PROJECTS TIME
Hello ,
I hope you are doing well and achieving your goals or in the process of doing it. Since the summer academy finished, I have started different activities to share with other people all what I learned at the summer academy. I think that it is important to do this because in that way the change and the positive impact that we all want to make, will be bigger. So, first I started sharing my experiences at DGLA with teachers and students from my university. As a result, we made a service project for the school “Santa Rosa de LLanavilla”, it is located in Villa El Salvador, a poor district in my city. We taught children and their parents about hydroponics, a different method of growing plants. Also, we developed some workshops about recycle and ecofriendly activities with children, always promoting environmental awareness.
Also, since December 2013, I have been one of the administrator of an organization that belongs to the Ministry of Environment in Peru, it is the Red Universitaria Ambiental known as RUA, in my university is called RUA UCSUR. As one of the administrator, I attend to some meetings at the Ministry of Environment so that I could share with the RUA of other universities the activities that RUA UCSUR have been doing during the year. We do volunteering and sometimes we help the Ministry of Environment to organize activities in order to make peruvians become aware of the Climate Change impacts in Peru. As RUA UCSUR, we have done volunteer work in beach clean ups and environmental awareness. Thanks to a joint effort between RUA and the organization Life Out Of Plastic (L.O.O.P.) in the event called Hazla por tu playa. We picked up about 708 Kilograms (1560 lb) of trash in the beach Santa Rosa, in the district of Ancon. Last year, RUA UCSUR volunteers helped to clean up the beach Venecia, a beach near to my university.
RUA UCSUR develop some activities to inspire and encourages people from our university to take action to change the world in a positive way, without considering if the fields of their studies are related to the environment or not.
Finally, I realized the service project that I planned in Canada, I did it for the Earth Hour, I choosed that day because I wanted that all my community get involved in this. I talked with children about the actions that we could do every day in order to preserve the environment. Then, they saw a video of Ozy Ozono, the video was about the changes that our planet is suffering because of our irresponsible actions. Then, they paint the phrase Earth Hour in Spanish, Hora del Planeta. We finished this project writing all together our commitments in recycle papers. I really enjoy this project and I know they did, too.
Many of my classmates and teachers at university know about the project that I did in my community so they are in hope of other activities so they could get involve. Therefore, I have decided to create a facebook page where I could share about some service projects and contact with people or organizations that want to help on them. It will be called NAYARAK, it is a word in quechua, a traditional language in my country. NAYARAK means a person who has many dreams. I will send you the link soon, because I have not finished to design the logo yet.
I hope you enjoy reading about these small actions that really count if we want to make a change in the world. So, I encourage you to make the service project that you planed at DGLA 2013 come true. I wish you the best. Remember to enjoy life and put your heart into everything you do.
