Redesign of mechanic metronome
My aim was to create design of metronome suitable for today interiors, to emphasize its fuction as an actual furniture and last but not least- to create something that is not just a functional mechanism, but also a sculpture. Something that would be elegant, but has also given an exact function.
The shape of metronomes has been aslmost the same since it was invented. Nowadays mechanical metronoes copy or has the shape of truncated pyramid. There is no surprise people call it “traditional” or “old” metronome. Our interiors have changed. Why not the metronomes, things that are always on the sight?
The purpose was creating new look of the metronomes that people would find attractive, to use quality materials, to support local craftsmen and add a story behind the product.
The beauty itself is based on used materials. I chose to differ from traditional materials. I wanted this metronome to be a reflection of space where it would be used. Of course wood would still be one of the options. It was essential to come up with the way to build in the machine within the base from different materials without complications.
If the machine would be attached to the base, there si possibility to change material of the body without difficulties. Machine would be standing on three support screws and fixed by matrixes from both sides. Because of this solution, there is possible to use almost any material-such as concrete, stone or glass that I chose to make a prototype from.
The glass that I chose to used was made in Světlá nad Sázavou where glass has been made for centuries. All the procedures were handmade, some of them I made myself. Small parts were made in cooperation with faculty of mechanical engineering, CTU. All the iron parts are made from stainless steel.
Bentwood Sexual aid
UUU is a sexual aid primarily for people with reduced mobility and spinal cord injury. It serves as a stool with a rubber bridge that helps to carry the weight of a person. It lifts the man and makes movement easier.
For people with spinal cord injury is very important that the other person would not sit with all his weight on their body. That could cause serious trouble and this product is helping them with this problem.
UUU is made of beech roundwood, a typical material for wood-bending. The construction was made by the company TON from their prefabricated elements of 002 chair. Textile elastic is stretched over the construction. The aim of this project was to detabuize and start a conversation about sexuality of disabled people.
Hydroponic system
Hi Drop is porcelain system for growing herbs indoor that is based on hydroponics. This system was primarily designed for people living in cities that would be interested in growing something of their own, but it was also designed as an aesthetic household complement. It is easy to manipulate with and it could provide nutrients to a plant for almost 3 weeks. The whole system is consists of porcelain base bowl on which sits a wooden lid with three holes for porcelain flowerpots and glass jar that is filled with water solution. Self-sufficiency lies in dropping water solution from glass jar to porcelain base and it fills in right amount of water that the plant needs. Hydroponics does not use soil , but little rocks that suckes water in. Tanks to that the plant is less predisposed to be threatened by diseases.
Form for czech cake
This form for traditional czech cake was created as an origami. It was created by folding one piece of paper. From this principle comes multifunctionality of the product. It could be used as underlay for hot pans or a fruit bowl. The shape of the form was naturally derived by paper folding, therefore there are quite sharp lines, but it also refers to shapes of cubism. First I designed the form as paper form that would be folded by a customer, but after cunsultations I came to conclusion that it would be better to make it more pernament. From this idea I designed a form from sheet metal and silicone. The prototype was made from gympsum.
Glasses for blind people
One of my other designs are glasses for blind people that I made in studio Streit- Polák. I decided to make something that market does not provide- one piece glasses. There is no glass nor hinges added. In my research I found out that that people withh ocular disability mostly use sunglasses. Nevertheless, the usability of the product changes here. Instead of protecting the vision, blind people usually wear them to protect surroundings. During the process of designing I emphasized the importance of ergonomy. the glasses could be adjusted for any shae of face thanks to right bending. They are made from just one sheet of metal that is 1mm strong.
Another plus is very easy production, the shape was simply cut by laser and then it was colored by powdered color. Among other pluses are resistance against damage, they protect from inteference of outer objects such as branches and last but not least, they are suprisingly light. Reason why I decided not to attach hinges is that from the research I found out that the user would put them on at home, wear them all the way outside (and inside) and they would put them down also at home. So the folding into the case is not necessary.
Vertical clock Parallel
Clock Parallel is primarily designed for public space. For this purpose I built them in citylights, that already take place all around cities for comercial purposes. This is a type of vertical number row is divided into three, where the fist row shows seconds, second row shows minutes adn the third row shows hours. They keep spinning and the actual time is highlighted by colored pointer.
