Hey, Hello!

Hey, it’s been a while since the last time I showed up here, but it’s been a few months already I’ve been thinking about coming back! I miss writing my ocs and I feel like rping them helps me develop them so much! (Not to mention nice headcanon asks that make me actually think about them!) Anyeway, this is just a post to say that I’m coming back!

Yene hummed, propping his chin up on his hands, smile mischievous and his real and screen eye squinted like a pleased cat. "Who knows? I have no talent at telling the future, you'd have to ask a seer. But the fun of this game is one can never know the consequences until they come to pass, can they?"

He dropped a hand to tap his polished black nail against the spot between the cards. "What do you think your actions have done? What meaning do you assign them? After all, at the end of the day this is just a silly card game where we assign meaning to pictures and things that, perhaps, we mere mortals are too foolish to comprehend, isn't it?"

Avynie hopped back up on the cart, kicking his legs off the side and pulled his deck out of his pocket again, shuffling it absentmindedly.

Yene glanced for a split second over at Avynie, his expression shifted minutely, before it was back on Velvet and returning to it's previous amusement. "You could always pull more cards and see what your future lays out for you now. Will something have changed? Who knows?"

The girl hummed at the other's words, blinking at him. "I guess you can read the card but whatever I do with it is up for me to understand..." She looked back down at the cards, thinking to herself. "The desert is really dry and has no water in it usually. Its too hot and dry there, actually, so I think..." The woman reached for the card, slowly removing it from the goblet and watching as the water dripped from the card before continuing "...adding some water would help things feel a little bit better" she looked up at him, blushing slightly, worrying her actions were too weird "Um... I don't want more unfixable things that are hard to deal with in my life."

Velvet turned her gaze at the cart again "You already said I can't change the thing I'm lacking, right?" Her finger moved over the die, she was tempted to just roll it again, but she knew that doing it wouldn't change much in her live.

She watched Yene as he spoke again then looked at the decks, thoughtful. "I want 2 more cards from each deck."

“Hmm, is it?” Is all Yene offered when she spoke of the desert. He’d been referring to the inside of the ice cream cart, but when he spoke of his roommates she must have thought he meant the card. He wouldn’t correct her, where was the fun in giving all the tricks he had up his sleeve away?

The first card she picked depicted the same dancing dead bodies, but these ones were worn away to their bones, and there were 7 of them, in some group dance position in the midst of changing partners from the looks of it, their fingers just brushing their dance companion. The odd skeleton out seemed to be in the center of the dance formation, all alone and dancing an almost different dance the one the others moved too. The second depicted 6 decaying corpses carrying a 7th equally decayed corpse in an open coffin. The third card showed someone getting publicly hanged, with the label ‘The Victim’ in fancy script across the bottom.

The dice rolled to a stop on another blank. Yene tapped his chin thoughtfully as he observed it. “Seems you can’t change your lack…”

Then he swept his attention to the cards. “Two 7s and the Victim of Public Execution. Are you a criminal or are you merely an outcast who society has decided to treat as a scapegoat? The 7 of skeletons suggests you are currently in a position that is good, but how do you intend to keep yourself in that position? The sigil is ‘May we do the eternal dance of death and know every step.’ The 7 of decay is about putting in the work to get a long term goal met. The sigil in the corner says ‘Every corpse wants a grave, but who will help you get to it?’ It’s about making wise choices now, to ensure your work pays off as you wish it too.”

While Yene was explaining, Avynie had returning, now holding a goblet of water, which he set on the table next to the growing layout of Velvet’s card collection.

When she rolled a blank again the woman sighed, frowning at the dice. “Nem fudendo...” she cursed under her breath. What were the odds for her to get that again? She hated it, but it probably meant something... unfortunatly. “I don’t wanna be lacking, though.” She complained, annoyed.

But then her attention moved back to the cards. At least sometihing was different! She looked at each one of them, for a moment while the other explained their meanings. Her eyes did’t move from the cards, though “Depends on how you’d describe any of those options...” She didn’t considered herself a criminal, even if she did set things on fire they were clearly abandoned for a long time and no one ever got hurt.... not that she knew about at least...

She looked at all the cards on the table, a quick glance at the dice... she didn’t like those, and then she noticed Avynie was back “Oh, thanks!” She said, finally smiling again. She grabbed the globbed and dived her fingers in it, then shaking on top of all the cards, letting the drops fall on them. She poured a bit of the water over the blank die and finally placed the goblet on the table, dipping the desert card inside the water. “Do every move I do mean something? Are you gonna explain if that change anything or is that up me to define?”

