Touka Kirishima, Rabbit Ghoul
This is the 20th Ward
Touka Kirishima | 霧嶋 董香 Rabbit
Tokyo Ghoul Week Day 4 & 5: Empress & Emperor
The girl simply laughed out loud as she was yanked by the collar of her shirt. The other girl was fast, in fact her speed was on an inhuman level that even Junko couldn’t completely understand. But she didn’t care what happened to her, all her impending death did was bring her more and more despair in the end. It was so intoxicating. “Ahahahahaha! You feel it, don’t you? All of that despair. Despair is all someone really needs. Hope is useless without it.” Her expression was dreamy, as if she had just finished having really great sex or was at the peak of some sort of high.
"If you think I’d fuck around with such a serious matter, I’m afraid you’re wrong! Upupupu~" So now it was time to guess why Touka cared for her dead friend so much. Her temper was so explosive, it gave her all the information she really needed. "I saw her body, you know!" Offhandedly, she added. "And the note she left…"
Yes, hang on to that despair. It’s the most important thing in the world. In fact, it was all the world was now. How tragic.
Despair...?
That had been a word thrown about far too often during her time at the academy. But the more the girl before her used the word, the more it finally began to weigh on her. Funny how such casual use could affect her in such a manner. It was much too hard to believe this was a "serious matter" for the stranger with the way she was handling it all, but it was that which made the ghoul all the more worried.
Fingers twitched almost uncontrollably at her brief monologue, scraping against the back of the stranger's neck as if begging to dig in. Anger was never good, especially in correlation with the returning hunger she felt. At the same time, however, her temper was the only thing between her and a flood of tears. How fucking stupid was she, to have left Takane for that long? Instead of facing the problems immediately, she had ran and hidden like a child. She had put herself first, and that negligence had caused the person who had accepted her as she was to suffer. She had been given so much, and this was how she repaid it all?
In reality, the girl before her was really only a convenient redirect for her hatred.
An immediate change in demeanor as she spoke again. Touka wasted no time in spinning the girl around, this time placing her arm against her throat and shoving her back against the door. "If you had anything to do with this..."
No. She'd figure that out as the conversation went along. "What. Note?"
"What am I doing? Nothing, why do you ask? Am I in trouble? Will you punish me~?" Her voice was coy and innocent, but also oddly condescending. Truth be told, she simply enjoyed prolonging the game she played until she told the girl that her best friend was dead. Or perhaps it was her lover? Oh, how exciting it would be if that were the case! "I told you, I totally fucked Shintaro’s brains out." The girl giggled and casually walked in a slow circle around Touka.
Still choosing not to mention her name, she continued talking. “I think the real question is why you’re here.” Slowly, very slowly she got closer to telling the girl the truth. The build-up to despair was one of the best parts, why waste it? The sound of her heels grinding against the ground signaled her stop in front of Touka. Her face was only centimetres away from touching. “Isn’t it odd, considering Takane Enomoto’s current situation?”
No sooner had she finished the sentence than she turned away from Touka, facing the cabin door and inspecting her nails with nonchalance. “You know, with her dead and all.” Oops, she got bored. Oh well, it would still yield the same results.
With every flippant word, with every tick of a second passing by, the ghoul felt her fingers curl unconsciously. Every muscle in her body was tight, threatening to snap one way or the other on a moment's notice. This stranger was fucking around with her, and that wasn't something that needed to happen in her utterly bewildered state.
She cringed slightly at the extended comment on Shintaro's sexual experiences, honestly unsure of what to think. The circling, however, quickly took her mind off of it. Her eyes never once left the girl, instinct taking over and immediately registering her as a threat. Coming almost nose to nose nearly sent her over the edge, as a matter of fact. Aggression and irritation boiled in her blood and she sucked in a breath through gritted teeth, intent on keeping a level head. It would do no good to be reckless here, especially when the girl before her was the only source of information she had at the moment. Every time she glanced down at those headphones, though, even when she turned away...
"You know, with her dead and all."
That was the cue. Without her conscious say so, Touka's hand shot out towards the girl, threatening to close around her neck. A quick correction from the last shards of sensibility she had left, however, caused her fingers to instead curl tightly around the back of the stranger's collar. It wouldn't show in the coldness of her expression, but her thoughts were a mess for those few moments. The missing name, the fact that Touka had left her alone, the trial, the headphones...
"Stop fucking around!" Disbelief was what finally reigned supreme. She couldn't believe this girl, right? She couldn't have lost Takane again...right? And yet all she could do out those three words, her fingers trembling even as she gave a sharp jerk downwards on the blonde's collar.
It was a wonder what one could accomplish with simply a roll of duct tape, and one of those things was access to a room that should normally be locked. Unfortunately, the girl who used to occupy this cabin with that boy she met in the informary (who was named Shintaro Kisaragi, as she had learned) didn’t have many belongings. But there was one item that could prove very useful: a device she used to have called a Monomessenger. Junko had one herself, as she had learned upon checking out her own assigned room, and it seemed to function similarly to the ElectroIDs she was familiar with but with a few added features. Along with the monomessanger were a pair of distinctive headphones and an mp3 player. Not much use to her, but she shrugged and took those anyway.
