KaBoom! at the Pierce County Library System

This playground is made up of lightweight, oversized, mobile foam blocks and is meant to encourage and empower balanced and active play for children while building gross motor skills. The first children to play with the Imagination Playground were from two Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) classes from Franklin Pierce Schools who come in monthly for block play. They had a blast playing with, creating and knocking down structures.

PCLS was the only public library to receive a KaBoom! playground.

Longview Public Library had a great visit with best-selling author Maggie Stiefvater on April 20, 2017. She led a creativity workshop for a group of middle and high school students and gave a fabulous talk later that evening in the Reading Room.

Longview Public Library had a “Messy Art Day” They covered the floors of the auditorium with paper (and the walls with plastic), put out lots of paints and tools, and invited babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their adults to come get creative and messy. I’d say they were successful!

Gilbert Elementary School in Yakima WA hosted a Library night with the theme of “A Trip to the Forrest.” . Eighty-Five students and seventy adults, plus numerous staff, attended to hear two scientists – a Forest Ecologist and a Wildlife Biologist – explain types of forests in Eastern Washington, and how forest fires are now understood to be a positive natural occurrence.
