Q: Delta, why did Beta tear out your eyes? Or did you ask him to help modify your vision yourself?

Beta replaced Delta's eyes when he was no more than a year old (not a child; all early segments were produced as fully formed youths). At that time, Beta was grieving for Zandik and fanatically using his research, without considering the condition of the "brothers," in order to reach Omega faster.

So, young Delta, of course, was not informed about the process of the experiment beforehand, and anesthesia was not used, as it was important to keep the subject conscious for calibration. But the pain was a lesser problem; Delta's main suffering lay in the fact that the mechanical eyes were too sensitive—the human brain is not designed for the volume of information they perceive. It was this modification that became the first push for Delta becoming so cruel—an adaptation of the psyche.

For me in the AU, it was fundamentally important to leave Pantalone as a simple mortal human. He is quite old (around 80, I think?), but thanks to the Doctor's efforts, he maintains an excellent appearance and health. My Pantalone is a hypochondriac rich man who is obsessed with youth and "eternal life."