Yene shook his head, before placing the lid back over the small opening in the top. “The freezer isn’t on, I’m not even sure it works anymore. Plus! My friends would get too cold and air conditioning is such an exorbitant luxury~”

Avynie didn’t comment on the ringmaster’s dramatics, this woman wouldn’t get it, after all. So he instead focused on her question about the bugs, reaching out and plucked the bug card from her hand, scanning the 6 bugs before rattling off their traits: “Using the self-symbolism, ticks mean tenacity, persistence, and patience, while also being overly personal and intimate, pushing boundaries, and draining those around them for their own gains. Ladybugs symbolize good luck, fortune, but also protectors of allowing growth and change in others, since on plants they eat pests and allow the plants to flourish. Bees symbolize hard work within a group, industry, and putting in effort as part of a community to reach a common goal. Centipedes are top predators of the bug kingdom - they eat spiders, crickets, cockroaches, bed bugs, moths, and sometimes each other - they’re nocturnal, so they work well in human dwellings. The one depicted is a house centipede specifically, which are like real life brownies, you rarely see them but they keep the place clean and they hide whenever people are around. Mosquitos are similar to ticks, but not so much draining those around them since they only drink a little, and more irritating those around them, they’re the people who’s presences are unwanted and viewed as a nuisance, so it usually means low self-worth, but they symbolize survival on the positive side. And lastly, ants symbolize the same stuff as bees, but with an added endurance and strength and not as much ‘doing good’ since bees at least make honey, but ants work for their colony and not to the benefit of other animals.”

He handed the card back to her before uncrossing his legs and standing up, hopping off the cart. His coat seemed to jingle as he did so, and there was a brief glimpse of a few various trinkets hooked around as his belt before his oversized jacket fell back to cover it. “I’ll go inside and get you some water for that.”

Without another word, he walked around the cart to the opposite side Velvet stood on, crouched down and was gone.

Yene clapped his hands loudly once, then picked up his deck again, fanning them out facing down and holding them out towards her. “You can draw you next cards and re-roll while we wait for him to get back.”

Velvet looked again to the desert card and blinked “It’s a desert, I’m pretty sure it’s very hot there.” Tho, her attention quickly turned to the other man as he explained to her about the bugs. Her eyes moved down to the card, looking at each of the bugs to follow what he was telling her and wondering which bug would she consider herself.

Was she a tick? She did was persistent, maybe not exactly pateint.... she might push bounderies sometimes... did she? Did she drawin people around her? She did use Nolan’s money, but it wasn’t like he wasn’t aware of that! He did give her a card with access to his account, after all!. 

Ladybug she was sure she wasnt. She didn’t protect anyone, she couldn’t really call herself ‘lucky’ or with good fortune, or... could she? She did have a somewhat working family, her brother was rich and allowed her to just live her life doing whatever she wanted without having to worry about working, ever... She shouldn’t complain about her life, she had it way worse before, but now she was at a good place, maybe she should remember that more often.

She had too much presence to be a centipede, she liked the attention and she didn’t see herself as a predator... she guessed that would mean she’d be intimidating? She knew she wasn’t like that.

Her gazer on the card softened as she kept getting more and more lost in thought while listening to the man speaking. Maybe a mosquito was more fitting of her? She did wonder if she was a little too much sometimes, she was usually by herself, but whenever she was around people she enjoyed the company of she wouldn’t leave the person alone. She frowned when he spoke about the low self-worth. She did wonder if she was a nuisence sometimes, but usually decided to not dwell on it for too long.

The girl still watched the card when he handed it to her, but then moved her attention back to the man, blinking when he seemed to disappear behind the cart, quickly moving around it to see where he went, but her attention was quickly moved to the loud clapping noise.

She smiled, eyes moving at the cards fanned out at her “How long have you guys had these decks? You sure know a lot about it.” He remarked, she was struggling to learn all the meanings to all the normal cards plus some oracles and they knew all the meanings to whatever she could come up with in this game? They sure were impressive!

Velvet grabbed one card from the far right, one from the middle and one on the left, turning them over the cart and watching Yene, curious about the new cards she had gotten. She also grabbed the blank dice and rerolled it, she sure didn’t like how he had described that. She didn’t want to be lacking anything and if she was fucking with her fate she’d be sure there wouldn’t be anything lacking.

It was a good thing to start it with someone who didn't seem to be depressed for once. "Are you out to have fun tonight? Waiting for someone or just wanna relax a little?" He asked, grabbing a glass, twirling it in his hand before grabbing a beer bottle and opening it on the opener placed on the counter, quickly turning it in the glass and sliding it to the girl in front of him. "I'm Angelo, if you need anything you can call me anytime!"

When JJ had gotten in touch with her about meeting someone important, the woman couldn’t help a flood of questions riddled with excitement. If this person was important to her son than surely meeting them was a sign of something serious! 

But from the vague conversation and short answers over the phone - Ella wondered if everything was alright. She had hardly seen the other for some time but it didn’t stop her from worrying about him. If he ever needed anything at all he could always come home to welcoming arms and a warm feast. “I just hope he hasn’t gotten himself into any trouble.” she finds herself brooding over hypothetical dangers. The witch dismisses the what if’s the closer she got to their meeting spot and soon enough the sight of familiar locks of hair and cat features has Ella brighten.  

She wastes no time rushing over, hardly registering the other man beside JJ to throw her arms around her son. 

It had been too long apart from him…

He didn’t want her to think he’d gotten pregnant and just not told her, that would be an insult to how important she was in his life. “I’ve been living with Nolan as kinda roommates for almost 2 years, and it’s all been very complicated, so I couldn’t stay in touch with anyone. But things are better now! And I have a baby!”

