Even though the full moon sounds of street drag racing kept me awake until 2am, I made it up in time to be at a store at 7am with a smile to have my coloring books and stickers be added to their line of merchandise. Afterwards, running on coffee fumes, I thought it would be a good time to hit the grocery store before it got really full of people standing and staring and farting up the place. While I was putting my groceries on the conveyor belt, the cashier asked how I was, and I said the usual thing: "Living the dream." . A lot of people don't realize I am sincere: all I used to dream about as a kid was listening to music and drawing things most of the day, and now as an adult-sized person I am doing mostly that. Sometimes I also write, dance around the kitchen, and nap. When one is a "living-the-dream-er", one prepares to be immediately responded to as though one has made a corny, ironic observation, or broken wind opulently before the third course at a fancy restaurant. This manifests itself occasionally with someone who wants to be in on the joke, and today my cashier said "If this is the dream, I'd hate to see the #nightmare." . In a cute little WinCo time warp moment, sleepyheaded me thought of all the times my #dreams took me to weird places that I felt compelled to write about when I woke up. Like the society of sentient killer whales who plotted their revenge against the all-polluting human race by constructing a murderminded AI poised to infect all of the world's phones and stoplights. It then occurred to me that in real life for people alive on the planet right now, there are far more nightmarish things than having basic health insurance and money to buy a week's worth of food that you get to cook in a home with a real kitchen. Like not having the money to buy that food, or cooking on a hot plate next to the toilet which also does double duty as a prep table. Catching the Omega variant of Covid. Or being elderly in a country ruined by war and terror while one of your favorite walking legs is missing. . "I'd like to avoid a nightmare, also." I said. .
