“So this random dude texted me ‘Hulu and hang?’ and, like —— am I missing something? Is that the new ‘Netflix and Chill’ or is he just being extra weird? Or maybe he just doesn’t have Netflix…”
“It could be worse. He could’ve gone with Pirate Bay and Ass Play.”
“Oh! Excuse me. I was given an extra burger that I definitely won’t eat. Would you like it? I didn’t touch it, and there’s no condiments on it at all.”
“Free burgers... what’s the catch?”

“You caught me. I’m desperately in love with Silas Blackwood,” he rolled his eyes. “What does that make you, the beard?”
“I said you’re in love. Doesn’t mean it’s reciprocal. Besides,” she shrugged, “he hates everyone equally. Maybe he wants to fuck all genders equally too.”

“There’s a simple solution to that.” John waited a beat. “Stop coming over.”
“You’re too defensive when it comes to Silas. I think you’re secretly in love.” She put her hands in the pockets of her shorts. “Brokeback Hobos. Hobo Homo’s?”

Margo laughed quietly as she moved to lie back down next to Lena, shaking her head. The Aquarium was the one thing that kept her sane these days. If it wasn’t for being able to completely drown herself in Marine Biology, then what would she do? “I’m not looking for a new job right now, but it’s good to know that I could be earn money by massaging people.”
Closing her eyes with a satisfied sigh, she shook her head. “You know, you’d get much more money with that than I ever could. Your hands truly work magic.”
“Sure you can. Ever heard of a happy ending?” Lena smirked, relaxing once Margo had moved away. The sun felt good against her skin and with the other girl beside her, the afternoon was sure to get away with them. It wasn’t so bad. That was the perk of working nights at the bar and elsewhere on her own terms -- the days were all her own, with no one to answer to.
“Hey.” She pushed herself up onto her elbows. “If you could do anything in the world, what would it be?”
silasblackwood:
His gaze drifted, avoiding talking to anyone and least of all whatever waitress ended up having their table as he watched the marina in the distance and knew all the work that he still had left in the day and how little he wanted to return to it. Even if it meant being around others, there was part of him that preferred it that way if it could be a good distraction – even if it meant being around Lena who had a personal vendetta against him to figure out how to make him have a good time that wasn’t dowsed in alcohol or her legs around his waist.
He snorted when she spoke again, turning to meet her gaze before he leaned back in the booth and wished instantly that they’d lucked out in finding a table outside and on the deck, closer to the beach and away from the sounds inside that he could almost always hear over his own thoughts. “Or something.”
Lena didn’t need Silas’ participation to have a conversation or to have a good time. She was plenty adept at keeping herself entertained and went about doing so, leaning over him to grab the sugar and cream for Silas’ side of the table once their drinks arrived. She knew how he took his coffee too, and once she’d so kindly fixed it for him, she pushed the mug towards him. “Here. This should do something about that mood, however microscopic.” Lena pressed her lips to his cheek with a loud smack.
She’d finished two mimosas before their food arrived. “Keep them coming, dollface.” Picking up her cutlery, Lena dug in. “Hey, there’s that waitress I was talking about. Cute, right?”

“Should I be gagging every time I see you so the message is more clear. Personally,” he mocked, “I think you’ve contracted some sort of disease and I should stay away.”
“Pot. Kettle. Black.” She grinned, taking a step back from him now. “If I’ve contracted any diseases, it’s from your cesspit of a home.”
silasblackwood:
What he’d done to deserve her company, he knew it had more to do with her than with him as most anyone that’d been around him for longer than a few hours couldn’t stand to be around him any longer. There was only a handful of people that felt otherwise and he couldn’t explain why they were still around, much less actively seek him out when what he put forth was all they were going to get - Lena included as he watched her wait for him to finish up just off the boat. With his things stowed away, not even giving a word to the manager, he followed her towards the cafe in silence ( just the way he preferred it if he didn’t have a drink in hand ) before they were settled at a small booth off to the side, away from most everyone else.
In the past year, Lena had become familiar with every inch of Costa del Sol. Sea Breeze Cafe was no exception. It was a humble, no frills sort of place, serving breakfast and lunch to those who wanted simple food and a view of the ocean as they ate. The pair had compromised on seating, the booth tucked away off to the side but still located out on the decking so that the salt breeze washed over them.
When the waitress came to get their orders, Lena spoke for both of them. “Mimosa for me. Corpse Reviver for this one, and a black coffee. If you don’t know how to make it, I can show you.” With alcohol out of the way, she continued to reel off their meal orders to the girl and leaned back with a sigh once she’d scurried off. “I’m too good to you. I should be canonised or something.”
margovandcren:
“You’re right. Why are you always right?” Margo smirked with a shake of her head, often feeling as if Lena was much better at understanding the world than her. Sitting up once she made sure her bikini top was in place, she picked up the sun lotion, put some of it into the palm of her hand and then started to warm it up a little. “Fair warning that this will be nowhere as good as your back rub.” She added with a smirk before she leaned over Lena’s body to be able to place her hands on her back.
Her touches were rather cautious, as they usually were with other people, but with time she warmed up to the movements and started to massage the lotion into her soft skin with some more force behind her movements, making sure to spread it out nicely. “There you go.”
Lena didn’t know everything, but what she did know was on account of having to grow up too soon. Her actions may have appeared reckless, but there was a plan behind each of them. High risk yielded high reward, and Lena had become well adept at handling dangerous situations -- in sweet talking her way in, and using her wits for her subtle exit.
She kept still, her eyes closed. “You’re not so bad. A little more force behind your fingertips and you could consider an alternate career, if the Aquarium thing didn’t work out.”

