The Legend of Vahni is a fan-made, non-profit project that follows the next Fire incarnation of the Avatar Cycle after the earthbending Avatar.

That's a good question...

I'll admit, I've been on a massive creative burnout for nearly a year. (I started grad school and other things have happened) I'll admit, I've thought and discussed doing something again for Vahni, but my drive right now is so low.

So for now... I don't know.

Can you draw Vahni in the Avatar State? Like Aang all angry?

I'm not doing anymore ancillary art till I have the final designs completed for Team Avatar and other supporting characters (which is a bit further down the road since I'm the only artist and I have another large project I work on).

So at the moment, I won't be doing anything of this sorts for a bit :(

At the moment I am refraining from posting specific updates. However, I can confirm Vahni's story is going to become based on Wattpad again!

Other updates are to come. I manage two projects at the moment, so it's been a brain-fryer trying to keep up with both at the same time. (esp being the only artist on the Vahni side of things) So, if you bear with me, I can promise things are being planned and I am working on settling more with Vahni once I can ;)

Does Vahni have any mental health issues? Because know Korra struggled with depression and PTSD, does Vahni struggle with things like that?

Mental health wise, Vahni has really bad anxiety. She's great at masking it, but she's very bad about suppressing her unease and it eats at her so much. (I can highkey relate to it haha)

I think she's always had really bad anxiety, ever since I created her. It's where her perfectionism comes from.

Yes! Vahni's entire team is officially planned and we have a basic structure laid out for them! I am debating on adding one more character, but it's to be decided.

Important: We’re still fairly early in development, so there is a lot that needs to be discussed and worked on, however, there is a lot of creative freedom that will come with this position. 

Positions open: 1

Responsibilities as an Artist:

Being able to work with others in a collaborative environment over Discord, Zoom, etc.

Able to provide character designs, concept work, and other art created for the story if asked or assigned.

Help edit documents located in a shared Google Drive, help create documents, notes, etc. during writing meetings

Being consistently present during chats, Zoom meetings, and any team held occasions.

Making sure you are up to date with the story, character, and plot development (we will hold a meeting after the decision is made to bring someone on to introduce you to the characters, story, and the project overall so please don’t feel to worried about this element too much)

If any assigned work is given, be sure to keep consistent updates with the Project Lead or any other support.

Keep all things related to the story, plot, characters, etc. strictly between the team and yourself. We’d like our work to remain secret and confidential to ensure spoilers aren’t given out.

Keep our project a positive environment for creativity, support, and memes. Any discourse or rude behavior will not be tolerated.

Requirements:

Fluency/advanced speaking and writing in English

Have a digital art program that can process PSD files or share files of work done (currently we use Procreate and Photoshop) 

Experience working on a digital art format.

Basic knowledge of anatomy, shading, and coloring in a digital art format.

We will not be bringing on anyone under the age of 16.

Access to Google or a Google account to access our shared Google Drive to create, edit, and move documents.

A history with art (can be previous fan-art, original art, or anything you artistically work on.)

Flexible scheduling to doing meetings with other team members or one on one meetings with the Project Lead.

Up to date on the Avatar lore, canon, and series. (You must have watched “The Legend of Korra”)

Self-motivated and open to collaborating

Open-mindset into growth and constructive criticism as well as giving constructive criticism.

Open to researching different topics and art styles related to cultural backgrounds and diverse topics that will relate to Vahni’s story.

Brownie Points:

Experience with 3D modeling, animation or storyboard work

Organizational skills

Knowledge of one or more languages (Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, etc.)

Flexible schedule and openness to meet

How do I apply? Great question!

First, fill out the written portion of the application here (it’s a short questionnaire for basic information). Next, we require you to email us a portfolio or any example artwork you may have, so we can get an idea of how you draw and get familiar with your work! Be sure to clarify who you are so we can link your first application with your samples! Email your work to [email protected].

What Happens After I Apply?

We will keep applications open for over 2 weeks to ensure everyone who wants to apply can! Once we narrow down who we feel would be a good fit for our project, we will email you back from the email you sent your portfolio with.

We will hold interviews over video chat via Zoom, and will ask any follow up questions we may have, but also just hang out and get familiar with one another!

After that, we will meet and decide who we feel is the best fit for our team! It’s a shorter amount of time to submit things than we have done in the past, but we’re in need of a fellow artist!

The interview will be held with the Project Lead, Kee.

Application deadline is March 31st at 11:59 PM (Central Time USA). We will not look at any late submissions.

The development team of “Legend of Vahni” is a diverse and nerdy group of friends who love to explore the world of Avatar and make memes. What is Vahni’s hair like? In the earlier designs it was a lot wavy, Is it straight now? Vahni is so pretty, it’s nice to see a more feminine Avatar in contrast to Korra’s very muscular tone.

What is Vahni’s morning hair routine

Yeah, her hair is straight now! And that was my goal, haha! (I mean to have a more feminine Avatar) Kyoshi and Korra really had more masculinity (which is TOTALLY FINE!) and I wanted to contrast that a bit with Vahni, who's a bit in between being masculine and feminine, but leans more into her feminine side.

Hmm... I'd say she washes it every other day, but uses a lot of treatment and hair masks. Vahni's very particular about skincare and hair care (Sun Warriors highly value hygiene and personal appearance - not for superficial reasons, it's just apart of their culture. Reputation and social appearances are really important to them) so I'd say she does quite a bit to upkeep it, especially since she grows it out.

Her hair routine is more like a bi-weekly thing. She does nights of haircare so like I'd assume she'd use a mask or some oil that she'd leave in over night and then wash it the next day. Every morning she probably just brushes it, maybe applies some all-natural product if she tries to style it (which she doesn't do often unless it's for a special occasion). I'd assume she has a pretty minimalistic haircare routine since she's not super passionate about physical labor (lol she's a little lazy) but she does care enough to put in a little effort.

i'd like to absolutely PRAISE you guys for uplifting the indigenous people in the avatarverse. there are too many comics that are throwing them to the slumbs for "plot reasons" and i'm so happy to see them thriving instead of hurting! (coming from an indigenous person - thank you!)

Thank you so much for this! I swear I have never felt more reassured over something like - ever! I especially have tried to focus more on that aspect of Vahni's story since she is an Indigenous person as well, so ensuring that angle of things has been so so so important.

I can't take all the credit, as I've made so many friends who are Indigenous who have helped me develop the cultures and identities for the story! I'm still learning (as a non-Indigenous person) and I'm just really happy that it's coming through well!

Here's a suggestion, what if Raava and Vaatu were supposed to exist as equal partners and not mortal enemies? Maybe they were a single being that was torn in half. I think it would be great if Vahni was able to act as a "bridge" between the 2 by merging with both of them. Can't get more balanced than that - can ya?

I think that defeats the purpose as the Avatar. Raava and Vaatu are separate beings. That's the point of them being opposites and balancing each other out. Merging them wouldn't inherently not be possible, it'd be like trying to merge the Moon and Ocean spirits, they need each other to exist. Merging them would not only bring what I would assume would be chaos, but it also wipes out the whole point of the world of AtLA.

That kind of merger would not only be pointless, but I also don't think it's possible because they need to exist separately or else everything else would be thrown out of balance. I'm not sure my brain could really comprehend the idea because there's like... no point in it. Why would you need to merge Raava and Vaatu when the whole point of their existences are to balance each other out solely because the other one exists?
