Star Trek topic: For a while I was wondering why Khan was made white for the reboot. Well it turned out that Co-producer and co-screenwriter Roberto Orci said that they didn’t want to “demonize anyone of color. One of the points of the movie is that we must be careful about the villain within US, not some other race” and that it was uncomfortable to make a non-white person anything but heroic (out of fear of offending minorities) so they made him white for the reboot. Thoughts?

Orci is a trash person who yelled at fans for not worshiping him. The entire plot of STID exists because he’s a 9/11 Truther. I don’t believe that that was their true reason at all. He’s full of excuses.

Retiring Notice

Hey guys.

I’m not always as eloquent as @imadoctornotablog and I’m not really in the place to attempt it.

Jim Kirk, this blog, all of you, many of you that I will never forget even if you might not know it, they mean a lot to me. I’ve been here five years. Jim is not the same person- and neither am I.

I love you all very much, some of you exceptionally and without end, but tumblr is not good for my creative or emotional health, and I’ve been RPing in general for more than half my life. It got me through the darkest periods of my life, but in this moment it’s more of a crutch for me, one I may have to leave behind to develop.

I will be retiring Jim, and archiving his blog. Toby and I both want to leave you with something better than this, so we’re gonna finish off with some drabbles, and if there’s anything in particular any of you would like to see, I’d love to bring that to life for you one last time.

Thank you so much for taking this ride with me. I’ll see you again, if only in my memories.

📝 How did the mun react when he or she realized they wanted to write the muse? 👥 What is your favorite experience together as mun and muse?

“Oh. Oh fuck. I didn’t want this. Oh no it’s going to absorb my life.” And then it didn’t... and then it did again. It carries the memory of it being the one way to get my friends at the time to enjoy Star Trek. I just wanted to introduce everyone to my favorite and life-long fictional world. So. It probably seems overblown, but eh.

Oh man. I don’t want to pick. There are too many. A lot of sparks and embers, some brushfires that monopolized my time for a few weeks. There’s a lot of  people that I’ve connected very strongly with immediately, and they ebb and flow inevitably but in a lasting way so. I’’m being vague because every moment where we combine is a good moment for me.

No Rest for the Weary

“Captain, unauthorized person on board.”

“Since when?”

Uhura’s head tilted, eyes unfocused as she listened to her earpiece. She frowned, her gaze flicking upwards to meet Jim’s. “Unknown.”

“Anything unusual on the security grid, Lt Hendorff?”

“No sir.”

“Captain-”

“Mr Spock?”

“Unlikely that a stowaway would not have been recognized by our internal sensors.”

“I was thinking the same thing.”

“Captain-” Uhura spoke up again, her chair twisting to face him, “security has apprehended the individual and brought them to the brig.”

“Commander, you have the conn.”

“Sir-”

“I can take care of it myself, thank you.”

Once Jim reached the brig room, he slowed immediately. The individual in question had a strange appearance. Oh, he seemed human enough, Jim’s height at a guess, though with much more bulk. Long hair, rough hands. It was the clothing that eased Jim into a contemplative state. It wouldn’t have looked out of place in a historical vid, but it was certainly no fashion he’d seen in his lifetime.

He approached with relaxed ease, his hands folded behind his back. “Good morning. I’m Captain Kirk. What brings you aboard my ship today?”

Burning Longer Than Any Spark

Being in the spotlight as James T. Kirk is a very odd thing. It’s been over a decade since he stole the name and life of a dead boy with blue eyes, and if his choices for hiding were limited only to earth, it would’ve been a bad choice indeed for all the attention Kirk gets nowadays. After this he can hide somewhere in a nebula maybe. It won’t be hard to go out in flames in this persona.

At least, he didn’t think it would be hard... 

His crew, his doctor, had brought him back to life- at least they thought they had- after the incident with the warp core. It had triggered something in him, something that had been dormant since his first death, centuries ago, piloting a plane high in the sky before the shell had shattered around him, aflame, and he had plunged into the black waters.

A dozen lifetimes had passed since, a haze of confusion gradually fading into listlessness... Drunken abandon and sour absence. Pike had found him, mistaken him for the man he was pretending to be, and given him a chance he hadn’t taken since the Great War. (It started to seem insignificant in the faces of the wars since, in the eyes of history, but never in his own.)

He’d done his second Blaze of Glory, and now that he was still puttering around he didn’t know what to do with himself in this life.

He could do without all the recruitment tours though.

Look, when we got married the Klingons hadn’t joined the federation yet. Now that we’ve restructured, I’m not sure it counts! I think the only reasonable response is to get married again. And I think another honeymoon is required, no? The kids are old enough to take care of the horses, let’s go.

“They throw us all into institutions, in the end,” he cackles, snapping his teeth teasingly at the finger in his face. He’s in a mood. It doesn’t have a particular lean, good or bad as they expect, but it’s certainly a mood of some kind. The overreaching kind, maybe.

“I miss a little misadventure,” he sniffs, holding the bottle up above them. He peers through it to inspect the bend of light passing through the clear liquid.

Oh fine. He steals another quick drink and passes it back, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.

“Some of us a little more deservedly than others, but I’ll drink to that.”He doesn’t flinch back from the snap of teeth, but only because he didn’t really have time to. So instead he flashes a smile that’s more teeth than lip back, daring Jim to identify which of them he meant. He pauses before the bottle meets his lips, though, giving Jim a look.

“I don’t, he’s sitting next to me.” He can drain the rest and he knows it. He likely push past tipsy and into inhibition-less, then blame everything on the massive hangover the next day. Instead he barely pulls a mouthful, sticks to his anxieties, and puts the bottle down between them. “That being said, I’ve got an outstanding record of not ending up in the brig yet and I’d like to keep it that way.”

Jim reaches for the bottle- his bare arm dangles over it, the tip of his fingers brushing the mouth- but frankly he’s not really... into it. It’s not as interesting as, say. Bones.

He eases in the space between them. They’re not touching but it’s a close thing; he half-hovers over the man, bent forward, and if someone yanked on his arm he’d overbalance right on top of him.

“Who says we’d get caught?”

“Is that it? I admit I was expecting a bit more…ambitious from you, Captain. Or perhaps more adventurous.” Surfing from world to world sounded much like the human pass-time of couch surfing she’d been told about since joining Star Fleet. And from what she’d experienced, he had more of a taste for recklessness than most anyone she’d ever met.

“We can’t all be industrious from the first, Yeoman,” he laughed, shrugging. He didn’t seem to bothered by her negative response. He had been a very different person then, had rejected the values he had because they seemed to bring misfortune. Had deliberately wasted his own talents.

Xenoarcheology was big for the man he had left behind in Iowa that fateful night. “Where would you be?”

“Yeah well,” he mutters, on the edge of a sulk, “I didn’t get any.”

He looks at J’Son sideways, shifting awkwardly… And scurries over to him. They’re about the same height, now that he’s an adult, but even then he manages to duck down so his head presses against J’Son’s shoulder, wrapping his arms around his adopted father’s waist. “Hi dad.”

J’Son allowed himself a moment of surprise at how much he’d changed. He was taller and broader.

“Hey, Jimmy,” he said the nickname rolling off his tongue much quicker then ‘James’.

He held him for a moment before patting him on the back.

“What did I miss?”

He shrugs, refusing to let go, his eyes half-open. It’s been a while since anyone familial has really been this close. It’s been a lonely fistful of months, going from six to one.

“I’m in Starfleet now.”
