letterstoapenpal is on pause!!

Due to basically school and my life at the moment it's really difficult to continue working on this project so I'm putting it on pause for the moment. Hopefully I can pick it back up again in the future once I've found a balance to my new lifestyle. College is crazy guys! To those of you that I haven't matched up with a pen pal yet I am very sorry, but it will have to wait. This is not easy for me because I really want to continue this project, I love it very much, but I also realize that my schooling is really important right now and needs to come first.

I feel like I'm making too many of these posts, and I probably am, but apologies again for my late replies! I've been caught up with moving to my college dorm and starting my classes and yesterday I actually got pretty sick for no reason for like the third time in about 2 weeks. So again, sorry for my late replies. I'm hoping that over the weekend I will be able to revisit the messages I've gotten and send out some responses!

At this moment I haven't been receiving any surveys so I'm about to go on another promoting binge to hopefully get more people interested in this project. It definitely helps if you reblog the post I will make and tell your friends about the project, make your own post about it on tumblr! Anything helps to spread the word :)

You might not be hearing back from me for about a week or so. I've just gotten my wisdom teeth out yesterday morning so I've been staying away from technology since I'm on very strong pain killers. Sorry for the delay and I promise that as soon as I'm feeling better and have finished recovering I will continue matching people up and messaging those who have contacted me. I apologize profusely to those of you who might not have heard from me at all and those who haven't heard from me in quite awhile. 

I've had some people retract their surveys and it's a little difficult to organize who is still interested so if you are someone that hasn't heard from me at all/recently and you are still interested in getting a pen pal then please message me! Feel free to pester me! 

I also understand that communication on Tumblr can be difficult, sometimes messages get lost and other times I lose a chance to contact those who have submitted a survey because their ask/submit is turned off on their blog. This is really no ones fault, its just unlucky and I really hate to just let it go by, I'd like to fix it if I can!

Mostly I just urge you not to get frustrated, as I am trying my best to match people up! Again, contact me if you're still interested and haven't heard from me and I'll be able to tell you what your specific situation is!

I have a friend who doesn't have access to the internet, and is interested in finding a pen pal. Is there any way I can sign sign her up? She's specifically looking for a lesbian/bisexual pen pal. She's bi herself and wants to meet more people in the "community"

For that, I'd have to say no. I'd be okay with you signing up for her, but I don't match people up based on their sexuality. I don't ask about peoples sexuality because it's none of my business.

If someone is concerned about their pen pals open-mindedness then the most I would ever ask of someone is if they are open-minded enough to not judge. I want people to be comfortable, but at the same time I'm not necessarily willing to cross a line into asking about someone's specific sexuality because I feel that's private information. 

I hope this helps and I'm sorry if it doesn't. Perhaps if your friend is open to just having a friendly ear to listen to her then you should sign her up, but I'm not asking anyone about their sexuality.

Distance can be hard sometimes and I know that stamps don't come cheap these days so if someone is willing to email instead that would be very helpful!

Letters written to pen pals are typically through snail mail. However, I've gotten a few people that if their pen pal is further away they would rather email their letters and then there are others who prefer to email their pen pals first to get to know them and then they later switch to writing letters. 

So it depends on what each individual wants. I'm not setting a rule on this because I want people to be as comfortable as possible.

How long of a wait is too long?

I'm think that I'll give people about 10 days to respond to my messages that I've found them a pen pal before I decide to start re-assigning pen pals just because I don't want people to have to wait super long to get their pen pal.

Does this sound fair or should it be longer?

For safety reason is it okay to just give a first name?

Absolutely :) 

Nobody is required to give their full name, you could even give just a nickname if you wanted.

if we aren't comfortable using our real address at first, can we start off with email and then once we get to know our penpals, switch to letters?

As long as the pen pal I match you up with is okay with emailing first then I don't see why not, but some people want absolutely no internet contact with their pen pal beforehand.

If I accidentally send you a message that asks about your address, but you've already given me your address then just ignore that part of the message lol. 

Its a little hard to keep track of who's already given me an address and who hasn't so, forgive me!