He offered Lark to her, the infant being young enough not to be upset to be passed around to people she was meeting for the first time. Not that Jamie would’ve have let anyone else hold her except Ella. The small blond baby observed the woman she was being offered too, chewing on her hand in the overly serious way that only a child could manage.

Nolan couldn’t help but smile once he noticed how happy the woman looked once she saw Jamie. He watched as they hugged, happy to know there was someone who also cared so much for him. He didn’t reply to Ella’s question, only turning his gaze to Jamie, waiting for his response, though he did smile back at her.

The man frowned and looked away as the other explained what happened. He was happy the way he did it didn’t sound too bad, but even then it didn’t sound like a good situation, but he chose not to dwell on that too much for now “Do you guys wanna come in? I’m sure Ella can be more comfortable inside” Plus it would be best if they all didn’t show everyone how many possibly important people to Nolan could be in that house at the moment... just in case... he wouldn’t want anyone in danger, even if he knew that Jamie might not be in danger

“Well, I met her when I was a preteen and first arrived in the human world. I was given a lot of freedom so I ran into her accidentally and she took me under her wing.” He was happy to tell Nolan this, it wasn’t like he often talked about his childhood to anyone, regardless of the circumstances, so it was nice to share this information about himself with Nolan (and it warmed his heart that Nolan even cared to meet her, that had to be a good sign, right?). “She’s the closest thing to a mother I’ve had, since the blood relatives who were supposed to being taking care of me here were pretty neglectful. Her name’s Ella - oh, also she’s a witch, so I think they age differently than humans.”

“I haven’t really told her about our situation, just that I want her to meet someone important.” Obviously that was Lark, first, and if Nolan was okay meeting Ella, he’d introduce him as a – “Um, what should I introduce you to her as?”

He glanced at his device wrapped around his wrist (a form his phone sometimes took, to make it easier to read things and hold Lark), “She should be here soon.”

His features were soft, his ears pricked up and tail curling upwards happily. He hadn’t seen Ella in a while due to the circumstances and he couldn’t wait to see her again and show off his newly acquired baby.

Nolan was nodding as the other spoke, making sure to pay attention to all the information he was getting, not just becaue of Ella, but because he actually wanted to know more about Jamie.

The man smiled to himself when the other said his mother was a wtich. Velvet would be mad at him if she found out he didn’t invite her over to meet this girl.

When asked about what he should be introduced as, he blinked. He hasn’t thought about it for too long, he liked keeping it as it was, without putting much thought into it and definitely not adding any lables on it, it kept the expectation at minimum... it was best for him, but then again, if he didn’t say anything now he could lose his chance with JJ... “I mean we’re basically raising a kid together, even if you monopoly her attention most of the time...” He remarked, scratching the back of her neck “But, hm... I like having you around, and even if it’s a little complicated based on everything that happened so far I do want to continue being around you... if you’re ok with that, so.. uh, I guess your boyfriend? Or... well roommate would work too, I think..”

 “She’s like my mom, unofficially.” Jamie was holding the little girl that barely left his arms. “So, it’s important for Lark to meet her…and if you want to meet her that would be cool…”

He really wanted Nolan to meet Ella, but he was afraid of asking for too much so early in the relationship. What was the normal time frame to meet someone’s parents? He’d lived with Nolan for almost 2 years now, even if the first year had been sent locked in the basement, it still counted as roommates, right?

He brushed his hair behind his ear, cat ears twitching nervously. “If you don’t want to meet her it’s fine! But, um, thanks for letting her come to visit, at least…”

They’d only been involved for a short time, maybe this was too soon?

Nolan was surprised when he found out who was the person Jamie wanted to come to see the baby, also surprised by the act that he openly wanted someone to see her, actually, considering how protective he was of Lark all the time.

His eyebrows rose as he heard the word ‘mom’, though. It sure was soon for him to meet Jamie’s parents but, for some reason, Nolan felt excited about meeting her, maybe it was because it wasn’t actually his mom? He couldn’t tell. 

“It’s fine, I don’t mind meeting her, I think it’ll be important.” He finally said,a small smile directed at JJ showing up on his face. “Did she raise you or something? I mean, you put so much emphasis on ‘unofficially’...” he remarked, laughing quietly. “What’s her name, again, though? I don’t wanna forget about it when she shows up”

JJ’s 3 mainverse kids:

Lark Venus-King: sandy/dark blond/golden hair, brown eyes, light skin. The responsible eldest child, very much a capitalist, likes money/accounting. Adopted.

Leon “Sunshine” Crow King: sandy/dark blond/golden hair, brown eyes, tan skin. He’s an empath (magic type) and very clingy and emotional and a bit of an extrovert. Biologically JJ’s (and Nolan - who is @lethal-honey‘s OC).

Noel “Snowball” Raven King: platinum/white blond hair, dark green eyes, tan skin. He’s an introvert, chill with doing his own thing, likes comfortable/companionable silence (he will sit near people he likes and read or play handheld gaming devices, but stay silent). He’s emotionally reserved and quiet. He is the fraternal twin to Leon (so, biologically JJ and Nolan’s kid too).