“You’re full of shit, anyone ever tell you that,” John spat, turning his head back towards the water. Not that he’d actually wanted her to trade her apartment for Mako Manor. In another life, John would have been appalled by the fact that he was staying there in the first place, but this life was meant to be different. In any case, his residence was made a little bit better, if nothing else, by the fact that Lena wasn’t there permanently.
“Eh, once or twice.” Her whole lifestyle was based on just how full of shit she was, and how good she was at it. When she’d first turned up in town, she’d avoided residence in Mako Manor thanks to the hospitality of a kind (unsuspecting) family who had rented out their spare room in Costa Cove. Within a month and a half, she’d saved up enough money to make the move to the apartments downtown. “Personally, I think you like me and you’re too afraid to admit it.”
johnathanhathaway:
“You’re a child,” John said after jumping back. In his old life, he might have even gotten a restraining order against her, but John preferred to keep himself out of the eyes of law enforcement these days. “You do have a better house, which is why you should go to that one instead and stay there.”
“What can I say?” She heaved a sigh and traded it for a smirk, the kind that spelled no good for anyone. “I prefer living it rough. Think it gives a person character,” she hesitated, cocking her chin, “well, in most cases.”
margovandcren:
“Right, that’s definitely true. Girls are more beautiful too. What do we even need men for?” Margo chuckled, a question she had asked herself forever ago, and especially the night she first made out with a woman. Losing her virginity to somebody of the female sex seemed less intimidating, less threatening even – but rather like something that could be nice. Still, it sometimes felt as if she still had miles to go until she would ever be able to leave that part of herself behind her. “Effortless and me are two things that don’t fit together all that well.” She said with a mumble.
Another quiet chuckle left her lips as she felt the slap to her skin, before rolling back around and looking up at Lena. “Want me to repay the favor? I don’t want you to get a sunburn on your back.”
“To make fools of for sport. Other than that, they’re mostly useless.” She propped herself up on an elbow, grinning over at the brunette. To anyone who knew her, it seemed as if Lena de la Cruz hadn’t a care in the world. Had they known the truth, perhaps that would have changed their opinions -- but Lena didn’t want sympathy unless she was feigning weakness for her own gain. Life threw you curveballs and other times in sledge-hammered you like a bitch. The point was that either way, you had to get back up.
“Sure.” She rearranged herself into the same position Margo had assumed and rested her head beneath her folded arms. Like that, both of her tattoos were visible -- the beaded design on her shoulder always visible, but the rarely exposed moon etched into her inner arm peeking out.

