We were inspired by the "Let's Draw Sherlock" blog to create a similar project for fanfic writers. Challenges are posted approximately every two weeks. See the current challenge post for guidelines and more information, and please read the FAQ before asking a question.

wait, what is Miniseries March?

Miniseries March is a four week fanfic and fanart event in which participants fuse BBC Sherlock with another favorite T.V. series currently out of production. This year, we will be broadcasting from March 5th - April 1st.

We’re back for another season! 

Once again, we challenge YOU, lovely members of this lovely fandom, to produce fusions of Sherlock with your favorite TV show of days gone by (that is, any TV show which is not expected to produce new episodes.) 

If you’re interested in writing a fic for the challenge, check out our author participation guidelines here.  And once you’ve read the guidelines, sign up here to write a fic for the second season! 

The sign-up form asks for only a bit of basic info about your plans for your contribution to the challenge; once we receive your signup, we will be in touch, to let you know how and when to send us more detailed information.

As most of you voted for a new challenge every month rather than every two weeks, that’s exactly what will happen. Thank you for your votes!

In this case, the Sherlock Challenge will start July 1st. Get your pens, pencils & computers ready!

What is Sherlock Challange? Inspired by the no more active Let’s draw/write Sherlock, I have decided to make a new space for creative Sherlockians. Sherlock Challenge welcomes all - artists, writers and other - to work with a new prompt every month.

Miniseries March sign-ups are now open!

We’re back in hiatus, Sherlock fandom, so how are we going to fill our time? With TV show fusions, that’s how!

We’re inviting all fandom authors and artists to participate in our spring miniseries season, creating crossovers or fusions with Sherlock and any television show that began airing before the year 2000. (what’s the difference between a crossover and a fusion? Don’t worry, you’re welcome to participate either way.) During the month of March, we will be posting weekly TV Guides with cover art and listings for all participating fics (examples here.) We will also reblog art for the challenge and updates for every participating fic.

To the Nervous, To the Sensitive, To the Just Starting Out

Any time I see a post listing all the tropes and cliches people hate in fic, I flinch. My skin is tough, but I know a lot of people– from veteran writers to newbies– who don’t have a thick hide. I know when people post those sorts of things (and gosh, I know I am probably guilty of it, too), they are just blowing off steam. Often those posts begin with something along the lines of “This is just my opinion, but” and they mean no actual harm. But all I can think about are all those young writers just starting out in fandom or those writers with a bit thinner skin, and I worry that they are going to take those posts as a sign that their writing isn’t wanted, that they are failures, that they have no original ideas. 

To them I say:

You are wanted, you are not a failure, and you have wonderful, brilliant ideas just waiting to be written. I want to read your fics. I will roll around in your tropes and cliches and absolutely love them. We have them in the first place because people recognize and find comfort in them. Tropes are fun, and cliches are shorthand for conveying often complex issues or emotions. Pick up any book or flip on the TV and start counting. We like to see the same stories told with new twists, and what you bring to it will be new. No one else has tried to write exactly the way you are going to. Don’t lose heart just because some people don’t care for certain things. I assure you, there will be an audience for your fic. 

Get to writing.

I thought I'd pass on this bit of advice as my last post. I know LWS had a lot of first time writers and I hope all of you keep writing. Creating and sharing is the best thing about fandom. Like all good things, Let’s Write Sherlock is coming to an end, but before I put the chairs on the tables and hit the lights, I want to thank each and every one of you who took part in the challenges, whether it was by creating something, reblogging, or leaving comments/kudos. You are the reason that this blog stayed active for as long as it did. I don’t think fic writers get nearly enough love in this world, so getting to run a blog that encouraged people to write was one of the best things I have ever been a part of in fandom. You all are fabulous and running this blog meant a lot to me. So, thank you.

I know, I never advertise fic updates. But this time I updated a couple of days before my usual day, and some of you might have missed that, so I’m giving you the link.It is my winglock, and we’re two months from ending (which I promise will be happy, even if we’re now deep in angst).
