Surprises

A light rain coated the ground outside as tan unicorn mare paced the floor nervously. “this can’t be happening,” she thought to herself as she held a small stick in her magic. “What will he think?” her mind raced as it played out scenarios that did not end well for her or her heart. “Breath, just breath,” She took a deep breath and set herself on the couch as she thought about the night he had come home from his last tour. “How? We have been nothing but careful,” She sighed as she laid back. She blew a stray strand of her red mane from in front of her green eyes as she scowled at the elongated stick that held two small pink horizontal bands on one side. “Maybe this stupide thing is broken,” she huffed as she moved off the couch and grabbed another test.

After a good ten minutes of waiting for the new stick to show the results her stomach was already in knots. Finally, she looked and spotted the two pink lines once again and with a groan she slumped to the floor. “I guess that’s it then,” she felt tears start to build up in the corner of her eyes. “W-what if he leaves me?” Her brain raced as her heart pounded in her chest. “W-what if he runs off with another mare?” She started to shake as nerves got the better of her. “What if he stops loving me?” Her breaths came out in quick breaths.

Her ears perked up as she heard the front door open and close before a voice called out.

“Honey, I’m home!”

That voice made her heart skip a beat, not in a good way as it normally did, but now in a frightened and terrify way. “Why are you home so early!” She collected herself and stood, staring at the large grey batpony that stood in the entrance way to their house, his green eyes shown with concern as he approached her.

“Lemon, you alright dear?” He reached out to her and placed his hoof on her shoulder as he studied her face. “Have you been crying?”

Lemon nodded and simply floated the two tests over to him using her magic. His eyes studied them, his eyes growing wider as his jaw nearly hit the floor.

“G-Gemini, I am so sorry,” she whimpered as she waited for his rage and anger to crash against her like waves in a turbulent sea.

“What are you sorry for?… This is great news!” He chuckled as he pulled her into his embrace.

“Wait, what?” Lemon looked up in confusion to see a rather dopey smile on her lover’s face.

“I am going to be a dad.” He said in a dreamy voice as he planted little kisses on his mare’s face.

Lemon sighed in relief and nuzzled into Gemini’s chest as her tears turn from those of worry to ones of joy. “I can’t believe I ever doubted him,” she giggled as she felt him kissing and nuzzling at her. “I definitely married the right stallion,” she moved her muzzle up to meet his and shared a long kiss with him.

“We should make sure this is true though!” exclaimed as he picked her up and headed towards their bedroom.

“G-Gem no!” She shrieked in laughter as a wide smile rested upon her face.

A Surprise lunch.

A large dark grey bat pony stared out the window of the train as it pulled in to Trotting ham station, the old brick building was large and imposing to those who were new to the city, but to the bat pony, it was home. He smiled as the train came to stop and let it passengers out into the warm spring day.

“Gemini?” a portly chestnut brown earth pony asked as he helped unload bags from under the car. “Gemini, Sir where would you like all of this delivered?

The bat pony scanned his boxes of equipment and then turned to his bandmates. “Have them sent to Midnight Records please.” Gemini smiled as he tipped the earth pony and readjusted the guitar slung across his back. Gemini trotted down the street calling out goodbyes to his bandmates as they each went their own ways. “let’s see, Sweet has the kids, I don’t need to unpack anything and I won’t need to be at the studio until tomorrow night.” He grinned a toothily grin as the changed course and headed deeper into the city itself with only one destination in mind.

    The walk took longer than usual as Gemini had decided to stop at a flower shop and a local bakery to pick up some things that he knew his wife would love. Soon enough He found himself in front of a squat brick building with a sign that read Thea’s Sweet Tea Shop. He smiled as he stepped inside, his senses were immediately assaulted with the low murmur of conversations and the smell of the spices used to make and brew the tea. Behind the counter stood a slender unicorn who had rich clay-colored mane and tail while her coat was a beautiful shade of tan. Her deep green eyes turned from her till to Gemini’s own green eyes as she smiled and blushed a bit.

“G-gem, I-I thought you w-were going to be home later.” She said as she walked around the counter and gently kissed him.

“I was, but we had to move the show time to an hour earlier so we finished earlier.” He kissed her back before embracing her causing both of their wedding rings to clink softly together. “I missed you Lemon.” He cooed as they took a seat in an open booth.

