Okkervil River - Okkervil River Song
Just some nice folk with a good rhythm and interesting lyrics to boot.
The New Pornographers - Bleeding Heart Show
This song is so incredibly original. It's really refreshing and exciting to listen to. Seriously just give it a chance and you will be hooked.
Dixie Chicks - Lullaby
Sorry for the brief hiatus guys, I've been a bit busy lately. I originally heard this song on True Blood, it's completely adorable and really calming to listen to.
Death Cab For Cutie - What Sarah Said
Death Cab is such a solid band, and one that also helped me broaden my musical interests. Everything about this song is so touching, from the lyrics, to the piano, to the video itself (which features the flawless James Ransone).
Cloud Cult - The Ghost Inside Our House
The lyrics are beautiful, and this song is based on the death of the singer's son, which brings a whole new meaning to it. Everything about this song is just so lovely and calming.
The Mountain Goats - No Children
This is honestly the best song to listen to if you're pissed off at someone or something or everything. The contrast between the fierce, hopeless lyrics and the almost cheery instrumentals is just so perfect. I really can't express how much I love this song and how it's actually helped me deal with things that really just suck.
Built By Snow - All The Weird Kids Know
This is such a great, weird, little song. It's really cute and has a pretty interesting tune.
Sophie Madeleine - You Are My Favourite
This song is so adorable I just want to listen to it in a pink room filled with stuffed animals and all my favourite people singing it with me. Seriously though, it's a real spirit-lifter and it'll brighten your day.
Thao & Mirah - Little Cup
Such a quiet and sweet song. The vocals are just so soft and perfect for this song. Very enjoyable.
The Rural Alberta Advantage - Frank AB
More from RAA. This song is so beautiful and the build up to the ending is really awesome to listen to.
Kanye West - Lost in the World
I'm a huge Kanye fan. Even though I don't support all his actions, I still think he's an amazing artist and a creative genius. Lost in the World is such an intense song and is complemented by Bon Iver's beautiful vocals.
Stark Sands - Hey Ya (cover)
I listened to this years ago, before I even knew who Stark was. Now that I've seen Generation Kill (which I highly recommend) I love this song even more. I love the original song too, but this is a great cover. So different and really well done.
Hey everyone! I noticed there have been a couple broken youtube links for some videos so I've been trying to keep them updated but I haven't had a chance to check them all out. I'd appreciate if you could give me a heads up if you come across any broken links so that I can update them or just delete them if I can't find a substitute. Thanks!
Mikey Chuck Rivers - Runaway (cover)
A country singer covering a hip hop artist? It doesn't sound like it would turn out to well but I'm actually obsessed with this cover. It's amazing how well they're able to transfer the genres in a way that makes it sound like it could have easily just been a country song (despite some of the lyrics). Seriously just give it a listen, you'll be really surprised.
Against Me! - I Was a Teenage Anarchist
I don't listen to Against Me! a whole lot, but I think they're a pretty talented band. This song is really fun, catchy, and has some interesting social commentary.
Paper Route - Dance on our Graves
The piano and vocals on this are absolutely beautiful. Really interesting and delicate, emotional song.
