Brief Hiatus

I’m going to be away until around the 19th or 20th. Going to stay with friends upcountry for a week, and I also got a table at an art con! (More info is on my art blog - here if anyone’s interested! - be warned there are a couple of gory pics at that link though)

So I won’t be around until then, though I may update sporadically on my personal blog (I don’t log into my rp blogs via phone because I always end up losing the password and locking myself out!)

"Right." She just continued looked a little confused for a moment then checked the sensors on the console beside her. They were on the inbound leg of their patrol, and that would give them an excuse to visit home for the first time in close to a year. they were even closer to Earth than she’d anticipated.

"We’re nineteen light years from Earth now. I can take you there. Maybe then you can find another way back to… wherever it is that you’ve come from?” As for laughing, she wasn’t quite there yet, but she could see some amusement to it. At least.

Holly thought about it for a moment, then shook his head. "Nah. Sorry mate. I'm afraid that won't work. See I'm not the one that needs to get to Earth. Well not particularly. I mean I haven't got any legs, so it's not like I can enjoy running around or anything, or hadn't you noticed?" he gave another halfhearted giggle.

"Nah, it's my crew I'm worried about. If I can't get them back to Earth within the next fifty or sixty years or so... well then they might die of old age! And then I'll have no one to play Eye Spy with. Well... I suppose I could stay here, and play Eye Spy with you, Captain. But it's s'posed to be my duty to look after Dave, and get him safely back home. We could play Eye Spy for a little bit though, if you want. Let's see. I spy with my little eye, something beginning with.... C!"

The Doctor rolled his eyes at but made no effort to defend himself from Holly’s digs at his fashion sense. Honestly this was one of his better goes at it- at least he hadn’t chosen a rainbow-colored ensemble or gone back to that odd fascination with a question mark motif.

"Bit of everything, actually. Though not all in the traditional degree and university sense," he said, glancing over at the scanner. It still had a bit to go. Made sense- big ship. Ginormous, really. Honestly he’d be more surprised if it didn’t find anything given the size and apparent time the ship had been left to its own devices.

"Cadium II is fairly nasty so I’m not surprised there. Why’d you have to keep track of when it’ll be cleared up, though?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow in confusion. "I mean I suppose you’d probably have to wait for it to reach non-lethal and non-harmful to human levels to return the ship, but I somehow doubt whatever mining corporation you’re a part of will still be around after all those millennia."

Holly nodded with understanding, as if sharing a mischivious secret. "Ah, I get it. A self-made doctor, ey? Well don't worry, mate. Your secret's safe with me." Holly thought that this 'doctor' meant he had used a fake degree, with fake documents to prove his fake abilities. But he had no reason to tell anyone... in fact, now he thought about, there wasn't anyone to tell, anyway.

As for the... Doctor's question...

"Oh," said Holly, suddenly remembering. "I've got a bloke in stasis, yeah. Nearly forgot about him. He's the only survivor of the accident. So, I'll be letting him out in a century or so. Not that there's much for him to do 'round here. Still, it's a bit of company."

"A pick- what?" Pick up lines, and flirting in general was a little out of Bill’s realm to grasp. It was why he usually had Ted initiate any interactions with the fairer sex. "Oh uh, yeah! I can definetly look around your ship if you need me too!"

"Nah, s'alright." Holly was a little disappointed, but he pretended not to be... however, he didn't put up a very convincing pretence. "Just thought you might be interested, that's all. Gets a bit lonely floating in deep space. I could do with a bit of company now and then. Still, never mind, ey? Off we pop."

He examined the box's controls, quickly figuring out how to use them. Well, at least he hoped he had figured it out correctly. Then he switched on the control that would take them where he needed to go.

Jim’s eyebrows arched up. He sucked in his lip, trying not to laugh, and glanced around the bridge. The analyst in charge of the viewscreen looked distressed, trying to figure out how the floating head had managed to take over the view of stars, trying to figure out where the signal was coming from.

Jim wasn’t worried. “Ah, not quite. Something like that.”

"No? Well, who's house is it then? Looks nice, whoever's it is. Very fancy!"

She looked around for a moment, spying what looked like equipment and computer systems, crew working the controls. Then, slowly but surely, realisation dawned on her.

"'Ere... Hang on a minute. This isn't a house... it's a ship!"

