This is a bit difficult. Although Courtney Eaton is Indigenous, I wrote The Poet with North American Indigenous communities in mind, and specifically what is currently the United States. I'm going to tentatively say “no,” although with the right application she might work. It’s just that certain elements of the skeleton do imply a certain background.

Sure! I think Jasmine Tookes fits better with The Singer’s age range, but I would be fine with Senait Gidey as well.

Hi! They are all set, simply because they are all connected. In other words, if I alter one, I have to change all of the others. Furthermore, they’re relative, not absolute. It’s just a way of knowing how each role stacks up compared to the others. If you have a specific concern about a specific skeleton, though, I would be happy to discuss that with you.

I don't believe I'll be able to apply because of time constraints and not feeling enough muse for the characters to properly play them but I just want to say this group looks fantastic. I love the attention to detail, the aesthetic you've created, the blog. Everything!! Awesome job :))

I appreciate that you want people to be mindful of historical accuracies and how it impacted people of colour and lgbt peoples. But how will that play out in game?

Good question! So, regarding applications, I keep stating that reminder because I think it’s essential to fully write those aspects into the character’s history and background. This includes the positives and the negatives, of course. I wouldn’t want applicants to feel like they need to ... write something that dwells solely on the hardships of being a POC, or LBGTQ, or whatever other marginalized identities one might hold. Still, acknowledging the complexities of the time is important. 

As far as in-game is concerned, I think we can bend the rules of historical “accuracy” for the sake of inclusion — both for characters and the members themselves. The comfort of members is the priority, and everything else can follow. We might reference negative things, sure, but I would not want to see characters being explicitly racist or homophobic or whatever else, and definitely not without plot-relevance (though that’s hardly a justification). That being said, I trust our members will be able to depict the characters they’ve created without offending anyone. 

In essence, I want to strike a balance between creating full characters and maintaining an environment that is safe and welcoming. Hopefully I explained it with some clarity.

Zawe Ashton may be a bit old for The Singer, but I think the other two options would be great for their respective roles.

Hi there! I would say that The Explorer, The Singer, The Seer, and The Bastard are all the best roles to be written as trans. Of course, it depends on how you plan to write them — any or most of the roles could be written as trans. As with all marginalized identities we’ve discussed, please be sensitive to the historical context and its impact on the character.

would you consider opening without all the apps? and who will you be playing?

As I’ve stated before, it’s really essential that all roles are filled. The characters are all very closely linked, and the round cards call for interactions with basically everyone. That being said, I may consider taking a leftover role if one goes unfilled. Otherwise, I will be manageable the equivalent of NPCs rather than playing one of the roles.
