. Cuz imagine how easily things have been learned during this time period that could potentially cause trouble in either the past or future of Hyrule!
But it’s also so so sad because there’s a lot of importance of friendship in this game (the magic of friendship yo!!) and in the end Link, Zelda and Impa not only lose their friends from other time-periods. But these friends won’t even remember them or their friendship.
It’s also even more sad if you add LU in, Warriors remembers fighting alongside Time and Wind and has all these fond memories of them but they in turn don’t even remember him.
do you guys ever think Warriors just goes ‘wtf are yall on about’ when any other the other Links mention something about their adventures that a lil on the crazy side?? More on the dungeons and quests side?
Like Twi mentions fighting a giant skeleton monster in old prison grounds or how he had an underwater dungeon where he had to fight this giant eel monster underwater and Wars just goes huh???
Like Warriors has bosses on his battlefields but I feel like none of them have been crazy or inside these crazy dungeons! But also all of his bosses, outside of the original characters like Cia/Wizzro/Volga, are from other games. So like when Time mentions fighting King Dodongo does Wars go ‘oh same lol’??
There’s definitely some comedic potential there haha!
