today at work was so crazy ass and immensely frustrating that at one point half the department watched as i (immediate person in charge) stopped to keyhole shotgun a red bull in about ten seconds, pour test and all, to a general reaction of "jesus fucking christ" and my gay coworker later describing it as "hot". pretty sure one coworker said something about not knowing i could even do that but i was so frustrated with him i wasn't actually listening (part of why i had to shotgun a red bull to continue acting semi-normally)

#this is a weird one for me because i lived in a good few pretty major cities #but was too young to. yknow. do anything.#but i'm stuck as an adult that's since lived In The Middle Of Fuckall (real) and Middle Of Fuckall (classifable as a city still)#i like the idea of more options a lot. so i'd probably choose Major City over There's Four Places And One Is A Walmart #although i do like the fact that when we walk into the bar the bartender just brings over our drinks automatically on sight #and the fact that you can be doing some shit like “going off-trail in the woods to investigate a rock structure and encounter a random guy”#“[cont.] and when your hiking partner is automatically wary of a guy in the woods you can just be like what's up haven't seen ya in a while #plus in the city what are the odds of you encountering my work's Mayonnaise Lady [random dude saw her getting her drink and told my bro she #let him lick mayonnaise off her] only to be mutually telling the story at length and your OTHER coworker snaps her head around and says tha #it was her college roommate!! and she thought we heard that story from my other coworker #but no. it was a separate incident. the realization of two separate mayonnaise incidents dawned upon us like the invention of fire.#you have to work a lot harder at that sort of serendepity in a more populated area

Interaction witnessed at post office today:

Elderly lady mail clerk and young customer are chatting. Customer says, "oh! I'm wearing my boss's coat right now, give me something weird to put in the pocket!" Others within earshot all start looking for something because, hey, important quest. Mail clerk finally reaches under counter, pulls out a large roll of labels, and tears one off.

Perhaps my genuine biggest piece of socializing advice as someone who spent years of my life feeling wholly incapable of positively interacting with other people is to just ask the other person questions about themselves. Like that’s it. People love answering questions. They really love thoughtful follow-up questions. They love feeling like someone else is interested in them, their interests, their lives, their opinions. At some point in your questioning they will say something that reminds you of a funny / interesting story. Tell it. You will be remembered as the person who asks a lot of questions, makes people feel like they matter, and tells good stories. boom. done.
