Welcome to Drearwood, LI JIA . We are so happy to have the child of LI SHANG/FA MULAN here at Drearwood! We heard you look like CHOU TZUYU, go by SHE/HER and are EIGHTEEN years old. . Well, Bippidi Boppodi Boo!

Jia is the youngest of the Li family, and she’s felt it her entire life.

Not only is she the youngest daughter of Mulan, the woman who saved China and a well regarded general, she’s the smallest of her siblings and the least athletic.

She has always tried to be a bad ass like the rest of her family, but she never had a natural knack for it and is significantly worse at combat or even any physical pursuits.

she was much softer, more soft spoken, and spoke less. It mostly came from the fact that the others in her family always had something to say, so she usually listened rather than attempting to talk over them

She feels like sha’s a disappointment to her family, since she much prefers more “feminine” pursuits like make up and cooking. She does try to toughen herself up when her family is around, but she feels like she’s faking it to make them happy.

She loves her family more than anything, though, and would do anything for them,even if it means faking her feelings and identity for their “benefit”

Shes still new so I need to develop her a little but I’m really excited to have her interact with you guys!

She’s right, despite his love for his underwater kingdom Finley did have a hard time explaining it. “I think … I think it’s because I can’t give it proper justice.” He bites his lip, wondering how he could find the proper words to describe it. “Like, the palace is massive. There’s a million bedrooms and long hallways you could get lost in, and don’t even started on the concert hall.” He says, picturing it fondly. “I wasn’t born there, but we visit often since it’s so close by.”

Jia tried to imagine it, a life underwater, a palace of never ending rooms. She had an active imagination, but she doubted even the beautiful image in her mind came close. “A concert hall?” she said, her eyes somehow lighting up even more. “An underwater concert sounds incredible! Though... can you hear it very well? I just know I can’t hear myself talk when I’m in water.”

When her hand moves into his own he feels his heart get struck with what seems like lightening. It was all he could do to control himself, to not pull her into his arms or kiss her right then. But, he had told himself to take things slow - to ease into this instead of tumbling head first. A bit of a wasted effort, really, considering how gone he already was for her.

Her words only go straight to his head, furthering his happiness and he squeezes her hand as she talks, hanging on to every word. ‘I’m really glad I met you too.’ He says when she’s finished, wanting to stroke her cheek but holding himself back yet again. He’s never sure how far to take it, even if he wants to. ‘It might sound strange but I want to know everything about you that I can - anything that I can.’

After hearing her parents’ stories dozens if not hundreds of times, she thought her first love would be a more gradual thing. Perhaps an initial attraction, sure, but she could have only dreamed to fall this fast for someone and thinking that he was falling just as quickly. The butterflies in her stomach all did a flip as he squeezed her hand, such a subtle way to show fondness but she was hypersensitive to him now.

She giggled, using the hand Harlow wasn’t holding to fix a strand of hair behind her ear. “Well, how about we just... ask each other questions?” she offered, looking up at the projected image for a moment before adding “Unless you want to watch the movie..”

Amelise giggles, patting the other on the shoulder in mute sympathy. Nodding along the princess eventually beams at the girl - ‘ It seems as if we are both in deep.’ She admits to her, giggling again. ‘Oh quite. He’s magical, but I’m sure you can understand if you’ve fallen for someone yourself.’ She brightens even more as a thought occurs to her - ‘ Perhaps we can be friends!’

Jia giggled, unable to stop herself. Sure, she didn’t know this girl at all, but they clearly already had something in common. Plus, Jia was always open to new friends. “Well, if we’re going to be friends, I need to know your name, right?” she said with a smile. “I’m Jia.”

Finley nods, it was a pretty wonderful place and he wished more people were able to experience it. “No no, it’s fine. Trust me. I love talking about Atlantica, it makes me feel less home sick sometimes.” He could easily talk off anyones ear about his home country, he missed it so much he made him feel like he never left.

“Then...” she started, wondering if she was pushing her luck. “... I’d love to hear more. I’m just confused because you love talking about it but say its an ‘I have to see it’ sort of thing, so I don’t want to ask you to do something difficult, or anything...”

“It’s..” Finley doesn’t know how to explain it. It’s not like it’s a hard question to answer, he just doesn’t know how he feels. “..Different, I suppose. The way things work are just different then on land, like, I don’t have to worry about my hair and the scenery is just – immaculate.” He’s supposed he’s biased, having a deep love for his underwater kingdom. He can’t help it. “I don’t know how to explain, I think unfortunately it’s more of ‘you have to experience it’ type of place.”