Lemon smiled back and held onto the hoof that Gemini had placed on the table. “I-I missed y-you too.” She leaned in and nuzzled him before she noticed the flowers and food he had placed on the table. “G-Gem. A-are those for m-me?”

“I figured I would surprise my wife with her favorite pastries and flowers.” Gemini beamed at her as he placed his guitar down and kissed her before they started to eat.

“K-keep this up m-mister and I-I won’t b-be the only one getting a sur-surprise.” Lemon winked at her husband before leaning in for one last kiss.

Gemini blushed as he held his wife’s kiss for a few seconds more. “who thought lips could be so soft.” He thought as he pulled back and ate a surprise lunch with the mare who had always been and would continue to be his entire world.

fatherly advice.

The light sound of a guitar wafted from a brown two-story house that rested at the end of its block. Inside a young unicorn, Colt sat on his bed with an old toy guitar as he mindlessly plucked at the strings.

“That’s not it either.” He huffed as the skin under his tan coat started to turn red with frustration.

He again picked up the guitar and tried to play a few cords before one of the strings snapped.

“Ugh, I can’t do it!” he seethed as he threw the guitar down and laid back on his bed in a huff.

“You are trying to force it.” A voice said from his doorway startling the young colt.

“D-dad?” He said as he looked up at the big gray bat pony that was scanning him with dragon-like green eyes.

“You are trying to force the music onto the page and that will never work.” The bat pony said as he moved to sit next to his son. “Sweet, music is like emotions… you can’t make yourself feel something that isn’t there.”

Sweet looked up at his father and nodded in understanding as his dad’s wing gently pulled him close.

“Now, tell me why you want this to happen so badly?” His father said as nuzzled sweets head.

“I-I want to show everypony what I can do on the first day of school… I have a music class and I want to impress them.” Sweet twiddled his hooves as he refused to meet his father’s gaze.

His father let out a soft sigh as he shook his head. “Sweet, never make a song just to impress another. You will only turn what you love into something you will hate.”

Sweet nodded and leaned against his father. “I’m sorry dad.”

The bat pony nodded before his eyes went wide and he suddenly jumped up and rushed down the hall, only to return a brief time later with a beat-up case in hoof. “I think it’s about time you had your own instrument to use.”

Sweet’s eyes widen as he took the case in his magic and opened it to reveal as beautiful six string guitar. Sweet let out a light gasp as his eyes roved over the perfectly polished black wood and the silver inlays there were evenly spaced up the neck.

“That was my very first guitar, your grandmother got it for me when I was about your age… at that time we were pretty poor and she wanted to make sure that I could always have something that made me happy even if we couldn’t afford much else.” A small tear slid down his father cheek as he smiled fondly.

“Dad I- I don’t know what to say.” Sweet’s eyes started to burn a bit as tears started to build.

“Just promise me you will take care of it.” His dad cleared his throat and put on a smile. “Now let’s see if we can’t figure out what your heart wants to write.

And for the second time that night the sounds of a guitar could be heard throughout the neighborhood, only this time they held an air of confidence.

The fight

This tour had been a long one and Gemini was more than ready to head back home and see the love of his life once again. The large bat pony smiled as he thought about what awaited him when he walked through the door and hugged his wife. “I miss her so much.” He sighed as he trotted to the train station to catch the last train to Trottingham. “Should I bring back flowers?” he pondered as he passed by a small flower stand that had a small arrangement of roses sitting front in center. Gemini paused and smiled as he went ahead and bought the roses and a nice vase to go with it.

The train ride to Trottingham was uneventful and Gemini soon found himself outside of his house which curiously had its lights still on even though it was well past midnight. Gemini shrugged and opened the door expecting his wife Lemon to be up eagerly awaiting him. What he found was not exactly what he had expected, she was up but the look on her face was one he had only seen once and it was the one that had got him to stop drinking.

“L-love is everything alright?” Gemini cocked his head to the side as he placed the roses and vase on the table and approached her.

“D-d-don’t l-love m-me mister” Lemon spat as she glared at him.

“Lemon I-I’m sorry I’m home late, the train was delayed a bit.” He stared at her confused as Lemon growled up at him.

“W-what e-ever.” She turned her back on him.  “I-I thought I-I was enough f-for you.” Lemon’s voice cracked a bit as she started to cry.

“W-what do you mean? Lemon what happened?” Gemini began to panic as his mind raced to find the thing he had messed up.

Lemon said nothing before throwing a folder of pictures at him, Gemini bent down and examined each one. They all showed the same thing; it was of him entering different hotels along the tour stop.

