I wanna talk about something. It seems like a background story but it's actually a basis.

Everyone knows Seventeen as self-composed idols. Everything you see and hear – they made it themselves. And many find is fascinating since it's not a common case in k-pop. Yes, writing songs is difficult, coming up with countless ideas is challenging, but there is something else which might be by far more challenging in my opinion – the burden of it.

We should all agree – not a single group/idol has it easy. No matter where and how they debute, they worked hard for it. But if a common group, which gets a song and choreography they have to learn by heart, fails – the blame is not only on them. Of course they'd feel bad and company wouldn't be like "yo no problem it's my fault" but psychologically speaking – they know they couldn't do much in the first place.

What does it have to do with Seventeen? I think that the main burden is not mere song writing and coming up with new moves – since it's something they truly enjoy – I think the main problem is its weight. They know that if they don't succeed it's all their own fault. It would be their song that people don't listen to, not their voices only. It would be their dance people don't find interesting enough to watch, not only their dancing. And this is what I find truly amazing about Seventeen – that those young boys gave up on common life and locked themselves in rooms and studios building their group from the very bottom to the top. And do you know which is even more amazing? That they wanted it themselves. As it was once said – since their debute was postponed many times they wanted to prove to the company that they can do it – and that is how we got the genius self-made group full of inspiring, creative and sincere people. A side story of it would be: don't forget that you have to be able to make 13 people agree, and they somehow do it. But le's talk about it another time.

P.S. Many times I've heard that Carats (yes for the name!) brag too much about Seventeen making their own stuff but hey – they would too if it were their favorite. :)

I never spent a split of second to think that SMTM could actually be a scar on Hansol’s heart. It makes me so mad now that I never actually thought he has thoughts about it, feelings about it or that he might be remembering of that every now and then. But he obviously does and what’s sad that he not merly has regrets but also feels bad for Seventeen it hurts so much. But in the other hand, members as wonderful and they aRE JUST SWITCHED IT TO POSITIVITY AND TRIED THEIR BEST TO SHOW HIM THAT IT’S NOTHING BAD FOR SEVENTEEN MOREOVER THEY EVEN SAID “I’M JEALOUS WHEN THEY WANNA TAKE PHOTOT JUST WITH YOU” THEY TRIED ANYTHING TO SHOW HIM THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THE EXPERIENCE AND I’M CRYING I LOVE SEVENTEEN SO MUCH AND THEY LOVE EACH OTHER EVEN MORE

I just want to take a moment and say - no matter what happens today Seventeen has shown themselves to general public and that’s the point of them being on MAMA. Don’t say “it’d be better if they stayed home” because they would possibly face not being called out for rookie of the year award but no, that’s wrong. They came to promote themselves, they came to make everyone see what they have to offer, they came to make their music be heard.

No matter what happens tonight - Seventeen came far already.

I know a lot of us including me didn’t like the name Mounteen that Soonyoung gaved us, but we still must think about how Hoshi feels. Because I know I would be sad or just ashamed when that whole fandom doesn’t like my idea and continuously diss it. Be supportive of him even for other reasons and keep loving this little cute, handsome mushroom. Spread the love. :)

thank you very much! maybe this doesn’t end as our fandom name and it’s ok if it doesn’t I really hope we get name that is generally accepted but what hurts me is the agression and negativity fandom spread in an instant. I hope Soonyoung will know we love him and that he did his best.

How did mounteen come about? How did hoshi come up with it?

I read he said his mom appeared in his dream telling it to him and he thught it’d be a good idea also some people aussme it’s because of seventeen logo if you turn it upside down? I’m not quite sure yet but either way it must contain a meaning because come on every single move in choreographies he makes contains whole bible of meanings

shame on you for shaming fans who genuinely dislike the name mounteen and directing it as hurting soonyoung just bc we dislike the idea. i understand where you're coming from as it does upset me too that hoshi is taking the dislike for the name personally but fanclub names hold meaning for us too not just the group & despite there not being any suitable alternative options for the fanclub name atm, I was just hoping that 17 wouldn't be so set on something that their fans aren't happy about

But excuse me is there any idea that the whole fandom would be happy about? there are so many people in here and I assure you that every single name would get simillar reaction. I don’t remember that any group who gave their fandom name passed without disapproval. Speaking out your opinion and bashing is not the same. Making photoshopped photos of fandom pushing Soonyoung down the mountain is not a damn dislike, it’s insulting and it’s hurtful. Soonyoung is someone who has so much pressure and whole Seventeen depends on his ideas and he told us several times how stressed he is and how affraid he is he’d run out of it and the open dissing, not constructively criticizing it but making insulting statements about it, is not going to motivate him any more. What if he loses all confidence in his creativity and ideas? What is he loses the spark he has now? What if he loses trust in us and gets more and more anxious for each new comeback and choreography? You will suck it up. There are so many fandom names people made fuss about and they got used to it and accepted it. But if you damage the person who carried extreme burden on own back at the young age, who is never ever sleeping and always thinking and changing ideas and who dedicate his life to his creativity and ideas what did you get? If you don’t like the name then give an alternative and not waste time on making insulting statements. And shame me all you want but I am here to protect him.