Jia hung off of every word, having never travelled outside of Chia since this year. The thought of an entire world underneath her own was incredible to her, and she wanted to know more, but she understood why he couldn’t explain it; how do you explain the feeling of something that wonderful? It’s impossible. “Well, it sounds wonderful,” she said with a small nod. “Sorry, it’s probably strange having someone ask for details about your life when we’ve only just met.”

Azalea looked up, panic slightly filling her face. Perhaps, if the other woman were to go telling people that the freaky daughter of Dr. Houghton carried around a jaguar in her bag, her mother would surely send Proxima away. Her papa could try to plead her case, but what good would that be against mother’s word? “No! Not at all!” she assured her nervously, “She won’t bite, I promise. She’s very well trained and very friendly…”

“I...” she started, still processing. It wasn’t every day that one sees a jungle cat casually sitting next to a girl on a college campus. “W-... Why? Why is it... sorry, she there? Or here? Doesn’t she belong in the wild?” Jia couldn’t even process if she was being rude or not, she was too busy trying to rationalize all of this.

Amelise shakes her head at the girl, staring up mournfully. ‘Oh no quite the opposite.’ She tells her, looking around them once before continuing. ‘In fact, the boy on my brain is absolutely perfect.’ The princess sighs, fighting the smile playing at her face. ‘It’s just - have you ever thought about someone so much that you can’t get anything else done?’ She bites her lip as she awaits an answer - perhaps she’s not the only one lost in her own head.

Jia couldn’t help but have a flash of a certain face in her head at the word ‘perfect,’ but she did her best to focus on this conversation; this wasn’t about her. But then, the question was about her, so she bit her lip and smiled with a nod. “Yes, I have,” she agreed. “I understand why you fell now.” A little joke popped into her head and she couldn’t help herself. “Looks like you’ve literally fallen for him.”

He peeks up just in time to see her beaming at him, causing his heart to flutter. How could she do this to him? And so quickly? It was amazing and a bit frightening all at the same time. ‘If we could work it out I’d love to have you in my story, Jia.’ Of course it was a big if - if only Harlow had the means to think for himself, to do for himself. But he wouldn’t think of logistics now. He wanted to be in the moment with her, worry free.

He listens with rapt attention as she tells him about herself, somehow getting the feeling that she’s sharing to him more than she usually would. It makes him happy to think that she’s confiding in him the way that she is. Shaking his head as she finishes he rushes to reassure her. ‘No I don’t think you are oversharing at all - I mean if anyone gets it I do. And trust me your situation is no less difficult than my own.’ He sighs, reaching out to touch her hand gently, wanting to hold on for all its worth. ‘And for whatever it’s worth…. I think it’s brave to be the one who is different in your family.’ He grins, trying to bring light into the conversation, ‘Besides I love baby pink.’

When he touches her hand, all she feels is electricity, and she can’t help but look down at it. She took a deep breath, building up all of her courage to reach out and place her hand in his fully. It was warm, and for now, she was happy she did it. That is, she was happy until and unless he pulled away; then she wouldn’t be able to handle the embarrassment or the rejection.

His words basically melt her heart, then causes it to reform and pick up speed. She had always dreamed of finding love at first sight while she was here, but she thought it was just that, a dream. And yet not only had she seemed to find it, but he seemed to want the same thing, appeared to be on the same page. “Harlow, I know we haven’t know each other long, but...” she started, feeling her cheeks already start to heat up. “...I just want to say I think you’re wonderful, and I’m really glad I met you and I’m having a lot of fun getting to know you.”

“Oh thank you, you don’t have to do that” she said as she saw her running towards her. As they finished up she said “Hi I’m Rapunzel and you are” struggling to put her hand out for a hand shake 

  “It’s no trouble, truly,” she assured her, handing the woman her items with a smile. Jia took her hand and shook it with a small bow of her head. “My name is Jia, of the Li family,” she introduced, hoping she was making a good impression on the woman for her family’s sake; Rapunzel was probably a teacher, and perhaps royalty.

“Depends on the day. Some days i’m with my fellow mer-people and other days i’m with my humans.” He can’t help but laugh a little, it’s sounds a little stupid the way he’s worded it. Yet it’s the only way he can explain it. He does spend more time on land, seeing as he grew up mostly out of the water. He does have his days where he’d rather swim around and forget his problems. .  “I’m Finley, it’s a pleasure to meet you Jia!” He smiles friendly at her. 

“Fascinating,” she said. The word would have sounded sarcastic coming from someone else, but Jia truly meant it. “Lovely to meet you too! Can... Can I ask what it’s like underwater? I’ve been swimming, of course, but... well, I’m human, I can only go so deep in the water.”