“How many?” Lemon demanded.

“How many what?” Gemini asked still confused.

“H-how m-many d-did you s-sleep with?!” She was grinding her teeth now as Gemini struggled to keep up.

“N-none, I-I haven’t slept with anyone since y-you and I-I slept together last month.” Gemini was not getting angry as he realized what she was implying.

“That’s a-a load o-of horse apples!” Lemon spat back at him

“No! Accuse me is a load of horse apples!” Gemini growled as he bared his fangs on reflex. Gemini couldn’t believe that she even doubted him after all they had been through together. “H-how dare you even think I would ever do anything like that to you… you know I love you.” He chided.

“I-I thought y-you did t-too.” Lemon’s eyes went wide as soon as those words had left her mouth and her hoof shot up to try and muffle what she had said but it was too late, Gemini had heard it and all the traces of anger inside him were gone, replaced only with a cold emptiness.

“I-I see…” He trailed off as those words dug deeper into his heart. He tried to blink away the blurry sting of tears as he turned away from Lemon and ran off into the night ignore her as she called for him to come back.

           Gemini ran for what seemed like an eternity before he ended up in a place he really never thought he’d ever come back to. He gazed around at all the ponies with glasses in their hooves and looks ranging from happiness to bitterness plaster all over their faces.

“What can I get ya?” The orange stallion behind the bar asked as he idly cleaned a glass.

“Whatever you have that is strong.” Gemini sighed. “I’m trying to forget.”

“Mare problems?” The stallion asked as he poured a bit of brown liquid into a glass sitting in front of Gemini.

“I just… how could she think that I would hurt her or leave her? I mean we’ve been through so much together.” Gemini sighed as he stared at the drink.

“Maybe she needs to know how much she means to you.” The stallion offered. “Listen I’m sure you have a job that requires travel right?” Gemini nodded. “Well then it’s probably hard on her knowing you are so far away, she may have doubts and she may need you to help her”

Gemini perked up and smiled. “Thank you… I have something to fix.”

           The house was just as he had left it when he had ran away from the pony he loved with all his heart.

“Lemon? Lemon you home?” Gemini strained his ears to see if he could her here and it didn’t take too long until he heard what sounded like sobbing. Following the noise Gemini eventually found Lemon hunched over in the living room shaking with her back to him.

“Lemo-“He didn’t even get out her full name before she launched herself at him and buried her face in his chest.

“G-Gemini, I-I’m s-so s-s-sorry.” She sobbed. “I-I k-know y-you love m-me a-and w-wouldn’t d-do that.”

Gemini held her and laid on his back so that she could rest on top of him.

“Hush love.” He cooed sweetly as he stared into her beautiful green eyes. “I’m sorry I worried you and that ran out on you, I love you with all of my heart and would gladly give up music for you.” He smiled and held her as she sniffled for a bit before looking back up at him.

“G-Gemini, I-I love you.”

“I love you t-“He was interrupted by her lips pressing against his and with a content sigh he pushed into the kiss. When they finally pulled apart Lemon rested her ear on his chest and smiled as they both drifted off to sleep.

Morning love.

Sun light streamed in from an open window bathing the ponies in bed in its golden warmth. The larger of the two, a gunmetal grey bat pony softly stirred as he cracked open one of his green eyes and blew a strand of his black and red tipped mane out of his face as he raised his head to look down upon the mare that was currently nestled in to his chest. Her tan coat glowed under the early morning light and a mane the color of deep red clay covered the content smile that graced her lips as she snuggled against the love of her life. The bat pony smiled as he softly nuzzled her awake.

“Lemon, it’s time to get up my love.” He spoke softly as Lemon started to stir.

She looked up at him with a small smile and beautiful green eyes before she slowly moved in for a good morning kiss, which the bat pony returned happily.

“G-good morning Gemini my dear.” She yawned as they both sat up in bed and slowly woke up while they embraced.

Before long they both found themselves sharing as shower as they took turns getting at areas the other couldn’t reach while also enjoying the other ponies company under the stream of warm water.

Gemini slowly trotted into the kitchen as he enjoyed the relaxed feeling that only the warm water could’ve provided, his eyes went wide as an egg almost found its way onto his face as his wife absentmindedly hovered it in her magic as she made them both pancakes.

“I thought eggs went into the bowl and not on someponies face.” He chuckled as Lemon blushed and playfully glared at him.

