"You know who else you should write to?"
Gaara already knew where this was going. "Hinata."
"Exactly," Kankuro said, and there was that tone again, the one that made Gaara uncertain of what his brother was actually saying. "You two write pretty often, don't you?"
"Yes," Gaara said. "We correspond regularly."
"Right," Kankuro said, turning to look at him with clear amusement. "And I'm sure she'd love to hear from you. You know, tell her you've been thinking about her. That kind of thing."
Gaara considered this. He did think about Hinata. When letters arrived from Konoha, he hoped her name would be on one of them. When she wrote, her words stayed with him long after he'd finished reading. But there was nothing unusual about that. She was important to him.
"I will tell her I've been thinking about her," Gaara said. It was the truth, after all.
Kankuro's shoulders shook slightly as he tried to contain his laughter. "Yeah, do that. Really make it clear how much she matters to you."
Gaara frowned. "Should I not tell her that?"
"No, no," Kankuro said, wiping his eyes. "You should definitely tell her. Just put some feeling into it, you know?"
Gaara didn't know. He never fully did when Kankuro spoke like this, with that underlying amusement that suggested meaning beneath the words. He thought about his letters to Hinata, the way he tried to choose words carefully so she would understand what he meant. Perhaps he should tell her more directly that she mattered to him.
Gaara hesitated. "What if that is too much? What if she does not want to receive such statements from me?"
Kankuro laughed again, and this time it was genuine, full-bodied laughter that echoed across the balcony. Gaara watched his brother, trying to understand what was funny about the idea of telling Hinata she was important to him.
I can’t wait to share the Gaara x Hinata moments and how their friendship will develop. Of course, Sasuke is her best friend, but the bond she’ll share with Gaara will be different. Think platonic soulmates. Though, Kankuro will be assuming their friendship is something else, lol and due to Gaara’s lack of understanding social cues and friendships, it will be some comedic moments of teasing from his siblings 😂
