the passage of time is my worst fuckin enemy
just woke up from a dream where a Direct/E3/similar event revealed a new trailer for Pokémon Winds and Waves that had nothing in common with the original trailer, an indie game featuring legally-distinct Jed and Octavius, a mystery puzzle game set on an island that “flooded” with ghostly water every night and the locals were just used to it, and a new Ace Attorney Investigations game that had multiple interwoven story modes for different prosecutors (Edgeworth, Klavier, Blackquill and Franziska)
and now I’ve woken up and only one of those games actually exists but not in the way brain thought it did :(
“What if I write it and it’s bad-”
WHAT IF YOU WRITE IT AND ITS GOOD? WHAT IF YOU WRITE IT AND ITS EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANTED? WHAT THEN????
Reblog if you will never. Ever. Use AI in your writing.
Its so fucking crazy how the plot of kingdom hearts as a franchise hinges on donald duck being a dick for no reason and not letting riku go with them ont he gummi ship. FOR NO REASON
how it feels to read 85 pages of a book in one sitting
#oh look!#it's the creature outside the car window from when I was a kid
I love how universal it was to have a car window creature (mine was a lady who was gathering materials as she ran. Like flowers and wood and such)
I had a bus-window creature from when I sat at the back of my school bus: a “water” skier being pulled along behind the bus, doing jumps and tricks with his skis to match the lines in the middle of the road
In my opinion, wondering whether or not you’re a good person or a bad person isn’t really a constructive or useful activity.
You’re too close to yourself to make that kind of judgement. You’re not really qualified to judge the exterior of a house that you’re always standing inside of.
Anyways since I’ve switched to the mindset of “I’m just gonna keep trying and not try to pass final judgement on myself because that’s above my pay grade” I have unsurprisingly had way less nights sobbing on the floor convinced that I’m a terrible irredeemable piece of human garbage.
Am I good? Am I bad? Not my business. I’m just gonna keep trying to do better and let the cards fall where they may.
My relationship with myself has improved a lot in general since I stopped trying to reach perfection.
Am I even expected to be perfect? Nah. I’m just some guy. Am I a good guy? A bad guy? A neutral guy? I dunno. I’m just a guy that’s trying. And that’s fine.
Me and myself don’t need to be in competition with each other for absolute perfection. We can just hang out. Eat a sandwich. Get some stuff done. Take a nap. Try to do a little better. That’s all we can do, really.
i really need to shake some people and say “being passive in every situation does not mean you are not making active choices and it does not absolve you from harming others. consistently choosing to do nothing in every situation and believing that you couldn’t have possibly been the problem because you chose inaction and not a more agressive approach can in fact also be harmful.” because this keeps happening and its driving me nuts
I assure you: somebody, somewhere, is on the exact same wavelength as you are.
Me: I much prefer Prehistoric Park over Jurassic Park bc it actually cares about the animals more than the people. IDC if Chris Pratt gets to kiss actress-whose-name-I-have-to-look-up (Bryce Dallas Howard) before the Scary Dinosaur inevitably DOESNT eat them for plot armour reasons, I want to see Head Keeper Bob jousting with the triceratops to get his (the triceratops’s) Grumpies out and Head Vet Suzanne show concern over whether modern antibiotics would harm a T-Rex.
Also Me: *makes a human Prehistoric Park OC with way too much human baggage*
"My fandom is so small we could fit on-" SHUT UP. PLS SHUT THE FUCK UP.
unpopular opinion probably but I actually like that ao3 doesn’t let people take back their kudos.
unlike social media platforms (which ao3 is not) where people unlike stuff whenever they think or find out the original posters’ moral compass doesn’t perfectly align with their own’s or whatever, and “likes” can be taken back at any time, ao3 treats kudos as something sacred. once you give it, it’s the author’s to keep forever.
Best part is if someone deletes their account, the kudos remains, and it just gets swapped over to a guest kudos instead. The body is gone but the love remains.
shout out to that scam account that told me they were so inspired by my dialogue (there was no dialogue in that chapter) that they “wanted to collab”… and left kudos to sell the bit.
when I proceeded to not fall for it, the comment and account were deleted… but the kudos was untouchable
sucks to suck scambot, I got more benefit out of that than you did
AO3 Writer Affirmations:
I do not have to reinvent the wheel every time I write fanfiction
I do not have to make every chapter's word count above 1,000 in order for it to be good
It is okay if some things don't make sense
I can write whatever I want
I am writing this shit for free
If people don't like my stuff, they can block me. If they're being mean about it, I can block them.
The most important part of writing fanfiction is having fun
Writing fanfiction is supposed to be fun
I do not have to appeal to people
This shit is fun
I am doing this all for free, and anyone who objects can go eat wet sand and worms from the sidewalk
i read an anecdote ages and ages ago from a gay person who grew up with gay parents, and struggled to find any kind of belonging in the gay community because everyone else there was bonding over having homophobic parents. everyone else was defining themselves by their suffering and oppression rather than by their sexuality, leaving this gay person to feel like they weren't really gay because they didn't have the right experiences. they wondered whether more gay people would feel this way as more children grew up with gay parents, if the gay community would leave them behind for not having suffered enough. i think about that anecdote a lot.
a lot of the current rhetoric around gender reminds me of that anecdote. a lot of people are willing to go "transgender people are oppressed for their gender presentation, therefore if you're not oppressed for your gender presentation, you're not trans." but i don't think we should be defining ourselves by our suffering and oppression. what will we do, in a few years, in a few decades, as there start to be, say, adults who were supported in their transition as children? what will we do when a stereotypical trans person can genuinely say they didn't suffer hardship for being trans?
i'm afraid i know the answer. i'm afraid that people are going to close ranks as they've already started closing ranks against intersex people, against nonbinary people, against double binary people, against closeted people. as some people have started closing ranks against people who transitioned in the opposite direction from them. as many people have closed ranks against people with edge case gender experiences. "i don't consider you to be oppressed, therefore you are not welcome to share in this community you might otherwise belong in."
i wish people would understand that we shouldn't do this. i wish people would understand that we benefit from a broader, more inclusive community more than we benefit from whatever purity testing oppression olympics it is that i keep running into.
my parents are lesbians. there was no "coming out" for my sisters and i. (me as Queer, my youngest sister as bi.)
and i think it made me safer, for those who struggled. in college i was THE person to come out to. my parents changed so many of my friends lives by showing yes, you can be gay and you can get married and you can have 2.5 kids and a minivan and a mortgage. like, you can be queer and have a "normal life."
i think, because i had the security of a supportive family, that it made others feel more secure in a way? in who they are? they knew around me they were going to have unwavering support. that for our time together they didn't have to worry about rejection or physical danger. being gay or trans or whatever was just...a part of my everyday life. and it meant that that girl who came out as trans in 2008 in small town montana could have that too.
i guess, what i'm saying is, i think-as things go on and being under the lgbtq+ umbrella becomes just as normalized as being left handed or having green eyes-there will be space to share joy. that community can be built around the bliss that comes with embracing who you ARE rather than what has been DONE to you.
one of the best feelings tbh
YOU. WILL. WRITE. oh you want to write so bad. all the motivation is here. the plot is so good. words come to you so naturally. YOU ARE GOING TO WRITE. RIGHT NOW.