I would just like to take the moment and nicely ask you to spare a minute thinking of how does Soonyoung feel with majority of the fandom making fun and the I-will-unstan-if-that-is-fandom-name comments about the potential fandom name. He was excited to share his idea with all of us and you all made so much drama out of it. Are you aware of who Soonyoung is? Someone whose brain never sleeps in order to show us fun choreographies and exciting stages, who is thinking even during tiring schedules during promotions in order to make changes and make you and happy and draw a grin on your face, someone who undergoes so much pressure and stress at this young and carefree age for you and now all you do is openly and aggressively bashing the possible fandom name? It means to him. You are not bashing the name you are bashing Soonyoung, someone you should do anything to protect in this ugly and cruel world we live in. Fandom name might mean to you but trust me - it means to Soonyoung and Seventeen just as much, if not even more. Once they give us an official name it will be because it means to them and for their sake, for their happiness and for their self-esteem you should accept it the best you can. Members undergo so much shit, if I may use the word, so much stress, pressure, they work their asses off every single day and all you can do is to at least not bash and insult them. 

Protect them. Praise them. Love them. Spread positivity. Support them. 

You might think I’m overreacting but didn’t Soonyoung ask a fan during menpa “why do you guys hate it so much?” And it didn’t speak to you at all? But the turning point for me was reading this

I saw someone shared this on twitter so I don’t know whom to credit if anyone of you know please tell me, but learn from Seungkwan yall.

Seventeen and Japan?

this is random but I remember seventeen having good sales for boys be in japan like they were in the top 20 korean albums sold in japan for 2015 so far. the data was released a few weeks after boys be was released but they were competing with albums that had been released months prior. As in they sold around roughly ~4,000 copies  in japan. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot but when you compare that with the total album sales at the time (38,000), it’s a good chunk of it.. what was weird was they were the only rookie group in there and ranked higher than groups who actually had some promotions in japan.  Like it genuinely confused me, how is this group getting decent sales in japan, when they really hadn’t made an impact in their domestic market yet. I kinda thought that since exo’s japan debut was coming up Japanese fans wouldn’t really bother with another kpop group with lots of members. I mean their video was filmed in japan but that couldn’t really be the reason why could it? what was their appeal?

And I saw this comment somewhere

Could it possible be…that they just really like jeonghan or something? Is jeonghan singlehandedly responsible for these sales?  I don’t know I want to hear what other people think lol. But I’m happy that they’re getting well known in Japan bc literally every group tries to promote their since it’s generally known the Korean market isn’t as profitable. Also, people have heard about that seventeen are doing overseas promotions and they don’t want them to be shipped off to (most likely) japan just yet. But I really feel like people underestimate the importance of the Japanese market.  Like the Japanese market is extremely profitable as  in Japan is the 2nd biggest music market; Korea is only 8th and japan makes 10 times more what korea does in the music industry. I guess this is why companies are so keen to promote in Japan because its where the money’s at.  I remember hearing that 50% of SM entertainment’s revenue in 2014 came from TVXQ; who are extremely popular in Japan. So I’m not sure what pledis has in store but I hope they do try to appeal to the Japanese market because it’ll be great if they can make it big there. But they seem really intent on china tho (jun’s weibo and members are learning mandarin).

I think the idea of Seventeen being promoted in Japan is really dangerous. Because even though Japanese market is a very fruitful one, promoting in Japan for too long actually can DECREASE their popularity in Korea. That was what happened with After School and Nu’est. Making a lot of money in Japan can lead Pledis to forget their national market and make Korean fan turn their back on Seventeen (and admit it, Korean fans are the most helpful supporters). K-pop in Japan is not that popular, companies just like Japan because they have a high living-standard and willingly spend money on concerts, buying tickets and fangoods etc. Even a nugu group in Korea can sell their tickets at a very high price.

However, it’s unavoidable for Pledis to promote in Japan, because half of the company belongs to Japanese investors. I think they did a bit of promoting in Japan for Boys Be too? Even Hoshi learnt Japanese (his stage name is Japanese). I just hope that they will promote in Japan after building a really strong fanbase in Korea and they won’t forget the Korea market, otherwise they may face ‘the flop’ that happened to their sunbaes.

I adore how Seungkwan and Mingyu clearly tries extremely hard to talk in english, eventhough they know it’s not easy. Although their broken english made people laugh, they aren’t discouraged to continue learning and practicing. I also adore how The8 and Jun promised to limit their use in mandarin so The8 can learn korean better. I hope he is not worried as he has 12 brothers - especially Jeonghan - and millions of fans supporting him. Next, Joshua and Vernon. How many times have they saved us? They made sure that us, international fans are informed about things since they are the group’s fluent english speakers. I typed fluent because I cant help but want to talk about Woozi. During the meet&greet with Seventeen, Woozi read one of the fans massage that says she wanted Seungkwan & Joshua to rap in english. He reads without any help. And he also knows Seungkwan was confused between “difficult” & “different”. He seemed to be very confident about his english to the point he -shamelessly- raised his own hand for Joshua to pick him as the member who is good in English other than Vernon. Look how happy he was when he got chosen. I want to hear him speak one day…

There’s a lot more I haven’t mentioned due to obvious reasons. This turned out becoming Woozi’s fangirl post.
