   theo was minding his own business, when suddenly he heard the familiar voice coming from the bathroom. to his surprise, he turned around just to see his little sister poking her head from the door, looking nervous as hell and was desperate for help. “ what did you do this time? ” he said as he barged in to help his sister. as he got in he quickly scanned her from head to toe, what was she even wearing, was the first thought that went through his head. It was rather uncomfortable seeing his sister looking like this. “ Geez who let you go out like this, Carla? ”  

            she  hadn’t  quite  recognised  her  brother  when  she’d  called  out  to  him ,  to  anyone ,  to  help  her  but  carla  was  glad  it  was  theo  she  had  found  in  her  hour  of  need .  a  touch  startled  when  her  barged  into  the  bathroom  she  stumbled  backwards  teetering  slightly  on  too  tall  heels .  “  i  can’t  get  this  skirt  to  sit  right ,  i  think  i  might  need  to  remake  it ,  ”  she  explained ,  rolling  her  eyes  at  her  brothers  comment  she  chose  to  ignore  it ,  instead  continuing  on  with  her  dire  situation .  “  i  think  i  might  need  to  redo  the  entire  thing !  or  can  it  be  fixed ?  i  don’t  want  to  have  to  send  you  to  pinch  me  some  more  saran  wrap  if  i  don’t  have  to ,  ”

            it  was  a  basic  enough  costume  idea ,  a  saran  wrap  crop top  and  mini  skirt   (  not  too  short  )  ,  but  despite  the  overplayed  nature  of  her  ensemble  carla  was  convinced  she  looked  good ,  as  always .  but  she  hadn’t  quite  thought  through  the  entire  costume ,  a  problem  encountered  when  trying  to  put  herself  back  together  after  a  quick  bathroom  break .  try  as  she  might  she  couldn’t  quite  get  the  makeshift skirt  to  look  perfect  again . cracking  the  door  she  stuck  her  head  out ,  trying  to  catch  someones  attention .  “  you  wouldn’t  mind  helping  a  damsel  in  distress ,  would  ya ?  ”

carla lucy lennox was everything her father wanted in a daughter .  soft ,  sweet  and  obliging ,  she  was  bright  but  not  too  smart .  as  smart  as  she  needed  to  be  he  said .  intelligent enough  to  hold  an  entertaining  conversation  she’d  be  a  perfect  hostess  like  her  mother  someday ,  intelligent  enough  to  know  when  to  hold  her  tongue   seen  and  not  heard  .  but  above  it  all  she  was ,  and  is ,  pretty .  picture  perfect

mommys  little  girl ,  daddys  little  angel ,  with  her  blonde  curls  and  headbands  and  big  green  eyes ,  carla  slotted  perfectly  into  the  role  her  family   her  father   wanted  her  to  fill .  she  was  a  future  trophy  wife  in  the  making .  and  carla  loved  it .  

who  wouldn’t  want  to  be  cared  for ,  seen  as  beautiful ,  loved ,  placed  up  on  that  pedestal  like  that  china  doll  her  father  made  her  out  to  be ?  kept  in  money  and  extravagance ?  to  that  naive  little  girl ,  always  so  eager  to  please ,  she  couldn’t  see  anything  better  than  to  slot  right  into  the  role  others  laid  out  for  her ,  couldn’t  see  the  discontent  it  caused  even  in  her  own  family .  she’d  never  been  allowed  to  think  these  things  through  for  herself ,  why  would  she  start  now ?

carla  was  outgoing ,  charming  even ,  just  as  she  ought  to  be ,  but  family  came  first .  she  was  a  lennox  before  she  was  carla  and  it  was  a  lesson  she  took  to  heart .  family  first .  she  was  always  there  for  her  mother ;  from  the  tiny  girl  peeking  out  from  behind  her  skirts  to  the  young  woman  standing  at  her  side  to  welcome  guests .  she  was  there  when  ever  her  father  called  upon  her ;  from the giggling  child  to  the  young  girl  with  the  perfect  smile  for  the  family  photos .  and  while  her  eldest  brother  had  never  been  much  of  a  companion  to  her ,  theo  had  been  a  best  friend  to  her  for  as  long  as  she  could  remember .  until  he  wasn’t .

lost  and  confused  for  maybe  the  first  time  in  her  young  life  carla  turned  it  into  a  determination  to  never lose  anyone  again .  clinging  to  everyone  in  her  life  in  a  way  she  hadn’t  before .  she  didn’t  like  to  be  alone ,  couldn’t  stand  it ,  so  she  never  would  again .

and  then  came  young  love . it  was  carla’s  first  boyfriend  and  she  felt  sure  he  would  be  her  last .  they  were  perfect  for  each  other ;  they  looked  good  together ,  were  completely  smitten  with  each  other  and  even  better  —  their  families  thought  they  were  perfect  too .

by  the  time  her  senior  year  came  around  carla  was  entirely  devoted  to  the  boy ; they  had  a  five  year  plan  and  she’d  do  anything  for  him .  they’d  go  to  KHU  together ,  like  their  parents  had  done .  four  years  at  college  together ,  an  education  carla  would  never  really  need  but  at  the  end  of  it  they’d  be  married  and  she’d  have  the  life  she  dreamed  of .  there  was  never  a  ring ,  that  would  come  in  a  year  or  two  but  the  girl  was  content .  he’d  never  betray  her .  not  when  she’d  do  anything  for  him .  not  when  she  did  something  unspeakable  for  him .

she’d  always  been  a  touch  naive  but  she  never  saw  the  warning  signs   maybe  there  hadn’t  even  been  any   but  not  too  long  ago  her  boyfriend  broke  up  with  her .  just  slid  out  of  her  life .  and  for  the  girl  that  pledged  not  to  lose  anyone  again ,  it  stung .  and  with  it  being  who  she  thought  was  the  love  of  her  young  life  there  was  an  anger  deep  in  her  heart ,  an  anger  she’d  never  been  taught  how  to  deal  with .  after all ,  she  was  just  to  look  pretty  and  be  nice  and  pleasant ;  anger  didn’t  factor  into  that .

she’s  trying  her  best  to  keep  going ,  to  hold  her head  up  and  not  let  the  pain  show  but  it’s  obvious  the  girl  is  hurting .  she  wants  vengeance  but  the  one  way  she  knows  how  to  get  it  would  hurt  her  too .  and  then  she  wouldn’t  be  perfect .  and  what  does  she  value  more ? carla  isn’t  sure .  she  just  wishes  she  could  turn  back  time

but  those  days  are  over