As she left the room and peeled off the duct tape that kept the door from latching properly, she ran into a girl standing in front of the cabin. Oh? Could this be Touka? Junko gave the girl a flashy smile as she tucked the monomessenger she swiped into her cleavage. “Ah, you caught me! Oh my, now everyone will know Shintaro Kisaragi and I are in a sexual relationship!” She tilted her head to the side as the girl gave her an odd look. “Hm? Could it be that you’re not his girlfriend? …Ah! I see, I see! You can only be here for…what was her name now?” Dramatically, she made a show out of trying to remember. “Right, it was Takane. Upupu. Sorry, I’m so forgetful!”
Despite hiding the monomessenger, she had made no effort at all of hiding the headphones that now hung around her neck. Almost as if she were taunting the ghoul.
Pure confusion quickly overtook her already scattered thoughts at the sight of a strange woman. She stumbled back a few steps at the collision, every muscle in her body tensing instinctively as she eyed the newcomer warily. Who in God's name...?
Needless to say, a startled look crossed her face at the mention of a "sexual relationship". More befuddled curses threatened to spill over her mouth, but the brief hesitation she took repressing them offered the blonde more than enough time to continue on the conversation.
It was only then that she recognized the startlingly familiar headphones.
From that point on, the conversation was largely unimportant for Touka. Her gaze was instead focused on something that most definitely didn't belong to the girl hanging around her neck. Her lip curled ever so slightly, and upon the mention of Takane's name her body went completely stiff. The fact that she felt utterly in the dark at this point and her heart was racing didn't help her temper, either. "Who are you, and what do you think you're doing?" An immediately defensive mood. This would prove to be an unpredictable ride.
How long had it been?
Years had passed since she had left her room, or so it seemed. The potion had worn off days ago, that much she had determined through the steady decline of her temporarily-human appetite. Only faint traces of her inhuman hunger remained, but more prominent was the lonely feeling that accompanied it.
She missed her, and it was time to reconcile.
Touka had kept thoughts of the last trial she had attended in the back of her mind as best she could. The whole thing had been an entirely alien situation to her, and so she had put it off for as long as possible. Though she hadn't fully sorted out her own feelings on the matter yet, she had avoided it long enough.
And so, she left her room (now devoid of any resident but herself), and made her way down the hall. Endless scenarios ran through her mind as she walked, all of them more tense than she would have liked. She wouldn't stop now, though. She meant far too much to the ghoul, and it was that fact that kept her straight on the path to-
A halt. An alarmed glance at the nameplate by the door. Three names remained, only one of which she faintly recognized.
"Takane Enomoto", however, was nowhere to be found.
"...what the hell?"

Within a couple of hours and approximately six chocolate bars, Touka found herself in the one place on the island she thought she would never have to visit:
the kitchen.
It was strange, catching such a variety of scents she had once found repulsing as she searched the cupboards. At the same time, though, she felt strangely...giddy. She knew that in the wake of all that had happened because of her there should've been little room to feel light-hearted. But such a colossal burden being removed with one simple vial made it exceptionally hard to feel down. Not to mention the fact that her awful hunger had almost been sated at this point.
Unfortunately, however, her good mood had eating away at any caution she may have felt in her fragile new form. She was entirely unfocused as she walked about, snatching up small packages left and right, and paid little attention to the person who walked in moments later. For now, everything would play second fiddle to her new-found humanity, and she honestly didn't seem to care.

[ayato voice] DISGUSTING
She can't hear either of you right now over the sound of moTHER FUCKIN' SNICKERS BARS
She can't say she hasn't thought about it. For years she'd wondered, and for years she had pretended, whether she liked to use that term or not. And now, the opportunity is clutched tightly in her fingers as she sits on the edge of her bed. She shakes the liquid slightly, still not convinced that such a simple thing can change her entire state of being. If there was even a slim chance, though...
A slight pop of the cap, and she downs the potion without the reluctance she normally holds towards such dubious things.
After countless moments of silence, it almost feels as if nothing has changed. She stands and shifts her weight from foot to foot anxiously, awaiting some sort of response. Though she hates to admit it, a lack of a result would bother her more than anyone could ever know, and so soon she's practically praying that something, anything happens.
No response, and she decides to take matters into her own hands. One of her roommates has a tendency to leave candy bars lying about, and she's sure he's more than willing donate to the cause. As she unwraps one, she supposes it doesn't look quite as repulsive as it normally would, but that's hardly any indicator of humanity. And so, pushing back her faintly lingering instincts, she takes a small bite.
And, like an little kid, she feels her eyes water. This time, however, the feeling in her chest is light and blithe, devoid of worry. Finally, if only for a little while, Touka Kirishima is
human.
