Please don’t take your pets for granted. Even if you’re frustrated that your dog has been barking all day or your bird has been screaming for attention, remember you are all they have in this world. Give your fish that extra water change. Give your dog or cat that tummy rub they’ve been begging for. Chop up some fresh fruit as a treat for your rodents or reptiles. Just spend some time with them. Be compassionate to your animals. They are living creatures that are alive simply because you wish them to be. They may only be a small part in your life, but to them, you are their everything.
Don’t you see the pain your causing in me
Like a rotting cedar tree
It was only a week, but it felt like a lifetime Of happiness I’ll never receive And to my surprise you lie through your teeth so
Almost Famous Friends - Wither (Acoustic Draft)
Don’t you see the pain your causing in me
Like a rotting cedar tree
It was only a week, but it felt like a lifetime
Of happiness I’ll never receive
And to my surprise you lie through your teeth so well
You say I’m perfect, but if so, then why am I here, all alone with the future to fear
I hope the flowers of your mind
bloom in every place you lay your head
Would you lay your head with me?
While you grow a garden beautiful and sweet
I wither and lose leaves
My branches are in pieces

In this blog post I am going to do a lyric analysis of the single “Go Flex” by Post Malone. The song is a down-tempo hip hop style, with a slight touch of both folk and emo influence. The folk influence, mainly apparent in the use of open chord acoustic guitar playing, is possibly a factor of his childhood in Grapevine, Texas. The emo influence is vague, but displayed in this generally apathetic mood throughout the song. Lyrically, he talks about varying subjects such as wanting to let go of pain, drama, and responsibilities. A heavy use modern/urban diction such as, “in the cut” a reserved or well hidden hang out, “flex” or to show off, and “bands” which is a term suggesting a large banded roll of money, is a large part of the vernacular of the lyricals as well.
Verse 1:
“Lighting stog after stog, choke on the smoke
They tell me to quit, don't listen to what I'm told
Help me forget that this world is so cold
I don't even know what I'm chasin' no more
Tell me what I want, just keep searchin' on
It's never enough, cup after cup, blunt after blunt
I wouldn't give one if I could find a fuck, ha, ha, ha”
In the first main phrase of this verse, he expresses his unhealthy smoking habits, how friends and family till him he needs to quit, but knows he is going to do his own thing anyway to help him “forget that this world is so cold.” The line is also metaphorically saying that the world is heartless and lifeless. Also is expressed his loss of motivation and purpose, as he continues to drink and self-medicate without a care in the world.
“In the cut and I put that on my mamma
And my bitch called talkin' bout some drama
I swear there ain't no time for women on the come up
It's either the pussy or the commas”
In the final phrase of this verse, he basically states that he has no time for drama or relationships, as they distract or get in the way of the “commas,” or making money. It is interesting how he doesn’t directly talk about money, he uses the idea of a large number with multiple commas to suggest he is talking about thousands or millions of dollars. Also the term “in the cut” is used to suggest that he is in a place well hidden off from easy access.
Chorus:
“Man I just wanna go flex
Gold on my teeth and on my neck
And I'm stone cold with the flex
With my squad and I'm smokin' up a check” (x2)
As the main refrain and repeated lyrics of the song, this section is very important to the overall message. He is basically saying that he wants to go out, show off, let go. “Gold on my teeth and on my neck,” suggesting the importance to him to look fashionable and noticeable in public. When they are “smokin’ up a check” they are basically spending big money, possibly on reckless substances, but symbolically letting go of the worries and monetary ideals of modern society. He also uses the phrase “stone cold” as a metaphor to suggest that he is unbreakable or stoppable.
Verse 2:
“Push the gas, get a motherfuckin' nose bleed
She ain't never met a youngin' do it like me
She got a man but says she really like me
She doin' things to excite me
She sending all her friends snaps of my new tracks
'Cause all these hoes know what's about to come next
I hit my plug up, got the paper connect
I drop a couple bands I just wanna go...”
In the second verse, he starts off by depicting himself to, “push the gas” suggesting that he’s working hard and moving fast. He goes on about a girl who is showing him off to all her friends on snapchat, because they all know he is on the “come up” of riches and fame. He “drops a couple bands” or spends a ton of money.
(Chorus)
Bridge:
“Knowing all of this
Just don't make a difference
I'm just talking shit to the ones that will listen
I come with the heat man, I swear I'm never missing
And I'm still the same and I swear I'm never switching” (x2)
With the final unique phrase of the song, he basically states that what he’s learned about life doesn’t bother him, that even with all the drama, expectations, and stress of the world, it does not change anything in his mind. He still has main priorities to work hard and be true to himself.

do you ever just wanna sit next to someone and listen to everything they could possibly say about anything ever just because you like their face and their voice and their general existence