“Oops sorry that must have been me, I’m a klutz especially when i’m carrying a lot of things in my hands at once and can’t seem to see where i’m going therefore tripping over a rock” she said as she grabs all of the stuff she dropped

“Oh, let me help!” Jia said, quickly running over to pick up a few things. Jia didn’t know that she was the mother of her crush, she just knew that there was a woman who needed some help.

Finley nods his head, quite surprised she’s never thought they were real. “Yep. I grow a tail in water, but the enchantment here prevents that from happening.” His tone is a little bitter, he misses his tail a lot. “No no, don’t worry. No offense taken here!” He reassures her, he’s been compared to much worse in his lifetime. 

“That’s amazing,” she sighed, shaking her head in slight disbelief. “So are you... I mean, are you in the water all the time at home? Or do you switch between worlds often?” She couldn’t help but ask questions; it wasn’t every day someone got a chance to talk to a mermaid. Then, she realized how rude she was being. She hadn’t even asked him his name yet! “Oh, I’m sorry, my name is Jia. What’s yours?”

Well, she couldn’t argue with that. She hadn’t been at rehearsals, because she wasn’t in any of the plays. For good reason. If she was, that probably would’ve just made everyone miserable. Including her.

“Relax, darling, I’m going to,” she replied dismissively. “Just as soon as I’m done with it. I’m just trying it on for a second, it’s not like I’m planning on keeping it.”

Jia didn’t like this girl. Being called darling like that just made Jia feel uneasy; it was condescending. “You look like you’ve had enough time with it,” she said, her eyebrows furrowing. “It’s not yours, please put it back.” She wasn’t raising her voice, but there was a new quiet conviction in it.

“Heavens no!” Azalea corrected with shock as she placed the baby Proxima from her lap onto the seat next to her, “She’s a black jaguar,” she playfully educated, “We found her on the Amazon. Puma’s would be a bit more north than that.” She nodded. “Her name is Proxima! Would you like to pet her? Just don’t tell Dr. Houghton you saw her…”

“Oh,” she said, even more confused as to why that kind of difference mattered when it was still a baby jungle cat. “But... it’s... isn’t that dangerous?” she asked, the shock of seeing that animal and the other woman’s reaction to it causing her brain to not form fully coherent sentences.

Amelise takes the hand gratefully, nodding with laughter as she stands up. Letting go of the girl she moves to brush herself off, shaking her head and embarrassed. ‘I’m a clutz.’ She admits to the other girl, a tragic sigh following shortly afterwards. ‘In truth I was distracted.’ Biting her lip she glances down at her feet muttering mostly to herself. ‘Stupid Boys.’ 

“Oh that’s okay,” she assured the other girl. She recognized her from a couple of her classes, but couldn’t place a name to the face. It started with an “A” maybe? Jia was going to ask what the distraction was before she continued and explained it in pretty simple terms. ‘Boy troubles?” she asked, curious even though she couldn’t really relate; her first boy experience was currently going better than she could have ever hoped.

Her calling him a gentleman went straight to his head, he couldn’t deny it. Everything about her seemed to call to him, to draw him in and leave him waiting no matter how much he got. The compliments rolling from her lips were like air to him and he breathed it in, smiling at the thought of how she saw him. 

He wants to stop himself from saying what he does next as he’s not sure how she’ll react but in the end he can’t help it. ‘Maybe we’ll be in each other’s stories in the end.’ He mummers, afraid to look at her and instead looking down at his hands. 

Gathering his courage after a moment he finally looks back up, flushed and feeling foolish. ‘Tell me about you - what was your home like? Whose the girl behind the face?’

Her heart soared, him speaking the words she felt deep within her but was afraid to express. She bit her lip, trying to keep her smile from getting too big, but failing miserably. “I’d love to have you in my story, Harlow,” she said, forcing herself to meet his eyes instead of hiding so he would know she meant it. “If you’d want me in yours...”

“Well, I’m from northern China, I’m the youngest daughter of a general and... well, the savior of China,” she said, a slight sadness in her eyes behind her smile. “So I understand what you mean with the expectations on you.” She then turned to him and shook her head. “Not that it’s comparable, I’m not a princess who has to do things for my country like... marry someone I don’t love...” Why did the thought of him marrying someone from duty and not from love hurt her so badly? They had just met, she needed to get a hold of herself. “...my situation is completely different, I just...” She looked down at her pink jeans and white and pink heels, clicking them absentmindedly as she continued. “I’m the worst at martial arts in my family, and... I’m the most feminine? I suppose is how I would put it, but... I feel like I’m letting my family down by not being all... girl-boss, I guess is a good word for it.” Now, it was her turn to blush, looking back down at her shoes. “Sorry, that was... that was probably an overshare, wasn’t it? I should have just stuck to my favorite color is baby pink.”
