Dawn was going to have her baby naturally. There was no question about that. She ate only organic vegan food. She hadn’t taken so much as an Advil in years. She spent many hours each week practicing yoga and going on energetic runs around her neighborhood, even now that she was nearly two weeks overdue. When the contraction was over, she found her phone and started playing a calming playlist she had put together the month before.

Dawn’s labor progressed quickly once reaching the hospital. She joked with the nurses as they came in and out, hardly paying any attention to her increasingly frequent contractions. She turned to Greg, smiling. “I think this kid is about ready to fall out,” she quipped.
