The Law is On Your Side

Dan walked into work and was immediately handed a file. Great. The new guy got another charmer. He had quickly made a name for himself for being able to handle unruly people on the streets, so when he was promoted they decided he should keep the same clientele.
He read over the file, with the statements from the shop owner as well as from the person they had deemed guilty and neither seemed to match up. The girl waiting in the room had been defiant since she got there, and apparently long before when her friend had been arrested.
He walked into the room and sat down across from the girl, handing her a bottle of water and a granola bar. “Hi. I’m detective Stark. I just wanted to ask you some questions about what happened today. You’re not a suspect, I’m just looking for a little insight. What can you tell me?”
Lia wished she had gum so she could look more like a petulant badass but all she had was her red hair and an attitude. A new face came into the room with her and she rolled her eyes- she didn't know why they felt new meat was going to change anything. She took the water but left the bar- it had no sugar content and THAT was the criminal here. "I know I'm not a suspect because I'm not arrested." She pointed out- her wrists free of cuffs "and I can't tell you anything. Write that down because no one is listening to me when I say it." She got up and walked past him to try peer through the black glass of the interruption mirror "is there anyone back there?"
