Accident and Emergency
On a wednesday evening we sat,
a waiting room filled with pain and anguish
Bleeding hearts and broken ribs,
souls burning with the heat of longing for normality again.
On a wednesday evening we sat,
your arm wrapped around my shoulders
my head nestled in the warm safe space between your heart and your brain,
but no comfort would come
for the restlessness of my beating heart syncopated the rhythm of yours.
On a wednesday evening we sat,
and it was then i knew that the pain in my chest,
the syncopated rhythm of my restless heart
could not be fixed by the doctors that sat on the other side of those waiting room walls.
