“i could do that,” aaron said, “sure, but i could also just ignore her.” he glanced over at his phone on the couch cushion, then looked back at bentley. “i like to ignore problems until they go away,” he said. a smug grin appeared on his pink lips, and he crossed his arms against his chest. “she did have a hot friend, though,” he thought aloud, teetering his head from side to side. “i could keep her around and try to get close to her friend. i don’t know, man,” he sighed. “don’t even know if it’s worth it.” aaron didn’t like to try hard to get what he wanted; he preferred for things he wanted to land directly in his lap—especially when it came to women. “dude, what if i tell her we should go on a double date or some shit? me and her with you and her friend,” he said, pointing between their bodies. “it’d get me in the same room as her friend. it’d be like a double date gone horribly fuckin’ wrong, ‘cause we’d end up switching girls by the end of the night. say yes,” he urged. “i’ll owe you big time.”
“whatever you wanna do,” the male told his friend, shrugging his shoulders. he couldn’t force him to do anything, no matter what he thought was the correct decision, but he still thought that he would’ve been better off telling the girl how he felt before she started taking things more seriously. “how’s that work for you?” he certainly couldn’t do that, not because it would’ve meant leading someone on, but because it sounded extremely stressful. he wouldn’t have wanted to do that to himself. he couldn’t. “wow,” he replied, drawing the word out, knowing exactly where the conversation was going before they got there, and not liking the sound of what he was thinking. “you’re really gonna stick me with the clingy one?” the male replied, knitting his brow. he wasn’t opposed to helping a friend, but he also didn’t want to get tangled up with the girl he was describing.

“i can’t wait.” he smiled, hoping it’d be sooner than he expected because not only did he want to spend time with her and see her reaction to the music, he’d sneakily gave her a record he listened to whenever she was on his mind. so he knew it was special and her reaction? well, he’d have to be there for it no matter what. stephen contemplated what to do for a little bit before turning back to face liberty. “well, are you hungry? we could get food to go and start our listening party while we eat, maybe?”
food and the listening party sounded like the best option; she hadn’t wanted to wait long to listen to everything anyway, and she was already pretty hungry. it worked out. "i like the way you think. music’s better on a full stomach anyway,” she told him with a nod. everything was better on a full stomach in her opinion. “shall we then?” she asked, gesturing in the direction of the restaurant she was telling him about.
chcrrywines:
“that’s actually a better idea. just say when and i’ll come over and we can have a listening party of all four records, how about that?” stephen took up any opportunity to get to hang out with liberty more and he was a little excited when this one presented itself. it wasn’t like they didn’t already hang out enough but the thought of seeing the blonde always put him in a good mood, he couldn’t help it. “yeah but i wanted to do it.” he shrugged, heading to the front of the store where the front door was and glancing back at liberty. “i’ve basically given you no choice.” he pushed the door open, holding it for liberty to pass through and smiled as soon as they were outside. “the weather’s pretty good today. what do you wanna do now? we’ve got some time to kill before harper gets out, don’t we?”
“that sounds perfect.” she wasn’t sure when that was going to happen, but she hoped it would happen soon. it sounded like fun, plus she liked watching stephen listen to music; it was like watching herself cook, or watching an artist paint. “alright. well, thank you,” she replied, shrugging her shoulders. she thanked him again as she passed through the door and out onto the sidewalk. she checked the time on her phone when he asked her what she wanted to do. she didn’t want to go anywhere far, knowing that she would need to go grab harper at three, but she still wanted to do something with him. "a few hours, yeah. do you wanna go get something to eat?” she asked, turning towards him. “there’s a really good burger joint about two blocks that way,” she told him, gesturing west. “or we could get a head start on our listening party.”
chcrrywines:
“well, if you like them then i’m pretty sure i’ll end up liking them too.” he smiled and grabbed all four records in his hand, holding them for the time being and searching through another pile nearby. “you’ll like them, i mean i hope so. you’ll have to live text me through your listening party because i wanna know every single thought that goes through your head while listening to those songs. now that i think about it, that statement sounded creepy but hey, you know what i mean.” he chuckled, looking around once more and realizing he didn’t really need anything else. “let’s check out.” he said as he made his way to the cashier with the four records in hand, already knowing what their total was and quickly taking out his wallet to pay it. he turned around to face liberty with a grin, handing her a bag with her records. “here. it’s on me since i’m practically forcing you to listen to these.”
"it’s not creepy at all. it’s actually really nice to know that my opinions matter to you... why don’t you listen with me?” it would probably be much easier to communicate that way; she could react in the moment, and he would know exactly which part of the song she was referring to. that, and she would’ve liked to spend that extra time with him. she followed him up to the checkout line, and as she was searching her purse for her end of the price the cashier named, she noticed him paying for all four records. she quickly zipped the bag, not wanting the cashier to think that she was caught off guard (though it probably didn’t matter to the cashier whether or not she was aware that stephen would be paying for her). “you didn’t have to do that.” she considered reaching into her purse to reimburse him, but realized it would probably be easier to pick up the tab elsewhere: pay for a meal or something. “but thanks. now i really have to listen to these.”

the moment that andrew realized that the person was a bouncer, the white letters on his shirt practically glowing under the uv lights, he instantly felt his body stiffen up. at the man’s words, however, a relieved sigh fell from his lips. it was just some psycho chick that he’d blown off a couple of times, obviously trying to get him kicked out of the club for whatever reason, and andrew wasn’t having it. “she’s fucking crazy,” the man went on to explain, even motioning with his finger in a circle around his temple. he only hoped that the other would believe him and not her. “i haven’t done shit to that girl. she’s just saying that to get me thrown out of here. i think you know what i mean.”
the loud music and the thrashing of bodies was more than enough to remind bentley why he worked outside. the club he worked for was much different from the clubs he attended, in that they were rarely full of ‘nobodies’ and the bass wasn’t loud enough to alter his heartbeat. he listened as the male explained himself, nodding once he got his side. he wasn’t sure if there was any truth to it, but then again, he wasn’t sure if the girl had been telling the truth either. “like i said, this is your warning. i don’t wanna have to kick you out, so if she bothers you again, come up front and tell someone.” he’d told the girl the same thing a few minutes ago, so he figured he would find out the truth based on who showed up first.

before donovan could reach for his notebook, the other male was already bending down and handing it back to him. he couldn’t even bother to utter a thanking, and the man was about to turn on the soles of heavy boots before he was being spoken to again. biting his tongue to keep from snapping, donovan faced back towards the person with a dreadful sigh. “that is my pet, and he likes the sun.” he felt the need to add in the second part, just in case the other decided to ask more questions about why. it was new york city. the strangest thing on the sidewalk couldn’t have been him taking his pet snake out for some fresh air. that was almost normal for this place.
bentley found the statement rather odd; he didn’t know many people who owned snakes to begin with, let alone snakes that needed to be taken out of the apartment for sun. still, he was glad it was a corn snake as opposed to something bigger and more dangerous like a boa or a python. not only would that have scared the hell out of him, but it might’ve choked the other guy if it was startled enough. “my mistake,” the male replied, hands up, a hint of sarcasm in his tone. “i didn’t realize snakes needed sun like that. thought lights were enough,” he said, as if the stranger would care what he thought. “but it’s cool anyway. kinda weird, but i can’t knock you for taking care of your pet.”
