So my roommate has this quirk. I don't even know what to say because this has got to be the laziest of lazy thing to do. I'm usually gone every weekend and I come home Monday morning to find - this. I don't want to snap but I am literally going crazy! HELP!

What a Damn Shame

This weekend I came to the conclusion that 99% of all the arguments my girlfriend and I have is stemmed off of financial issues. Not surprising considering money is the leading cause of stress in relationships. I was sick this weekend with some sort of stomach bug/ food poisoning shit or something.  And our argument started off with her getting annoyed with my sickness, when actuality she was annoyed at the fact I’m having pretty much constant foot nerve pain and can’t afford the doctor. You see, I work full time as a case manager for adults with disabilities. Let’s be honest, what I do is important work and work that nobody wants to do. I have to write and implement programs, which requires a lot of time and paperwork, intervene in crisis situations, act as a counselor and advocate for my client’s needs and wants, sometimes I have to do hands-on poop, piss, and blood… but the worst is dealing with the behaviors.

I received my bachelors in human services and I’m in process of getting my masters in Social Work.  So I have education and I need continuing education for the work that I do. So tell me, why can I work at a fast food restaurant or be a truck driver for a mail delivery company (I’m trying to not use company names) and get paid the same or even more than what I’m making now?

That’s where the title comes in: What a Damn Shame.

No one in this industry does it for the money, that’s one thing for sure across the board. I absolutely love my job even though it’s stressful and I’m pretty sure it is causing me to get sick more often. I can’t imagine abandoning my clients for more money.

But the fact is: I need to pay my bills. I need to go the doctor. I need to get my f***ing car air conditioning fixed because I can’t handle another 90 degree day stuck in this Chicago traffic!

Ultimately what is happening here is experience. Lessons of all sorts. Nothing is coincidence and nothing is made by mistake. I’m confident that it will get better. Things will get better but difficult in another area because lets’ face it, that’s life. If I don’t change something then this issue will continue.

The question is, what do I change?

That Michigan Gal

First things first - Welcome to my blog! I honestly have no idea what I’m doing here starting a blog. My first thought was this was going to be a great escape from reality – or – it could be a bitchfest.

I’m a 31 year-old Michigan gal living in the suburbs of Chicago. I have a lot to my story but for my first post, I’ll keep it simple. I’m not the writing type so forgive me as I make many grammar and spelling errors. I’m hoping to give you a sense of humor through my writing but I also want to bring up deep and touchy topics. Let’s let it out!

Come this fall of 2018 I’m starting my second go for my Master’s. That’s right, second.  I completed just one semester of my Master’s program back in Michigan (and I’ll tell you more about why I’m here another time).  I’m pretty confident that working 40 hours at a full time job, 15 hours a week/5 classes, and 250 hours/semester at a field placement is going to leave my life very chaotic.

And I’m completed terrified.