((Apologies for my inactivity on here!

Basically, this is my "just for fun" blog, the blog I use when I'm tired of serious plots and just need a bit of a laugh. Of all my RP blogs, Holly is usually the last one I check. It's is the least active of all my blogs. 

So responding here usually takes a bit longer, especially when I'm busy with offline stuff (which I have been lately)

I haven't forgotten that I owe threads and will certainly get to them! But I hope everyone doesn't mind waiting a bit.

The face on the screen startled the pilot. They hadn’t been expecting any waves, and receiving one from someone unknown was highly irregular. 

Also, she was fairly sure she hadn’t flipped the switch that would send the call to the screen. River had to do a double take.

"… No, this is the ship Serenity, ma’am. You… your call is corrupted. You seem to be missing a body."

"What? Ohhhhh, no," Holly smiled to herself, realising that there seemed to be a slight misunderstanding here.

"I can see the confusion. I'm not a person, I'm a computer! I just thought I'd just patch myself into your system here and have a look around. You don't mind, do you? Nice place you got here, by the way. Mmm, very stylish." To Holly, accustomed to staring at the same things all the time, any new place was stylish.

"Oh, the name's not 'mam,' by the way, it's Holly. I mean, you can call me 'mam' if you like, but that might be a bit silly, seeing as I'm not your mother! What's your name, then?"

"Most definitely off the mark, Mr. Head." He said, thinking a moment to try and remember where Liverpool was. "Oh! Like where the Beatles came from right?"

The Beatles were definitely more his dad’s bag when it came to music but that didn’t mean he hadn’t listened to some of it. They were pretty cool as far as pre-Van Halen music went. ” … Will I be able to come back here when you’re done?”

"Well, I don't see why not. I'll just borrow this box thingy for a few minutes and then you can have it back. 'Ere, you wanna look round my spaceship? That's not a pick-up line - just thought you might find it interesting, that's all."

Mouthing the computer’s supposed insult, it took the Doctor a moment to figure out what he even meant by the dig at his shoes. He’d forgotten that not everyone chose to wear trainers with a suit. Though honestly he wasn’t sure why more people didn’t- made running quite a bit easier. More comfortable in general, too. But not wanting to get in an argument about footwear with a computer, he elected to simply ignore the comment.

"I’m not quite that kind of doctor,” he qualified, giving another glance towards the remains of one of the crew members. “I mean I can make do with some basics, but that’s not why I’m called ‘the Doctor.’ And that’s a bit beyond me and… honestly probably most if not any doctor. In any time frame, on any planet.”  

Chuckling at Holly’s brief confusion, the Doctor returned his attention to the monitor he’d been looking at in the first place. “How long’s it been since the radiation spike?” he asked instead of looking it up in the ship’s logs for himself, assuming Holly’d probably not had someone to talk to in ages. Hence the snails/nails confusion.

"Oh," Holly was disappointed, but admittedly, he wasn't that disappointed. He hadn't really held out high hopes for saving the crew in the first place. Not at this point.

"Ah well. What are you a doctor of, then? Not fashion, obviously, so we can rule that one out. Maybe... er........."

"......geography?" With a suit like that, and the kind of physique that looked as though it might be accustomed to travelling, but not so accustomed to eating a good, substantial meal... Holly could easily picture this guy as a professional hitch hiker... or perhaps an ex-traveller-turned-geography-teacher. Still, he was only guessing, and might be completely off the mark.

How long? "Three million years," Holly replied. "Well, give or take a few decades here and there. Still, at this rate I think the radiation will be all cleared up soon. I give it maybe a century, so, not too long to wait now I s'pose."

Deanna watched in interest as the woman’s words made less and less sense. If she was understanding correctly, the…. entity had been separated from a ship only to end up near the Enterprise. The references to worms and rabbits seemed hopeful at least—the woman probably was from somewhere in the Federation. Still, a good translator might be about to translate an animal into something Deanna could recognize.

At the question, Deanna finally spoke up. “No, I do not. And none of the crew does, to my knowledge,” she added for good measure. “What species are you?” she asked.

Holly gave the person in front of her a very patient look, as though she was talking to a small child. "I'm not a species," she said. "I'm a computer, with an IQ of 6000." Then she rolled her eyes. "Ah, of course! Silly me! I bet you thought I was somewhere else, talking to you on the phone or something, ey?! Nah! I'm in here... in your electronic systems. 'Ere, watch this!"