“K-keep it up mister and y-you will be making your o-own breakfast.” Lemon giggled as Gemini slid up next to her and kissed her on the cheek.

“Do you really want to see the kitchen burn down?” He put a wing to his chest in a feigned feeling of surprise. “I didn’t know I had a little fire bug on my hooves.”

Lemon rolled her eyes and kissed her husband before smirking. “Well you don’t seem to complain in bed.”

Gemini blushed and made a quick retreat to the table while he tried to keep his wings under control. Soon after he had managed to gain some control of his body Lemon came over with a stack of pancakes and hash browns and both ponies at in a peaceful and content silence as they needed no words to express the love that was in the air today.

“So, your brother has the kids till the afternoon and we have the rest of the morning… how should we spend it?” Gemini asked as he smiled at his wife.

Lemon smirked causing her lover to blush. “I-I can think of a f-few ways to kill the time.” She let her eyes drop and put a sultry smile on her face. “B-besides I b-believe that I-I owe some stallion a hearts and hooves day gift.”

Gemini’s face turned red at her implications as he smiled. “Well I do believe that we both have gifts to share then.” He smiled as he pulled out a large box and chocolates and a dozen roses. “Happy hearts and hooves day my love.”

Lemon smiled and kissed Gemini deeply and passionately as breakfast was quickly forgotten and both ponies retired to the bedroom to enjoy each others company more closely.

The start of something great.

The air in the church was warm and heavy as ponies sat quietly waiting for the ceremony to start. Next to a raised podium stood a tall bat pony whose normally messy black and red mane was now slicked back. He reached a hoof up to mess with the bowtie around his neck wincing a bit as the stiff suit hugging his body pulled on his coat a bit. He knew looked ridiculous and that he probably looked like he was about the throw up. He jumped when he felt a hoof rest on his shoulder.

“Gemini, it’s all right trust me.” Said a dark rust red unicorn.

Gemini was taken by surprise with how gentle Sweet Tea was being, after all he had hated Gemini for most if not all of the time Gemini had been dating Sweet’s younger sister.

“T-thanks Sweet.” Gemini took a deep breath and stared at the door that Lemon would be coming out of when the ceremony starts. “What if… what if she doesn’t want to do this?”

“She does Gemini, Lemon loves you to the moon and back and when you proposed to her she nearly had a heart attack from sheer joy.” Sweet chuckled. “So trust me she wants this.”

Just as he was about to reply, Gemini was interrupted by the sound of organ music as the doors at the far end of the isles swung open to reveal Lemon in a stunning white gown that flowed with her every step as she approached the podium. Gemini’s breath caught in his throat as he looked over Lemon who blushed at the attention.

“You look beautiful.” He whispered making his loves blush grow deeper.

The sound of a clearing throat caused Gemini to look up at the priest as he began the ceremony. To Gemini it was all noise as his mind was focused on the mare in front of him, He sadly was ripped from this focus as the priest tapped him on the shoulder.

“Gemini do you have the rings?”

Gemini nodded and placed a silver chain with a beautiful ring hanging from it onto Lemon’s neck as she did the same for him.

“Mr. Gemini, do you take Lemon Wedge to be your lawful wedded wife in good times and bad, in sickness and health till death do you part?”

“I-I do.” Gemini mentally cursed himself for tripping over his own words.

“Do you Lemon Wedge, Take Gemini to be your lawful wedded husband in good times and bad, in sickness and in health till death do you part?”

“I-I d-do” Lemon stammered as she blushed.

“You may now kiss the bride.”

Gemini smiled as his lips met lemons as they shared as deep passionate kiss.

A Bat’s lullaby.

The night was still as a large grey bat pony slept soundly next to his loving and beautiful unicorn wife. Her back was pressed into his chest and his arms were locked around her body, but as they slept one of the houses other inhabitants began to stir before he let out a startled cry.

“G-gemini, can you p-pleas go check o-on that?” The mare whispered drowsily.

“Of course love.” Gemini kissed her cheek and slipped out of bed. He walked down the dark hall until he came to a simple white door with a treble cleft on the door. He silently slipped into the room and turned on the small lamp on the nightstand, with the light illumining the room Gemini could see a small shape shaking under the blankets. Slowly he pulled the mass out from under the blankets until he was holding a small tan unicorn foal in his arms.

“Treble it’s okay, it’s just a bad dream.” Gemini cooed softly as he rocked the foal back and forth while he gently nuzzled his cheek.

