For me, I started drawing since a very young age so my life is basically stuck with art. I studied visual arts in high school and I'm currently majoring in art and cultural studies. I would say drawing sure requires a well-built foundation but that doesn't mean great artists must've been to art schools. Schools provide resources and tuitions but I have friends that are self-taught and still do great. Personally I hate art schools because I hate to be told what to draw, so now I'm writing essays more than I actually draw. I create these in my spare time only, and practice makes perfect. So yes I studied art in school, but that's not the reason why I did great :)