She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, and made the lights flicker off and then back on again.

"Well I s'pose it's not a very good trick, but give me some time to learn the systems, and I can probably figure out how to do a bit more. My name's Holly. What's yours?"

"Captain Hernandez would be fine." Erika was just far too confused to really know what to say, at least. 

"Three… million? You realise that our shuttlepods couldn’t carry enough fuel for a mission that far. That’s not even within our galaxy, I don’t think." She was just confused. Not that that was entirely hard to do. She was far too tired to wrap her head entirely around it. "How about you start at the beginning and explain."

"Captain Hernandez," he nodded. "Right on." 

But when the Captain asked Holly to explain, Holly's face fell. "Explain? Ooh, blimey, that's a hard one, that is." He paused, thinking about it for a moment.

"Okay, well, it's like this. I was testing out the Hop Drive, trying to use it to hook up with another computer far away, but it went a bit wrong. See the thing about the Hop Drive is it's brand new, so I haven't had a chance to iron out all the flaws yet. I was trying to get back to Earth... only instead, I ended up here! Funny that, ey?" he giggled half heartedly. "Well, got to laugh, haven't you."

((Just so you know!

I may slow down a bit on all of my blogs. I’m still here, and still open to RPing and plotting, but I might get a little slow due to the fact that my offline life is getting a little busier than usual. I’m not putting my blogs on hiatus at the moment (because RPing is a good way to relax during this busy time!) but it might take me longer than usual to get replies out. (I’ll be on hiatus for a short period during february, but I’ll post that closer to the time)

If it takes me more than a week to respond to something, it’s most likely I missed the notification, so give me a nudge! This also goes for my other RP blogs - I’ll reblog this to my other blogs later (I’ll queue them so as not to spam the dash too much) ))

Holly's face appeared on the screen - a disembodied head just floating on a black background. Blinking in confusion, she glanced around, taking in her new surroundings.

"Ooh. This is a nice place you got here. This your house, is it?"

"I dunno. Is San Dimas 1988 part of the past?" He asked, eyes squinting.

For him nineteen eighty-eight didn’t feel like the past. It felt important in the way only the now can, though admittedly he was slowly learning that everyone felt that way about their respective time period. An odd and seemingly obvious little revelation but then he and Ted were fairly prone to those.

"Oh. Yeah. That's about... well, three million years ago, mate. Give or take about three-hundred, here or there."

"See, I was trying to get my ship back to Earth. Looks like I made it. Right place, wrong time. Well... I guess it's kind of the right place, anyway. I was aiming for Liverpool, still, not too far off the mark, ey?"

He paused, thinking it over for a few more moments, then made a decision about what to do next.

"Alright, look. I guess I'm stuck in this here telephone box of yours until I can find a way out. According to my data, there's no Jupiter Mining Cooperation in this time period. I gotta get back to my own ship. Mind if I borrow your box for a bit? I think I can figure out how to work it!"

"Holly, alright. I’m Captain Erika Hernandez, and this is my ship, Columbia, the NX-02.” She felt it best to introduce herself and her ship at the same time. While emphasising that it was her ship.

"You could always just ask for our help rather than borrowing our ship." Erika blinked a few times, thinking, then sighed and rolled her eyes. "But you’re already in our ship. Fantastic." She sighed again, then realised there was a better question than that, and one that really could make things a problem. "Where is your ship? We’re fighting a war right now and can’t really leave our area too much."

Holly didn't mean to be rude. He wouldn't take the ship by force, even if he could - theft wasn't his style. The fact was, he'd been alone for so long that he was accustomed to just speaking his thoughts out loud. Polite etiquette didn't usually occur to him. 

"Yeah," he said apologetically. "Sorry about that. I really cocked that up, didn't I? My ship, errr..." he hesitated, realising that this Captain probably wasn't going to like what he was about to say...

"...it's three million years away. Look, if you're a bit busy right now, perhaps you could let me borrow one of your shuttles instead. It really doesn't matter, so long as I get back home. Would that be alright, Erika? You don't mind if I call you Erika, do you? Or do you prefer to be called Rik? Or maybe just Ka, or Er?"