“Is it the sexy kind of bad or just bad bad? Either is fine but I’m trying my best to get sexier.” Margo chuckled just as she did what Lena asked, turning around onto her front side and pulling her hair aside over her shoulders. “Yeah, I probably owe you for helping me find my true self. And the full potential thing.” She smirked, slowly closing her eyes. Her back was tense from the constant emotional stress that came with the fact of being a virgin at twenty-five, constantly hooking up with strangers, and trying to be good at work despite hangovers at the same time.
She couldn’t remember the last time anyone put their hands on her in such an innocent yet pleasurable way, and a soft sigh left her lips as Lena’s fingers massaged the lotion into her skin. “Hm”, she hummed quietly, smiling as she glanced over at the other woman. “Feels very good. You’re a natural.”
“You’re sexy. I mean, girls are just sexier naturally. It’s a blessing and a curse.” Lena’s fingers were talented in more ways than one. After all, massage parlours were great places to play the game -- everyone was far too relaxed, too preoccupied by their own self indulgence to notice their wallets had been lifted before it was too late. “But you don’t have to try. The whole point is about it being effortless.”
At that, the blonde grinned. “Like I said. Effortless.” With that, she gave the other girl’s bum a playful slap before retreating.
margovandcren:
“I’m not mean. I think you have a great skin tone, if that makes you feel better at all.” After all Margo wasn’t the most tan person herself. Fortunately she didn’t have to bother with sun burns that often, but if she lay out on the beach for a few hours without refreshing her sun screen, she had the same problem as most people. “You did? Oh, I remember my roommate in college had the same problem once. Fell asleep with her hand on her stomach. You could still see her fingers weeks later.” She chuckled, remembering how funny that looked.
Opening one eye to glance up at Lena, an amused smirk took over her lips as she raised an eyebrow. “Do me?” She echoed, putting a doubled meaning behind the words before she broke into laughter. “Yes, please. Do me.”
“You’re bad,” Lena declared. “I like it. Actually, I think it’s my positive effect on you.” As she spoke, she squeezed more lotion onto her hands and warmed it in her palms. “Helping you realise your full potential and all.” She gestured with a finger for Margo to lie on her front and pull her hair aside. With nimble fingers, she undid the girl’s bikini strap and began massaging the lotion into her back.
She was in no rush. So sure, the day hadn’t proved as fruitful as she’d hoped, but she could rely on hapless drunks at the bar to assume they’d blown thirty bucks on booze when they woke up the next morning. Besides, there were other ways to strike lucky. Her hands drifted lower, thumbs working in circles at Margo’s lower spine. “Feel okay?”

When Lena stepped forward, John stepped back. John was never good at letting people close, but Lena brought a new definition to the concept. “Don’t you have a home,” he shook his head. “You’re lucky I don’t charge you, you know, with how often you steal our food.”
She laughed, leaping forward this time just to make him jump. “I have a nicer home than yours,” she wasn’t one to brag having come from more than modest means herself, but any method to wind him up was worth using. Lena rocked back on her heels. “C’mon. That would require more math than your job gives you practice of.”
silasblackwood:
Silas grit his teeth, pinching the bridge of his nose when he moved away and off the boat, leaving him with one of two options would be to stick around and have to deal with customers for the rest of the day with his hangover or he could skip out on all of it and only have to deal with Lena who wasn’t all bad all the time. For some reason she’d latched onto him and hadn’t been deterred as time passed and she came face to face with the worst of his days and nights, finding the humor that he couldn’t as he watched her move through the world like it was all a game to her. Maybe it was or maybe he was wrong, Silas shook his head and picked himself up as he brushed off his jeans and started towards the edge of the boat. “I’ll go if I don’t have to talk to anyone because I’m not in the mood to deal with anyone right now.” Or ever.
Lena saw him as a challenge, which for Silas, was most likely the worst possible outcome. She was determined to crack through his Suffering Fallen Hero demeanour, and stubborn enough to see it through. She mimicked him when his head was ducked. In all the time she’d know him, each interaction had only solidified what she now understood as fact. Silas Blackwood was by far the most miserable twenty-something she’d ever met, and the only time she’d heard his compliment anything, it was to do with alcohol. “Deal,” she said, taking off once he’d finished up. The cafe wasn’t too far from the marina and when they arrived, she’d have the pleasure of ordering for him -- since he didn’t want to talk to anyone and all. Lena kept her end of the deal, humming quietly to herself as they walked side by side.

A grin spread over Margo’s lips as Lena agreed, and in turn pulled off her own shirt. Margo had grown up knowing nothing but to run around in her bathing suit all day, and that still hadn’t changed. She thought her bikinis to be much more comfortable than normal underwear anyway. Pulling her tank top up over her head, she dropped it onto the wooden slates next to her before leaning back to lie down next to Lena with a quiet sigh. There was nothing better than to feel the sun on her skin.
“It’s great.” She corrected Lena, before picking up her bag to rummage through it. Usually she always had some sunscreen with her, and today was no different. Pulling it out, she handed it over to Lena. “Here. I’d hate for you to burn your precious skin.”
“Hey, don’t be mean. Some of us aren’t mermaids impervious to the big bad sun’s burn.” Despite her Spanish-Cuban roots, Lena had spent many a day laying out on the beach only to discover a flush of sunburn across her nose and cheeks that persisted and the areas she hadn’t lathered up sore. “Y’know, once I fell asleep on Las Olas beach with my phone on my stomach. The mark didn’t go away for three weeks.”
She began to rub the lotion into her skin, untying her bikini top to make sure she covered all bases. Then she turned to Margo, placing a hand on her thigh to capture her attention. “Want me to do you?”
