Middle School Teacher

After graduation I thought it would be nearly impossible to find a teaching position in my field. I am a certified English as a Second Language Teacher in the state of NJ. Although there are many needs for ESL teachers in my state it is difficult to obtain a position straight out of college.

I was fortunate enough to receive an offer for a position. I went to my interview telling myself “just be yourself.” Most of the time teaching positions posted are “ghost position” where the district opens a position and they already have someone they would like to hire in mind however, they still have to interview people for the position. However, I was lucky enough that that wasn’t the case for the position I was interviewing for.

I went in there with my best foot forward. I was myself 110% of the way and I am glad that I decided to be myself because that got me the job. I couldn’t believe when they called within an hour of my interview for the position. No second interview and no demo lesson. I cried from excitement!

Today I am honored to be the new Middle School ESL teacher for the district. I can’t wait to see my room and receive my student roster. September hurry up already!