“Dada s-sing?” Treble looked up at him with pleading green eyes.

Gemini smiled and nodded. “Of course my little man.” He cleared his throat and sang a soothing tune.

Shadows danced along the walls as the light from a candle illuminated a small table and the two ponies sitting at it. The larger of the two was a male bat pony with a dark grey coat and a black mane and tail that sported red tips. His green dragon like eyes were filled with happiness as he talked to the smaller unicorn mare in front of him. He looked her over smiling at the way her red mane was coving part of her face and how her tail flicked back and forth ever so often. Her green eyes shone with love for the bat pony across from her, his messy spiked mane made him all the cuter to her.

“Are you enjoying your dinner love?” The bat pony asked as he folded his napkin onto his plate.

The mare nodded as she swallowed; the movement showed off part of her black dress that was draped beautifully over her small frame and tan coat. “T-thank you Gem for taking me out.”

Gemini smiled and put some bits on the table as the waiter came by and started to clean up the plates and glasses. “Nothing’s too good for my wife.”  He winked at her and gently took her outstretched hoof into his own. “I love you Lemon.” He smiled and helped her get up before leading her out of the restaurant.

The night air was crisp and a tad on the cold side, but it didn’t bother the couple as they made their way home.

“S-so what else should we do tonight?” Lemon asked as she leaned against Gemini as they trotted down the busy street.

“Whatever you want my dear.” Gemini draped his wing across her back as he felt the heat of her body pressed up against him. “Your brother has our kids so I am all yours tonight.”

Lemon smiled and kissed Gemini deeply before heading inside their home with an alluring flick of her tail.

Memories.

Steam and the sound of running water filled the small bathroom as a large dark gray bat pony stood under the shower head letting the warm water ease his tense muscles. His mind drifted off as he reminisced over the year that had just passed and what a year it had been. He had found the love of his life and she had done what at one time he would of thought impossible, she had saved him and had helped him slowly close the hole in his heart that had been slowly killing him for years. He smiled at the memory of the first night they met, the night they walked her friend home from the bar that he had been performing at to earn bits. He thought back at the looks her brother had given him when they first met, heck her brother still hated him. Then his smile faded when he remember the night he had drank himself half to death in a fit of sorrow and rage over his childhood. She had stayed up all night crying by his side while he had been in the hospital and to this day she won’t let him near alcohol. He was startled out of his thoughts by the feeling of hooves wrapping around his waist and a muzzle burying itself into his lower back.

The pony took a deep breath as they breathed in his scent and then sighed contently in a way that only one mare could do.

“Good morning sleepy head.” He cooed to the much smaller mare.

“M-morning Gemini.” She mumbled still half asleep.

His heart skipped a beat at the sound of her voice saying his name even if she had mumbled it, it was still the most beautiful sound to him. Gemini moved his body so that he was now also holding his little yellow mare in his arms.

“Lemon, dear you can sleep a little longer if you need to.” He smiled down at her and blushed at the sight of her red mane soaked with water.

She just shook her head and kissed him before resting her head on his stomach. “C-can we just stay l-like this for a little?” She pleaded.

And with one more kiss Gemini held his lover in his arms as they let the morning slip away.

Everything was still as the large grey bat pony trotted through the front door of a cozy little house. He sighed as he dropped his pair of saddlebags near the door and made his way up stairs to the only closed door in the place. I hope she didn’t stay up to wait for me. He thought as he rested his hoof on the brass handle while the other rested against the dark oak panels of said door. Taking a deep breath he pushed forward silently before slipping into the pitch black room shutting the door carefully behind him. As he scanned the room he could just make out the sleeping form of another pony in his bed and with a smile he pulled back the covers and slid in behind the mare as she slept.

“G-Gemini, you’re home?” The mare asked sleepily.

“Yes love I am.” Gemini nuzzled the back of her head as his forelegs wrapped around her chest.

“I-I was worried.” She turned to look at him with her beautiful green eyes that were partially covered by her red mane.

Gemini smiled and kissed her before holding her close to his chest. “I know and I’m sorry Lemon.”

Lemon only smiled and sighed happily into her husband’s embrace. “I-its o-ok, j-jus promise m-me that you will be mine tomorrow.”

Gemini looked down at her and smiled. “I promise with all my heart love.” He leaned his head down and kissed her one last time before they fell asleep in each other’s embrace.
